Just bought a Wii U. Surprisingly, there were no shortages.

Had a WiiU earlier this year, gave it to my little cousin. I thought i'd be okay because i'm part of the PC master race anyways (stalker/misery 2.0 is all I need). But just yesterday I bought myself another WiiU (the Windwaker edition), ZombieU and will buy Pikim 3 and Mario3d world next week. Although my PC serves me well, i just like Nintendo games.

I do have one question for all you peeps out there though. Why hasn't there even been an attempt to get "the incredible machine" game on either the Wii or WiiU? I strongly believe that game would do awesome numbers and it fits perfectly with both control schemes (gamepad and wiimote).

Hmmmm. Wii Motion+ works for WiiU right? I have a Wii so I guess if I buy a Wii U I am already set for at least two people play right?

I am seriously eyeing ZombieU--the game seems absolutely dreadful in all the right ways, hahaha (I love scary games), and SM3DW...

Pikmin 3? Hmm, haven't played any of the Pikmin games so I am not sure. Wonderful 101 looks great though, and it seems everyone and their grandma loves it to bits here in GAF.

................ hmmmmmmmmm.

....most probably at the end of this month, or next month at the latest... I guess I will be joining you guys.

ZombiU is an awesome game, very tense, always wondering what's around the corner.

I Hadn't played a pikmin game before Pikmn 3 either and I love Pikmin 3 it's one of my favorites I keep coming back to it especially with the dlc, It gets a little addictive trying to get a better score or the next medal.

W101 is a great game plenty of action, not sure it's for everyone though. There's a demo on the eShop you can try out, but the demo doesn't do a good job of showcasing the game and might make it seem a bit frustrating to you, but the game is absolutely fantastic I love it.

I really need an Animal Crossing, Luigi's Mansion of F-Zero for this consoles to be complete.

Thinking of getting Pikmin 3. Haven't played a Pikmin game before though.

I think Animal Crossing comes next year when they close the AC plaza. I wouldn't mind seeing a new Luigi's Mansion here could be very fun. And yes we absolutely need another F-Zero.

Like I said in my reply to LB I had never played a Pikmin game before either and I've enjoyed Pikmin 3 very much.

Yep the Pikmin series is awesome.

I wasn't thrill about W101 at 1st either (heard the demo isn't that good) but once you get into it everything gels and it becomes an unique fun game with great production values. It is well worth it and it is very long for the type of the game that it is.

I've been wondering this for a long time. I'm not sure if anyone owns that series anymore.

Welcome to the PC/WiiU club! It's the best club around.
PS4/WiiU, Xbone/WiiU are still solid combos though!

A lot of new Wii U owners post here, and I like that. I wish new Vita owners would keep to one thread instead of making a new one for each purchase lol. This thread also seems to be a good place to talk about Wii U things all around.

Holidays I'm sure I'll be getting The Wonderful 101 and Sonic Lost World as presents.

The flier shows it as a "price drop" and not a sale. Confusing.

Got the GameStop email for this week. They have it relisted as a price drop.

In last weeks ad it was a sale. Ergo the confusion.

Let us know GAF what the current eshop price for Monster Hunter is!!

Pickin up Wind Waker HDizzles and a Pro C on Friday. Looking forward to romping through it again. I haven't played it in about ten years or more so the the majority of the details of the game are fuzzy to me for the most part.

Highly, highly excited to take assloads of selfies and environment pics and upload them to Miiverse.

got a wii u last week too :)

only have two gripes so far:
1. no support for the gamepad as actual game controller in wii mode.
2. no surround sound (setup: wii u - hdmi - tv - optical out - sound system).

guess there is no workaround for both ;(

There's a lot of great ideas or games that would be a great fit for the Wii U that aren't made. Like Dungeons & Dragons (local MP with the Dungeon Master on the GamePad), Mario Paint, RTS games, a 3D Breakout game with the GamePad acting as the paddle,...

already saw that thread. buying an av receiver to get surround sound (only for the u) is a joke.
I don't know what you need or if that helps but an update added the possibility to get sound via composite/component cables while sending video through hdmi.

Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate WiiU did indeed get a price drop in its retail disc form.

MH3U WiiU was retailing for $59.99, but has permanently price dropped down to $39.99 (at least for Gamestop stores). I talked to a few Gamestop store managers, to make sure that the pricing in the ad was correct. It is currently 'on sale for $19.99', so its reduced from $39 to $19 for this ad duration. Stock was very limited here in the nearby bay area stores.

I am looking at the WiiU eshop channel (as of Dec 11th) and a download copy of MH3U is still listed for $59.99, for those interested. Cheaper to go with the retail disc copy for now.

ya just read that - but i´m a bit confused what works where:
if i buy old wii component cables i can plug those directly into my audio amp and get surround sound in both wii u and wii mode?
some posts are talking about zombi u .. some posts say only wii mode. :-/

[edit]
guess not after some more reading - but i would appreciate it if someone can still clarify it.

I feel that this will never happen. Not because of needing to tweak the Wii games, but because it'll be one less bullet point for VC games and potential HD remasters. Then again, it'll be another bullet point for the console itself. "No need to rebuy your old Wii games. You can still use the new Wii U GamePad to play them"

If they were to add button support, it would be in the form of an emulated classic controller anyway and there would be no reprogramming of any games required since it would obviously still require Wiimote for Wiimote-only games.

Man I want WWHD too son. Ugh! Zelda fever.

I'm getting a bluetooth dongle and wiimote+ and nunchuk on friday so I can play through skyward sword on my dolphin. I need dem glorious HD tex.

Ok, I bought a PS4 and Xbox one. Picked up around 8 games for them and I am bored of them. I am going through a phase where I'm just bored of multiplayer games, which is what the majority of launch titles are for those consoles.

So I ordered a Wii u with wind waker, I got Super Mario 3d, super mario bros, monster hunter, pikmin and zombie u. Any other suggestions?

Also I fancy playing SMG, do I need a wii remote?

Yes and also a nunchuck.

Which games did you get for PS4, XB1?

Ryse, DR 3 and Forza for Xbox one. AC black flag, Killzone, BF 4, Ghosts and Lego Marvel Super Heroes for PS4. And the two games I played the most were Killer Instinct and Resogun.

Nintendo is basically last chance saloon for me. Maybe I'm just getting bored of gaming. But I have to say both consoles were underwhelming.

Toki Tori 2 from the eShop. Yeah, I know it may seem strange seeing me recommending this game
XD
but it's in my opinion one of the best ever made. A puzzle-adventure and not an easy one if you go for 100% completion.

In Amazon uk they are running a christmas deal for the wii u premium with the nintendoland bundle, for those who are interested.

The best way to play Pikmin3 is with the Wiimote+nunchuck, AND the gamepad (on your lap or in the stand). You can still use the gamepad as a map that way, and use it to navigate other groups around the map, while you're focussing on another group.

If money is a concern, get zombi U because it's A/ great and B/ cheap. I would also suggest Pikmin 3, because it's an adventurous RTS game, lighthearted, but rather competitive in the mission modes.

Thanks for the reply, I am still considering what to do! Reading reviews, asking friends that have the system etc

The 227 pound one? Not that cheap imo. Amazon.de is 15 euro cheaper.

I'm annoyed they still don't have a 3D World bundle. I don't like the New Mario games and I already have WW.

Online multiplayer? Or couch multiplayer?

After some "confusion" with my launch PS4 pre-order which left me with 3 PS4 games and no PS4 to play them on (at least until early 2014)

Even though It could of gotten ugly I guess I was just having a good day... they offered me a discount so I took it as an opportunity to grab a Wii U premium and a few games for it.

I really didn't know where to start since the last time I owned anything by Nintendo was the 64 so I played it safe and went the Mario route, but i will definitely check out some of the game suggestions in this thread.

Been having a great time with it too, very fun.

There's not going to be a 3D World bundle, it's their killer app of the year.

There is, but it's the £299.99 Mega Mario bundle with NSMBU, NSLU, SM3DW, the Mario themed Wii Remote and a Mario hat. It's good value but if you just wanted 3DW then paying extra for the unwanted stuff can be annoying (sure you can sell the NSMBU/NSLU, hat and remote but you're not guaranteed a buyer).

That plus I think it's UK exclusive.

She bought me the bundle with NSMBU + NSLU, then I got Super Mario 3D World, Nintendo Land, a couple of Wiimotes and the Pro Controller. Not sure about buying the extended battery for the gamepad right away.

Anyway, everything is stuffed in the same bag under our little christmas tree (that is literally smaller than the WiiU box itself).

Always loved Nintendo, but wasn't sure about the WiiU: luckily my GF decided for me :D

For the wait, I've got Etrian Odissey 4 to finish so I think I'm covered.
