Got the same one, you wont regret it. Sitting here now enjoying it. It is a beast.
Hopefully Samsung doesn't know what they're talking about and it doesn't take a month to get here, but it's a damn good deal, so I'll wait.

Biggest TV in the apartment right now is a 40", and the bezel is crazy.

Looking forward to 65". Finally gonna have to upgrade my Netflix subscription as well.

Haha yeah updated my subscription as well. The Tv upscales beautifully. Even games on the og current gen consoles look amazing when upscaled by the tv. Took 4 days for mines to come in.

I think I might leave this thread altogether and just enjoy my new TV for a while, until I get a PS4 Pro. Just ordered a Disney WOW blu-ray but jesus christ the headaches that I have staring at whites and blacks, the paranoia about distinguishing colors and settings between games, movies, cable and HDR content. I will post my settings as they are and just watch the rest of Daredevil - a series I can recommend wholeheartedly! I also started watching Black Mirror which is not in HDR, but what an intriguing series!

HDR Settings:
Picture mode Movie
Backlight 20
Brightness 46
Contrast 93
Sharpness 0
Color 50
Tint (G/R) R 50
Digital clean view Off
Auto Motion Plus Off
Smart-LED High
Dynamic Contrast Off
Color temp Warm2
Gamma 0
Color space Native

White Balance 2 point:
R- +1
G- -2
B- -1
R+ +1
G+ -4
B+ +3

Cable settings:
Backlight 7
Contrast 85
Sharpness 15
Smart LED Low
Color Space Custom (too many settings to list but honestly Auto and my calibrations don't diverge much)
Everything else the same as HDR

Gaming settings: (again, not HDR gaming)
Picture Mode Game
Sharpness 8
Smart LED Off
HDMI Black Level Normal (I turn this to low for "non-cinematic games like Smash")
Everything else the same as Cable

Is this TV supposed to pop up a message when viewing hdr so you know?
Only when viewing through HDMI inputs, so for example the Netflix app does not show it. The easy way to check that HDR is playing is to go to the picture menu and look for backlight. It automatically goes to 20 (max) when it's playing HDR unless you've set it lower previously.

Should it show when using my PS4? I played FFXV and turned on HDR but saw no message popped up so I didnt know if it actually was working

I don't have a Pro but from what I've read you should get an HDR notification. Make sure you go to settings->picture->expert->hdmi uhd color-> on for your PS4Pro input

Edit: I have one more question. My soundbar doesn't start up together with the TV. Connected via SoundConnect, they sync up whenever I turn on the soundbar and if I turn the TV off it also shuts off the soundbar. Anyone ever experience this?

Heres my baby all set up.

Damn that looks good. Congrats on a sweet setup!

I'm absolutely loving this TV. I really don't sweat the settings. I've played around with things a bit, but nothing looks better to me than the settings in the OP. Only difference is that I set my contrast to 90 rather than 94.

Thanks! I appreciate it. I go back and forth with my settings daily. My girl likes the dynamic setting but it scorches my eyeballs lol. I tweaked a few settings in movie mode and i use that one occasionally.

Strange I definitely have that option turned on. Can anyone else with a pro confirm if I should get the message?

Ahh...thought I'd at least get 4K. Can barely get it to get to HD, haha.

I'd ignore the Pro apps completely, but the YouTube app keeps signing out on the Samsung. See that other people in the thread have the same problem. Hopefully they fix it.

No, it gets 4K on the Pro app, for certain, although you need the 4K plan from netflix as well as not forcing 1080p video output from the Pro...

I just double checked it right now, on Chefs Table France it is 4K, right away, but it does not get HDR.

I set backlight to 20. Do I have to keep adjusting it? Want hdr for ffxv

If you're using game mode, then you'll have to keep changing it, because it doesn't remember the settings for HDR independently from non-HDR on game mode. Outside of game mode, it will.

I dunno if it has been talked about, but I've noticed something interesting with my set (JS8500). Some games by default seem really muted in HDR mode, for example a beach in Uncharted 4 that is suppose to be bright and sunny instead looking like a drab stormy day. So I had the random idea of cranking the in-game brightness setting and boom, everything is wonderful. And yes, blacks don't turn grey, and details in brighter areas don't go away like they do if I would to crank in-game brightness during SDR games.

I seem to recall hearing that HDR works differently from SDR and you actually need to be feeding the set the maximum the picture can produce and then HDR handles the rest. While this made Uncharted 4 and First Light look much better and how it should other games like FFXV actually seems to have no visible difference in HDR while I adjust the in-game brightness. The difference between default and maximum brightness in HDR in that game seems very small. This really has me wondering if this really is what you're suppose to do.

Can anyone else turn up the in-game brightness in an HDR game and tell me what they think? I haven't seen anyone else mention this and I'm really curious.

This is so much more annoying than I thought it would be.

Also, unrelated: I've been using sharpness at 17. I think zero is wrong. It's blurring the image too much. It's not normal. (normally I'd agree sharpness at zero, but not on this set... something is off with it.)

So I have had this tv for a few days. In that time I have:

- Sold my Xbox One and purchased an Xbox One S
- Sold my PS4 and purchased a PS4 Pro

I have played the following HDR content:

- Everything available via Netflix
- Gears of War 4
- The Last of Us Remastered
- Uncharted 4
- Deadpool 4K Ultra HD Bluray

So far I have a mixed opinion of this TV. Coming from a 2014 Vizio P Series (UHD, FALD, but not HDR) I must say that in some ways I prefer the Vizio due to better local dimming capabilities. When watching letterbox movies the bars are pure black. Also dark scenes have less blooming than Samsung's edge lit solution. Watching HDR movies makes this even more apparent due to running the backlight at such a high level (but then again, the 2014 P series can't even do HDR).

That aside I will say that the Samsung is brighter and has much better color reproduction. Also it seems to handle scaling of lower resolution content better than the Vizio ever was. Overall it is obviously a much better TV...BUT...being edge lit really is a weakness (and something I worried about before buying).

As far as HDR content goes I shift from being completely underwhelmed to thinking it's pretty darn cool depending on the content being viewed. Unlike most I value the higher resolution more (which I already had in the Vizio). In fact I ended up starting Gears 4 on Xbox One S using HDR but then shifted to my pc (i7-6700/GTX 1070) for higher resolution, better framerate, and image quality. I didn't miss the HDR at all.

My cousin just got this tv and while playing FFXV with the HDR on he's getting objects like the text of the weapons on the bottom left forming another set of text that trails around from behind. It's hard to describe but imagine like a more transparent set of the same text behind it moving around as he moves.

Does anyone know what could be causing this?

Does anyone have issues with the tv being spotty with the wireless internet or could it be a ivp6 issue I remember galaxy 7 had issue with that and worked once I disabled it in the router

So setting backlight to 20 on game mode and keeping it there is ok? I know it should go to 20 for hdr stuff but non hdr stuff using 20 constantly is not going to damage the TV right?

What is the reason behind using Warm 2 instead of the others? Everyone seems to be using it

it's pretty much the industry standard. best for reproducing the proper colors etc. i think it may have something to do with SMPTE (Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers) but I could be wrong.

Is the 55" KS8000 better for 4K HDR gaming than the Sony 55" X850D? I can't tell if my X850D has too much lag or if I am having some sort of confirmation bias due to all the threads. I'm still within return policy so I want to figure this out this weekend.

It comes closest to matching the industry standard. Think of it like this: you might enjoy a cooler picture, with more blue. If so, you'll want standard or cool. But that's like cranking the treble on a graphics equaliser: you're changing the content to suit your tastes, rather than tweaking your equipment to best reproduce the work the creators intended.

I may be guilty of this too: I found tonight that I really like setting Digital Clean View to Auto target than Off. Was watching the Street Fighter Animated Movie BD, and found it a little bit more grainy than it was on my old 720p TV. DCV did a great job of reducing picture noise and cleaning up the image unobtrusively, and without getting rid of all the grain. It struck a really nice balance, and I suspect I'll be keeping it on.

Strange I definitely have that option turned on. Can anyone else with a pro confirm if I should get the message?

Yes you should. The other way is it press the center button on the tv remote (in center of circle pad) which will show the top toolbar; it will say UHD and HDR if you're playing an HDR game.

When you go to your display info on the PS4 settings, make sure it says HDR supported (or something along those lines).

I decided to try the youtube and netflix apps on my PS4Pro this morning, and I noticed that when playing HDR content the TV never picked it up, backlight stayed at 7 and no HDR message. I was not in game mode by the way, switched it over to movie mode.

Do the netflix and youtube apps on the PS4 not support HDR yet? I definitely was able to watch 4k through the apps, just not HDR it seems.

Can anyone confirm?
Netflix doesn't support 4K or HDR on PS4 as of yet.

YouTube supports 4K but not HDR on PS4.

Both support 4K and HDR on the built-in TV apps.

Netflix does support 4 on the ps4, no hdr though.

Someone had mentioned that the ps4 netflix, amazon, youtube apps had worse PQ than the TV apps. Is this true? The wireless on my TV is awwful and keeps disconnecting, so im starting to be forced to watch the ps4 apps.

Edit

Yeah netflix definitely looks better on the TV app. Same exact settings for both sources.

my brother has the KS9000 (KS9500 for usa) what rgb setting should he use limited rgb with limited hdmi black? or full rgb with normal hdmi black?

No, it doesn't. I've checked the app daily and it still doesn't support 4K.

I dont know to tell ya then, 4K works for me and countless others. Check the ps4pro launch thread if you don't believe me.

Did you buy up to the 4k plan? You need to pay extra to enable 4k content.

Is it the US-only or has it been released/updated internationally? And I have the 4K plan, I can watch it fine through my TV app.

It's possible there's a bandwidth problem for them. On the native Netflix you can just push the info button to see what resolution it's running in (I have a Harmony. On the default remote it's something like 123 -> i ) Probably no way to do that on PS4 Pro. Also might help to go into account settings for the profile on Netflix home page and select "High" for video quality instead of Auto.

Just checked again to be certain and played tales by light. It is 100% in 4K through the playstation netflix app.

Not sure why it wouldnt work for you man :(

Got this TV yesterday and I'm having issues connecting it to my PC. My PC detects it as a second monitor and lets me change settings for it, but the TV doesn't detect a signal. Is this because of the cable? Does it need to be a 2.0 one even with UHD color turned off for that port?

I've tried different ports on the One Connect box and had no luck. I might try seeing if the HDMI cable that came with my PS4 Pro works but could take a while as I'd have to untidy everything for it.

Yes, cable issue. See if you get a picture if you turn the HDMI UHD Color option off for the input you are using and use the 4:2:0 setting. Otherwise try setting resolution to 1080p and see if that gives you an image.

Cable should be HDMI High Speed (with or without ethernet) and its quality and length are big factors. HDMI 1.4 and 2.0 market cables should be the same. Unfortunately it's a total crap shoot what will work and what will not so look for reviews or suggestions for the cable.

Thanks for the reply. Lowering its resolution to 1080p did work. I'll look into getting a new cable so 4K works.

Thank you for the responses. I suppose that I'm only surprised because it appears to add a yellow tint to everything and I'm wondering how thats standard.

You press the right stick to get the info to show up on PS4.

I am able to get 4K.

I tried to minimize as much light as I could. The blue on the wall is my HDD connected to the tv. This is a KS9000 btw. I don't think the lightbleed is too bad.

Just switch. After a day or two, flip it back to whatever you were using and be horrified. lol really though, you will see how harsh it was before.

So black levels for PS4 in HDR. I remember seeing a lot of discussion about how to get it right. Did everyone settle on auto on PS4 and TV producing the right results? Want to make sure I'm not crushing blacks. FFXV looks like it's getting crushed to me.

I got one of these sets this week and I switched to all the settings in the op and FFXV looks even more amazing now, thanks op

Odd problem here:

I am finding Standard viewing mode exponentially better than Movie mode for compressed cable TV like Comcast. However, the screen backlight keeps fading no matter what I do. I go into the settings, put the backlight on 12, and the screen instantly brightens a ton. I select the setting, then leave the menu. After a few minutes, it fades back down to about a 5 level, even though the menu setting is 12. I can even go back into the menu and turn the light setting down, and te screen will get brighter. Anybody else having this issue?

Edit: Nevermind. Eco sensor was on and that is what was happening. I cannot overstate how much better Standard mode is for Cable TV.

Phil0sophy - on the one hand, I can see what you mean. By eyeballing the Sharpness on my TV, it does look a little too soft at zero. On the other, testing sharpness is so easy, I can't believe Rtings and DF wouldn't have used a test pattern to calibrate it.

As for Standard vs Warm2, I could believe this is off. Warm2 looks right to me, but that's just because I set up the colour temperature on my old TV to look like that. I know I'll easily get used to whichever is "right" (as in, TV displaying most accurate colours), so if there's debate I hope more people weigh in. I switched to Warm1, since that's suggested by the Xbone's calibration menu. I'll see if I get used to it, if it feels too cool, etc.
