Valve's hosting a free 24-hour period this friday for Left 4 Dead. Pre-load now!

Beginning Friday at 12:01 am GMT, the PC version of Left 4 Dead will be available for a free 24-hour trial via Steam. The free trial will include access to the recently released Survival Pack DLC, which introduces a new multiplayer game mode and two additional Versus campaigns. Those who wish to give L4D and the Survival Pack a try may now pre-load everything needed to play with no obligation to purchase.

I loaded up Steam and clicked "Pre-load now" and nothing happens. What am I doing wrong?

Okay. This could either really backfire on them. I can see people finishing all the modes (campaign on easy) in 24hrs and not opting to pay for the full release. Then again the fun is in the higher difficulties.

This friday will be the best time to get into Versus mode. That's for sure.

Someone could play a round on every Team Fortress 2 map during a free weekend, but it's not like that diminishes the replayability of the game.

Don't worry, they'll finish the game in about a day give or take and then buy it because it's awesome. Then they'll feel really stupid the next day when they realize that it's about a days worth of entertainment. Buyer's remorse FTW.

It would be cool if they did a 360 tie in. where silver members got the weekend free (48 hour code plus friday free) but oh well I guess I'm just dreaming.

It use to be able to run TF2 at 20-30fps on low settings but now it chokes on that, I think it's on it's last legs. If there is a weekend sale i'll bite for sure.

I was in a situation like that as well and did not buy L4D because it actually requires a generation newer of video card than I have.
