Just bought a Wii U. Surprisingly, there were no shortages.

Press the red button on the WiiU (the one with "sync" over it if I remember correctly)

wait a second, a text will appear that says that you have to press the red button on the controller (on the back side).

Wait again.

And it is ready to go.

Thank you.

Man, Rayman Legends is FUN in co-op and we're only 3 levels in!!!

I used the GamePad though - can't wait to try out my Pro controller myself.

I do hope X will have more variety. I stopped playing Xenoblade after fifteen hours or so because it's basically only combat. And while it's real-time, menu driven combat is still dull, especially if you have to do more or less the same sequence all the time.

Xenoblade not having enough variety...

Xenoblade not having enough variety...

Right... even though 15 hours should normally be a fair shot for any game, in the case of Xenoblade he probably didn't see enough to see the variety of it. Different characters, forging, links and stuff like that. But I must say it wasn't a problem for me. I had like three major pauses during the game (each lasted several weeks or even months) but at all times I knew I was going to finish it - and I did.

By the way - Monster Hunter 3U. Every week I see a steady increase of players online, I really hope this trend continues.

I really can't decide if I should get Pikmin 3 or Wind Waker HD as my next game.

I still don't have a Nintendo game for my Wii U besides the Wii_line (Wii Sports, Wii Party U, Nintendoland).

I had the Collector's Edition of Wind Waker for Gamecube but I got bored of it 2 hours into it, but I were younger at the time and has since loved Ocarina of Time 3D. Besides, I have Rayman Legends and soon Mario 3D World for my co-op games, so Wind Waker HD would be a nice meaty single player adventure.

But I have always wanted to play Pikmin and never got around to it on Gamecube or the Wii, and finally Pikmin 3 is here, and it'll let me use my new Wii Motion Plus and Nunchuck.

Ooh, there's a question. Does the Wii U have the 3DS's incredible data tracking app? The one that tells you how much you've played and when? I bloody love that thing.

I was so ashamed to learn that I put 160 hours of time into Pokemon X in two weeks. Really brought home my current unemployment situation.

As for the gamepad, that's exactly how I felt from what I've used of it, and that's pretty much the reason it hasn't caught on as some must-have feature, I believe.
It does, very similar to 3DS, on Wii U it's called "Daily log".
It kee[s track of activity for each one of the profiles (users) on the console.

Although it does have one, it is not as detailed as the 3ds one.

alrighty. can someone clarify this for me please. I already got the wii u, pandoras tower, last story and xenoblade.

now, do I need a classic controller or a wii u pro, or that nunchuck (which I don't want).

thanks guys

It's not as in-depth as the 3DS version, but it does tell you how long you play a game each day, how long total as well as monthly and yearly totals.

Wii U Pro-Controller is not usable in Wii-mode. You want a Classic Controller Pro (and a Wiimote to connect it to)

Is this like, the official Wii U thread or what?

No, you don't need a Nunchuck to use a Classic Controller. And the WiiU-Gamepad has a Sensor-Bar built in.

ok. so what I need to buy today is the classic controller for 19.99, plug that into the wii u's gamepad.

I do NOT need the wii u pro controller then. just the basic classic.

ok. if this is all I need to play these jrpgs, thanks a lot guys. very appreciative.

I was so confused yesterday at gamestop that the associates had no clue...

You need that controller and a wii remote to plug it into. You can't plug it into the gamepad.

No, you still need a Wiimote to plug the Classic Controller in. But not a Nunchuck. The Wiimote and the Nunchuck are two separate things.

ok. so I DO need the nunchuck thing and that sensor as well.

oh wow. i thought this would be simpler.

Depends how you're going to play, the gamepad can serve as the TV screen and sensor bar. I'm pretty sure Xenoblade can be played entirely with the Wii Remote and CC.

But don't Wii Us come with a sensor bar anyway?

so confusing. sorry about being so confused. today is the last day gamestop has that sale that is why i'm frantically asking.

Aah, so that's where you plug the classic controller into.
I thought I just waste my money away by buying wiimote plus before I know that classic controller even exist

wait. you mean I need that small nunchuck thing ?

I think you're confusing things here, this is what your set up should be:

(Wii Remote on the left, Classic Controller on the right)

WiiMote (Waggle) has a plug that supports ---
nunchuck
wii classic controller / pro

It's all about backwards compatibility with Nintendo and they really confused everyone and shot themselves in the foot trying to get all the Wii audience to Upgrade.

The Wii U PRO Controller stands alone.

What is the difference between them actually?

Wiimotes recognize motion and where you're pointing at the screen, they made Motion Plus as a separate accessory to recognize distance you are away from the sensor bar.

Now they've built the whole thing into the Wiimotes.

No you don't need the seperate Motion + module. It adds to the accuracy of the Wiimote controller.

I'm sorry man, but I'm still confused to what you said...

But, at least now I know what my mission to purchase.

wii classic and a wii mote plus.

Seriously, it must be more than 100 times that I see this trailer and I'm still amazed by how great and fun it looks.

Here's a GIF I just made. (26Mb but worth it.)

I think I need to beat Xenoblade, just another time, before this year ends. :P

holy shit. what is this game ?

It's really not that confusing. What is confusing was that you seem to have been under the impresison that a Wii Remote was instead called a Nunchuk which makes no sense.

This is a Wii Remote (Plus, to be specific):

This is a Nunchuk:

You plug the Classic Controller Pro into a Wii Remote and that is all. You do not need a Nunchuk for any of these three games you mentioned. Although I personally prefer the Wii Remote+Nunchuk control method for Pandora's Tower since the motion control implementation is actually quite clever in that game.

Nunchucks are what, $10 now? You'll need one eventually if you ever want to play Galaxy.

gamestop is selling these for 19.99. I just plug and play this on my wii u and I can play em right ?

Oh god, I'm dying here.

What is the difference between them actually?

The obvious thing: The Wii Remote is that thing that launched in 2006 without. The Wii Remote Plas has the Wii Motion Plus add-on that came with Wii Sports Resort in 2009 built right into it, adding a gyro-sensor for increased accuracy which is required for various games. The Wii Remote Plus is the future proof version anybody looking into getting Remotes should be buying these days.

holy shit. what is this game ?

Untitled new game by Monolithsoft. I'm shocked you don't know since you already picked up Xenoblade. One might thing the gifs would've been hard to miss :)

A useful thread to read up on what we think we know about the game:
Monolithsoft WiiU trailer - X (Takahashi x Tanaka x Sawano, Xenoblade x/multiplayer?)

X looks so good. I really hope they balance the game a bit better than Xenoblade. The easy overlevelling bothered me a lot.
And give me more control over the battle system please!

The Trine 2 tests for framerate, bloom lighting, and a couple of other graphical issues were initially bagged by DF until Frozenbyte corrected them. Eurogamer made the corrections in an update. DF may be around for a while, but they're not infallible to mistakes.

The other GAFers were in both OTs for AC4, which were quickly dismissed after DF made their claims.

I'm not saying they have some kind of agenda out here, but they have made mistakes before and shouldn't be taken as some kind of incontestable gospel. Experience it for yourself and make your own decision. You still didn't answer if you played it or not.

Hmm, I really doubt that DF did wrong framerate tests for Trine 2. Their face-off does not include anything in that regard.
I completely agree that their word should not be taken as gospel, but their measuring methods are solid. And sorry, I simply don't trust opinions of random gaffers on framerate. Those have been incorrect many times now and not even just about framerate. E.g. I still haven't seen any proof how AC4 looks better on Wii U compared to PS360.

Nope, I did not play it but I would like to try it now to see for myself. But I have a gaming PC so the chances are very low I'd get the game on Wii U.

what can I say? nothing really.

always been a playstation and PC gamer.

To be clear: The Wii launched with a wiimote (the tv remote looking controller) and a nunchuck (the expansion with the analog stick on it). They released the Classic controller which could be used in certain wii games (like a regular controller) but it was primarily used for virtual console games (games of NES, SNES, N64 etc). This controller, together with its successor (classic pro) needs to be plugged in to the Wiimote.

After a couple of years, Nintendo released a Wiimotion+ addon (a short device you could plug into the wiimote, for extra accuracy). You could buy this seperately to plug into your "old" wiimotes. Obviously, the new wiimotes came with this module built in.

For WiiU, Nintendo released the pro controller, which can only be used for Wii U games and doesn't need to be plugged into anything to work.

Your new lord and master.

Come on man, Bobby Chalkers made some superior gifs in the X topic. These gifs don't do the game justice.

When they said to an interview that they want to create a game like the scope of skyrim now we know there not joking, this is fucking more epic. who says japanese developers are dead. this is more next gen game than anything else ive see in the other consoles.

And it's crazy what a difference some actual atmosphere makes. Even the bits with the dude just running around look cool as hell in X.
