Killzone Shadow Fall - Ultra High Bitrate MP Footage

heh I used the exact same pic

Just downloaded it to my ipad at work!!!! Dayum!!! This and Rosengun will keep me occupied for a while!!!

Looks really good, but I don't really like how there are so many overlaying color effects in the game. Colors are good, but instagram-ish effects are not (don't get jumpy at my use of "instagram", you get what i'm referring to).

It's the gif dithering.

I have to say, I didn't think this would be a big deal to me, but I'm loving the lighting. It took my eyes a bit to even adjust and register all of the information on the screen because the lighting was so good.

Shame I don't like the gameplay at all.

After watching this footage vs. the Eurogamer BF4 PS4 mp footage It's absolutely crazy how much better this looks than BF4. They look like two separate generations apart.

Let's not get ahead of ourselves.

It really does. The guns in BF4 look so basic in comparison, the texture quality and lighting is world's apart.

I get that BF4 has more scale, but it just looks dull in comparison. Everything is improved in KZ:SF. I think the difference between a cross-gen engine versus one developed ground up is on full display.

Let's see... one is a small scale peak a boo map and the other is a massively huge 64 player battle with dozens of vehicles and destruction.

Yes, definitely remotely comparable.

Hmm. Big KZ2 fan here (not so much KZ3).

It looks... good for multiplayer. If this were playing at a nice solid 60fps (felt like 30 in the video), very good for multiplayer.

But other than some of the details like the gun model, I did not get a "next gen" feel from this video.

This looks good as hell. I was surprised at how good this looked, even given what I'd seen of the game before.

Explain this "next gen" feel.

I could actually watch the Gamersyde upload since it was at a lower bitrate. HOLY WOW this thing looks incredible. That 60fps... :-o Easily the best looking next-gen game we've seen a good amount of so far.

Wait, what? It looked like a perfect 60fps through the whole thing.

Probably was your video player, because it's definitely 60 FPS on my screen.

I agree though, aside from the super high resolution gun texture/player models (which are incredible) I don't find anything particularly mind-blowing in terms of visuals. Ground/environmental textures are pretty blah and the map design seems really small/claustrophobic.

I just don't see this multiplayer doing anything different. Seems like the same old deathmatch I've played for 20 years in countless other FPS games. From what I've seen, it seems pretty similar to COD, which I'm not crazy about. Hoping there are some unique game modes at least.

Otherwise I think I'm sticking to campaign.

Explain this "next gen" feel.

OK.

Some particularly impressive lighting -- some crazy dynamic shadowing, for example. A large draw distance and a large play area. This was quite confined. It looked fine.

I don't necessarily expect those things for an online vs. portion of the game, but by the same token as a visual showpiece it didn't seem that amazing. Probably best I've seen on consoles but not eye-popping.

Wait, what? It looked like a perfect 60fps through the whole thing.

So I was playing it with MPlayer OS X Extended. It looked like a perfect... 30fps. After you said that I started thinking maybe I was crazy.

So I played it with VLC. Boom! Yes, that time it was a perfect 60fps. So I blame the first video player. Maybe it's not good with MOVs or something.

Goes without saying -- it looked... well... a lot better.

P.S. If we're nitpicking, I did see 2 instances of LOD pop-in.

Gentlemen

let us not forget the actual sound design. Shit has come quite a bit of ways since KZ2 (which honestly sounds a bit flat nowadays, I know because I beat it again last week). It's outstanding and sounds like it's already surpassed KZ3's amazing SFX.

Agreed. Compare this shot from BF4:

to this shot from KZ:SF:

As you can, the notion that there's a clear delineation between a "current-gen engine" and a "next-gen engine" is on full display here.

I have no idea what any of this mean but you guys most likely will! :)

I completely understand where you’re coming from, our audio guys are super-passionate and they (painfully) remind us how audio is under-rated in games. People appreciate it, but they find it hard to pinpoint what it is they love about the experience. They’re more inclined to think it’s the visuals that impress than then the audio… It is tricky to judge for most people though, audio is so omnipresent and subtle!
One thing we also noticed is that automatic downmixes aren’t always the best solution, we mix specifically for multichannel and stuff like phase-inversion or cross-panning tricks get lost on a simple downmix. So we are trying to optimize for Stereo systems specifically as we know a lot of people have them and a simple 7.1 -> 2 downmix won’t do the audio experience justice.

I hope you’ll be happily surprised by KZ:SF. The team put in a lot of effort to make this game stellar for audio enthusiasts, with new systems like early reflections for gun sounds (a system we call MADR), tying in music to sound effects with dynamic mixers and much more. We’re looking at doing some presentation on the subject at conferences and hope to put them on our website too for you all to enjoy. No promises yet, but we’re working on it!
I’ll ask our audio team if they maybe want to put up some audio example videos with proper multi-channel audio for the crowd that wants to hear what the game *sounds* like. Thanks for the suggestion

I think the environment looks better in BF4, personally. But to me KZ:SF has better weapon models. I'm talking mp, and the KZ map from the video (the forest).

Sound is just as important as graphics in immersing you into the experience.

YES!

Yes, they've definitely taken the sound design to the next level. It's very impressive. Sounds Oscar worthy so far.

Not following you.

When a game tries to add another element, it gets shitted on and people bitch and moan about it being unbalanced. Now, if they're the same people, they're all about the chaos of battlefield's fights and their many vehicles and complaining that KZ looks like every other deathmatch.

Just download the HQ vid. Immediately saw the 60fps difference. Everything looks gravy.
I only saw it keep a steady 60 for a few seconds at the beginning, and a few seconds around 43s in. Otherwise it's a high unlocked framerate between 30 and 60, most likely with triple buffering.
