Let It Die |OT| F2P roguelike Dark Souls with a skateboarding skeleton

What a treat this is, pretty much completely dropping out of nowhere for me. Played to the second elevator and escaped with some handy blueprints and mats. Seems like a surprising amount of depth for a F2P experience. Having fun so far and looking forward to spending more time with it.

I think my biggest gripe is running into a hater that's so far above you in levels and gear, that's it's basically impossible to not end up dead.

Okay they need to fix 'dodge rolling' in relation to stamina. I literally died cause an enemy hit me when I had low stamina and the only way to get out of their combo was to dodge roll but doge rolling put me into the 'no stamina' state and thus it was an endless loop.

I killed two level 27 people when I had yet to level up. I can see it being harder depending on the weapon they are using, but if they are using some slow 2 handed weapon, it's basically a free kill.

Or you can just use those explosive mushrooms.

I was on a second naked character and couldn't do any damage with my fists. Died in 2 hits.

Played it for an hour or two, but already deleted it. Loved the style, but I'm finding Suda's games increasingly more difficult to play simply because they just feel clunky from controls, combat, movement, everything. It just isn't fun for me.

Couple hours in, I think it's pretty fantastic so far. I know people find issue with the general clunkiness of Suda51 combat but I enjoy it. It's better than another Arkham clone in terms of combat.

So, thinking late-game here, it's entirely possible to troll people by building up a body to a certain level with certain gear, then intentionally dying in a high-traffic chokepoint where you're overleveled so that your Hater can be a sort of gatekeeper.

So, why diud they decide to put all the tutorial letters into such a small window compared to the rest of the screen. it's unreadable at a distance I sti from the screen.

How do I throw mushrooms, I couldn't make out that tutorial..

I think jumping takes no stamina.

NeoGAF's smiling token!
After beating Coen to death with my bare fists taking a measly 6dmg for what felt like hours* in nothing, but my underwears I have decided to retire* undefeated in Let It Die.

several very monotonous minutes not hours

for now, possibly forever

I'm guessing I'm the only one dumb enough to accidently keep healing themselves by pressing the touch pad instead of options. ._.

My initial impressions after half an hour are that it isn't nearly as clunky as I was led to believe. The controls feel relatively tight/responsive, and the framerate is solid. The biggest example of "clunk" I could identify at this point is the hit registration and recovery frames when dodging...dodging feels responsive, but it seems like you can't actually recover fast enough from a dodge to exploit the enemy's missed attack. The enemy has inevitably finished their attack(s) before the roll animation ends, leaving you at a clean combat state for both entities, which defeats the offensive purpose of the dodge roll.

Edit: I should point out that the animations are actually pretty rough in general, so I can see why someone might still conclude that the game is stiff/clunky

I'm having a lot of fun but I don't like it how some enemies don't react when you hit them. I hit them while their animation was playing and it played out like I hadn't.

Really tempted to download it, but still have to beat FFXV and taking the JLPT tomorrow so uh...

Does it really feel Dark Souls-esque? In terms of how you plod along through the environments and such? Also, does it have any semblance of a story or is it more of a f2p grindfest?

Oh shit. So the crafting is interesting!

See, while yes, it's time gated. In the sense that you must wait time after crafting (ala Warframe), you don't need to recraft something later on. You can simply buy it again from the guy. Although it does look like there is a time thing with also buying stuff...

Luckily what I got thus far only cost 1 min... I don't really see the point of the wait time.

Game take awhile to load up for you guys?

Kind of liking it. Need some more time with it. Assuming everything is saved on their servers. I see no save files.

So someone explain death to me (not Uncle Death, actual death in the game).

Specifically, if you die and dont use a continue, what happens to all the gear/loot that character was carrying? I kind of used up all my continues because I didnt want to lose the blueprints I found before getting back to the waiting room. :p

Pretty good game overall.

Bag items are lost, any gear you were wearing (weapons and armor) is on your Hater and used against other players.

From what I played so far, its like a Dark Souls-lite. The leveling system is very much like Dark Souls, where you spend pts to increase stats, and the costs go higher the higher your level is. Item drops are more frequent, but gear tends to break pretty quickly, and there doesnt seem to be any actual repair mechanic.

So my decision to blow through all my available continues to preserve all the blueprints I found was probably a good call then.

And before anyone asks, I sort of kind of went up a couple of floors without actually leveling my character at all, so ended up in a trap room, surrounded by enemies, and I was still level 1. So yeah, stupid move there. Good news is that I can now make a chest piece, pants, and crossbow.

Thanks, sounds pretty interesting. I'd like to try it when I get a chance, acid trip Dark Souls could really work under the right circumstances.

Has anyone beaten the quest Armor Limit 001? I've done what it says a few times but it won't mark as complete. Guess I'm missing something.

Yeah, I did the same thing to get a blueprint back to the waiting room. I don't know if stuff you've brought back (coins, LS items, redeemed blueprints, etc) stay after death though. I don't want to find out...

I do wish I knew how to get more ammo, I'm guessing that's also a blueprint? I was gifted a glinty magnum right from the start, and I kinda used it all up already.

Bloody Hell, I just finished up a 5 hour play session on this game...didn't see that one coming.

Really great stuff here, loving it.

Not going to lie... Has anyone else used their free 'revive' tokens yet?

I meant to throw the mushroom that explodes and instead eat it and died.

How do I do different attacks besides normals and Rage attack
Also, im getting major audio lag. Happening to anyone else?

You can learn new attacks (R1 or L1) by leveling up weapons.

Try to keep a good variety of weapons on hand, especially steam irons. Their Rage AOE (hold triangle and press R2 or L2) creates a massive heat cloud that does a lot of damage. Great for wiping out 2-3 enemies at once.
