Let's Talk About PlayStation VR: List of Upcoming Titles

Wooo....my move contollers will live on

Now just need something awesome to support the sharp shooter I got for Killzone / Resistance 3.

Also hope to see Sports Championship revived. Specifically Disc golf.

PS Move Nav Controller confirmed to support PSVR (for those of you who want an analog for movement)
Great news. There is no good alternative to moving around in game. two moves just cant do it properly

I loved move in KZ3 and resistance but hated the sharpshooter. The reason was that I found it very awkward to pivot my whole upper body to nudge the screen around.
With PSVR however the screen / view will be independent of the controller (i.e. your head) so the sharpshooter will probably be a great peripheral with PSVR.

Yeah. The screen nudging wasnt ideal but still fun. VR would allow proper movement and aiming.

I really don't think Sony have a lot of confidence in PSVR what with reusing these old controllers. Reeks of half assed effort, low investment throwing shit at the wall to see if anything sticks. By every account the Vive wands and Oculus Touch are what take the experiences to a next level.

They are doing the best with what they have. I'm sure it will work just fine.

By every account the Move controllers work great with the experiences that have been demo'd so far.

I'd say the Move controllers work wonderfully and it's a good solid "move" on Sony's part.

They seem to have the utmost confidence to me. It's the platform that is most suited for success right now IMO.

They may work, but they were hardly bullet proof on PS3. What it comes down to is could they build a better device with more tracking points, updated gyros/accelero's, and a more VR focused design/layout? Absolutely. Move HW was finalized back in 2009, it's stupid to suggest they couldn't build something a lot better now, over 6 years later.

Google cardboard is the platform most suited for success, that doesn't mean it's good or optimal.

Fools not to. For YouTube can you even get your mind around VR commercials?

any chance netflix and youtube get on board?

Google have their own VR product and are apparently already butting heads with Oculus/GearVR about putting their apps on the Oculus Facebook store. They have no GearVR apps, despite official Cardboard apps already existing. There also isn't an official YT app on Amazon's Fire OS or the Windows Store, so they have no problem withholding their IP. Netflix is a shoo-in (unless Oculus/Facebook bought an exclusivity window, they already have a GearVR app and IIRC announced a CV1 app for release), but Google's stuff is hardly a guarantee.

What you mean reusing the controllers that 10m+ people already have, lowering the barrier to entry for PSVR to those most likely to buy PSVR? (I.e. Loyal/hardcore Sony fans)

Reusing the controllers that were part of the genesis of the PSVR headset back in 2010?

Reusing controllers that still stand up technologically when it comes to positional tracking?

Clearly a demonstration of 'no confidence' in PSVR.

There were probably 500 million Dual Shock 3's in circulation, that didn't stop them from doing a DS4 that almost everyone agrees is superior. Don't get me wrong, you can dig into my post history to see I was a huge champion of Move. I love it and would be over the moon if the KZ3 control scheme had become the defacto standard in console shooters. The problem with Move (and now the Navigation) though is that it objectively doesn't reach feature parity with the competition. There is no configuration that allows both hands to be tracked with analog sticks. That's not even getting into all the subjective impressions out of the various trade shows (GDC, E3) that suggest Move in general does not have the fidelity of Valve's Lighthouse powered wands or Oculus' Touch, and feels more "jankey".

People seem to forget that they already designed a new Move controller for use with PSVR.

Yup. Just look at the controller to see how committed Sony is to VR. They didn't add the lightbar just so you could mess around with mini robots or have a siren on your controller in GTA; it was designed with VR from the start.

How are the Rift and Vive taking advantage of the dual analog sticks?

P.S. A primary controller can make or break a console when your closest console competitor is breathing down your neck. Sony doesn't seem to feel the same sense of urgency to compete with PC VR spec for spec as they did with Xbox.

Not really the best form for 3D tracking though.

You could say the same about PSVR in general tho - it's a lower fidelity VR experience than its competitors generally.

Touch doesn't have the fidelity of the Vive wands, and from what I've read sits between the Move and Vive wands. But what is OR launching with? The Xbone controller.

Touch will be an additional, probably reasonably expensive, cost on top of the HMD (and PC upgrades/new build if that's what is needed) and won't ship until after launch. Because the DS4 has the light bar to allow for positional tracking at least devs for PSVR will have a similar target controller to aim for.

Personally I think Sony will launch a revised Move controller at some point - maybe at launch, more likely 6-12 months in when they've got an idea of where the market is going & also because IMO that's a reasonable amount of time to get consumers to part with some additional funds.

Agreed but hopefully at launch.

The confirmation of Nav controller support makes me think that there may be a new Move that combines both parts in to one unit.

God I hope so. I'd buy it!

Unity bought a small UK studio for further improving PlayStation integration (they have been working together since 2013). They are specifically working on (further) PSVR integration at the moment and an official statement mentions something interesting:

"The Engine Room Games team will also contribute to other areas of Unity development including particles and general optimization. At the minute they're working on expanding Unity support for PlayStation VR, including 3D audio and Social Screen."

Social screen? Haven't heard that mention anywhere before.

Sony called it social screen from the start. It is either mirroring what VR user is seeing, or showcasing brand new camera view for couch coop players.

Yes, exactly.

I'm waiting for Sony or a dev to implement a social screen on a horror game where a player viewing the TV can trigger horror events to the VR headset wearing player. Such a creative feature :P

Gonna start saving right the hell now. If it costs US$300 in the US, it will probably be around US$600 around here.

Please bring Heavy Rain and Beyond! Also long live Dead or Alive Xtreme 3!

Oooh yeah! For example Social Screen can showcase "pure stats screen" with simple UI for manipulating gameworld/user as coop players seem fit. :D

I'll be able to try PS VR for the first time tomorrow. I'll share my impression tomorrow.

Shu has talked about this before, it was an internal demo created in house. Can't find the link now but it was back in 2014.

I just tried London Heist on PSVR. I am thoroughly mindblown

Wow at the demo, the PS move works really well, and i was able to interactive with many things in the game.

While inside the car, i was able to grab and toss the drink can, turn the radio dial, the air condition switch etc. I even tried grabbing the car door handle and was able to open it. But i closed it almost as soon as i open it as i didn't want to try anything funny. When the action starts i grab the gun, open the glove compartment, and start playing.

Firing the gun and reloading is pretty easy. I gunned down several people on bikes and vehicles and i also tried firing at the wheels to put them down.

I'll put up some photos soon

I hope that London Heist/Highway will not end up being just those short demos. They should create much more content and offer longer experience to early PSVR users.

Nice to read these impressions, especially considering you have been somewhat skeptical about PSVR's future in previous posts. Have your opinions on PSVR changed after playing this demo?

I still think the library is still lacking though.

As for the quality of the hardwares i guess you can say they have surpassed my expectation. The headset is comfortable and easy to wear. but when i first wore it, the game looks blurry and out of focus, so i actually have to shift the headset a little before it looks clear to me. The resolution is still lacking but I think thats a very minor issue since everyone's busy focusing on the game itself.

ps move for PS VR is very intuitive and easy to use. I guess most part of the excitment is due to it being my first time playing with a motion sensing device with VR. I am looking forward to try the alternatives on oculus rift and htc vive.

How about the visuals?

Thank you for your impressions.
