Social status. Women won't date him because they don't want to get looked down on by others. Women won't marry him because their parents won't approve of it.

ofc. But being a butcher is legit. Particularly if you open your own shop. Or a couple local shops!

I have much reverence for the butcher i go to.

Without butchers, plumbers, janitors, garbage men, society would be shit, literally. They should be kings.

I hope Taeyeon marries one of those.

2 of those are skilled labor. 2 aren't. No offence meant, but being a butcher actually takes a fair bit of time to learn properly.

They should be respected, yes. But they aren't really. Any of those jobs are especially looked down on in Korea and it's a pretty big issue IMO. No one wants to do them, everyone wants to graduate university and get a job with the same top companies.

People in Korea often say that the issue with Korea is that as a child if you see a cleaner on the street your mother will say "See that, that's what you'll become if you don't study hard". While in some other countries the mother would say "It's because of them that we can live in such a clean and nice environment."

Pretty much any job that involves manual labour is seen as being for a lower class of people.

Yea I've seen all youtube episodes. Some of them are indeed pretty sad/depressing. But they did one episode where they looked back on some people and a few of them have changed/improved a lot. The latest guy with the weird ear really changed a lot. Last episode was kinda soul crushing with the
super shy girl who was in her room for 3 years, and scared to interact with people. It was nice to see how much she changed in the span of like 20 minutes.

It's a nice mix of serious and funny stuff happening. Always look forward to the next episode. Think TVXQ will be on next week. (youtube is 2 weeks behind I believe)
Will like to see more episode to see what happened to some of the people that were there in past episodes, I think it will be even more interesting.

I understand that, but I thought it was something from the past, If someone looked down on you because of the social status of your boyfriend/girlfriend is clearly not worth your time imo, but maybe you are talking about coworkers, etc. And parents not approving your boyfriend/girlfriend feel like something really old to me, like Romeo and Giulietta, lol. It seems to me that from what I saw sometimes some people marry more for the fact that they seems forced to marry or for convenience more than for love. The second guy stayed with that girl for 8 years and when they asked her if she will still be his girlfriend if he only owned 1 restaurant, she said that she wasn't sure. How can you stay with someone that doesn't love you and doesn't do much to make you happy, and marry her, passing all of your life with her, to me it seems that some girls/guys feel forced to marry.
or maybe he loved her so much that it doesn't matter to him, but it doesn't seem from the video, my opinion is obviously only based on from what I saw in that video, maybe outside of what they said in the episode they are a fantastic couple

Not in Korea it isn't.
But why? What's wrong with being a butcher?
EDIT: I'm slow, kinda already answered.

Yeah I already answered the butcher part but I think you'd be surprised at how old fashioned marriage is in Korea.

I'll take an example of my friend that just got married. Of course she had to get approval from both families for the marriage, and then her husband's mother visited a Fortune Teller. They told her that my friend's name was bad luck and if she were to let her son marry her then my friend had to at least change her name (Traditionally Korean fortune telling is about reading into the meanings of names). So she changed her name. It is also expected that the husband and his family pay for and prepare a house before the wedding and the bride and her family pay for and provide the furniture for the house. Which is exactly what happened in my friend's case.

If the parents had been against the marriage in the first place they would not have married. And if she had not changed her name the parents in law were going to oppose the marriage.

There are for more way people discriminate against you as far as marriage goes than just job. For example in order to go on blind dates for "arranged marriage" you have to fill out a form. Questions either add points or minus points from your overall. There is a question for women asking if they have lived in or spent an extended period of time in Australia. If they answer yes then it minuses points because they believe that women who live here are exposed to promiscuity and become more "loose". For men it's the Philippines.

It's always pretty interesting for a country where the majority have no religion, still have all the negative aspects associated with religion.

I don't think it's anything to do with religion. Their strict social structure stems from Confucianism.

That's my point. Even without religion people can adhere to nonsense.
Oh of course, yeah. There's also a rising number of Christians in Korea so even more nonsense. It was disturbing riding the train at night in Korea and seeing dozens of neon red church crosses every couple of hundred metres.

I remember a discussion in this thread that a surprising amount kpop idols are Christian. I don't mind either way though.

Yep, I don't but the religion statistics on Wikipedia since Korea has the church with the largest congregation in the world at over 1 million members in Seoul alone. Let alone the hundreds of other scattered around Seoul.

LOL.

As a Filipino, these idiots don't know what the hell they're talking about.

A lot of the women there have Catholicism or Islam ingrained in their heads, it's actually ridiculously hard to find sluts in the area.

Trust me, I've tried.

Apparently not that hard according to my friends who studied in Cebu. There's also a large amount of mail order brides from the Philippines and other South East Asian countries in rural farming areas of Korea.

Just with idiots and conservatives. It's mostly slut shaming women who have stayed here though, not against Australians themselves.

I guess it would have become worse after two Koreans were murdered up here in Brisbane recently though :/

They can force the government to do what they want, so I imagine that obviously they are really relevant. The problem for me, is not Christinan in general, I can understand them and I don't have a problem with them, the problem is some of the people that are running the church, some of the things that they say/teach is really incredible in a bad way (I've made a post here about that some months ago), it's not always the fault of the person itself if it was teached something completely wrong. If someone told you that water burns, you wouldn't touch that even if it's obviously not true.
weird comparison, I'm obviously talking about LGBT discrimination

Apparently not that hard according to my friends who studied in Cebu.

That's actually why lol. Cebu has somehow become a hotbed for foreigners in recent times... that said I wouldn't put the blame solely on the foreigners, they're just one of the many factors that influence the culture.

I know this sounds ridiculous, but just take a look at Filipino porn featuring those white dudes who can't get any pussy besides paying a Filipina who doesn't know any better. Almost all of those vids are filmed in Angeles City or Cebu... both with a huge foreign population. Those girls are not part of the local sex trade, otherwise they'd be in prison already, it's basically a casting couch with girls off the street.

They actually had a "film crew" come in to my city a couple of years ago, but my city is known for the Muslim radicals who kidnap random people off the streets... the US Embassy actually forced them out of the city because of a travel ban and no one wants to pay their ransom lol.

South Korean?

That seems highly unlikely and not what i've read on the topic.

Add the Philippines to that list.

I was hanging around Manila with some friends one night and we casually drove by the red light district and sure enough there was a lot of Korean women in the area.

The "bad" thing about them is that they're escorts, not prostitutes. You pay for the night, not just the sex. Apparently they've got a process where you take them out on a dinner date, then the club, then finally to the hotel IF you pass their criteria... basically if you spend a lot of money on them to the point that they think you're worth fucking then it's game, and yes you still pay for the sex at the end of the night. Otherwise if you fail the dinner or the club, you're not getting any.

One of my friends who I was with that night told me this and pretty much told me to stay away from them, hell stay away from any prostitute for that matter haha. Besides being a waste of time and money, the sex usually ain't good. Keywords: loose, soggy and STD's.

The worst thing about this? Some of the girls who participate in this aren't sex slaves... I'm pretty sure a ton of them are, but some of them are college students who can't get any jobs in the area due to a bunch of factors like language and racism, so some of them are pretty much forced to get in the industry if you will.

Yep, most Koreans go to study English in Cebu before moving onto countries like Australia. It's much cheaper to study there and you get 1 on 1 tutoring or at least much smaller class sizes apparently. From what I heard from Korean guys I know who went there, Korean men are really sought after by locals and they're pretty much treated like royalty by the women there. I don't doubt tourism is a huge cause of it. Pretty much the same story as a load of other South-East Asian countries. Sad really.

Yes, the majority of South Korean sex workers in Australia too are ones who migrated here voluntarily but then they end up in a situation where they can't find suitable work and are coerced into the industry, it's really fucked up. Just because they start doing the work voluntarily doesn't mean they aren't locked down by contracts and whatnot though, there's a lot of stuff going on behind the scenes.

I heard there was a bit of blow back from that. Wonder if that changed when it was revealed that one was murdered by another Korean national and not an Australian.

It was actually really interesting to read the Korean news reports on those murders.

Eunji Ban's case, where an Australian national murdered her. And then his where it was a Korean. In the former they definitely played up the racism and bad conditions Koreans face here on working holiday visas. Despite the fact that there was no racial motivation behind the attack. In the latter case most of the articles STILL focused on the Eunji Ban case and bad conditions Koreans face here, while briefly mentioning towards the end that the man arrested for the murder was Korean.

Really bad form, but "journalism" is a bit like that over there.

Lured, out of money or options, traffic, oh come on.

A translation:
To all my fans whom I love... First off, I'm sorry that I'm making things hard and painful. When I think about the confusion you all must have experienced due to the various stories despite it not being my intention, my heart hurts more.

I thought that I needed time now to recharge and reorganize myself, so I will be leaving soon for training with a plan that isn't set for too long of a time. I will try my best so that that time period will not go to waste, and get ready for the day when I will meet you all again. I want to think over agencies calmly, so as I'm not hurrying, there is nothing that has been decided on, but if something is decided on later, I'll deliver the news to you first.

I'll gain strength from the support of all of you who always cheer me on, and do my best to learn and return. Wait for me.

According to FNC Entertainment on January 22, the girls will be changing some of the controversial dance moves for Miniskirt before performing on broadcast stages.

AOA is currently in the process of changing its choreography, taking advice from fans, with hopes of calming down the controversy surrounding its performance.

The new version of Miniskirt choreography will be revealed through January 24’s broadcast of KBS 2TV’s Music Bank.

Never heard of this, unless some collaboration happens.

Either 1 or 2, not 3. Replacement dancers are used sometimes so that the rest of the group don't have to do new choreography. Nine Muses used 2 replacements this week when Eunji and Lee Sem were absent (though they went with just the 7 for a performance prior to that). SM has used replacement dancers in the past - Super Junior has used them, and Lay - before he was part of EXO - was a dance replacement for SHINee's Jonghyun during a 2011 concert tour.

Stuff like this makes me wonder whether legalizing prostitution would help curb sex slaves and all that crap... maybe Amsterdam can be taken as a prime example on how to do it right?

So earlier today I noticed a strange Twitter account following just myself and ym1r, tweeting out the following link: http://KPOPGAFANFICTIONS.TUMBLR.COM.

I don't know who is writing this but I'm sorry for seeing your tweets so late. PLEASE WE NEED MORE.

Bahahaha this is gold!!

Speaking of Korean class, this week is filled with shittons of tests. If I fail level 2 I will suffer from great depression. Cannot stand the same lazy and badly behaved fucks one more term.

I think I did well, though.

Sadly it looks it will take one full year to be fairly decent (academic wise) in the language.

If I stayed in Brazil, I was supposed to graduate June 2015. Damn.
