That was so weird. It looked like they took fighting animations and changed the weapons from a dagger to a purse.

The silver dress is pretty and looks good on her.
SquareEnix should patch it in Lightning Returns. That game has so many horribly designed outfits.

Toriyama must be so proud of her. Like parents seeing their kids graduating. He always believed in her and now she proved the world that she truly is a goddess.

Why is everyone hating on Lightnings design just because her character is bad? I thought her Jacket/scarf combo in her original design looked really slick and her sword is pretty good looking.

I dont know what they were thinking with that tiara in the LV vid though.

Her character design is fine. It's everything else about her sucks.

Nah. She's this season's model. Will be forgotten by the end of the year.

We were saying that 7 years ago, yet she's still here haunting us. Not only do they keep dragging up the corpse but somehow her body keeps getting progressively worse. These images here, her head looks really off - like it's been pasted on, really weird arm and overall proportions... frankly it's bad and a lazy showing from Visual Works.

I'm trying to figure out who they're trying to appeal to here.

is beloved, despite what anyone might say
Who is this even appealing to? Most of the people I know who are into games are anything but the 'high fashion' type (graphic ts, sweatshirts, hoodies, jeans). I'm only familiar with the brand because my mom talks about a lot of this stuff.

They're definitely not going for gamers or FF fans or whatever, they're aiming at the same market the 'series' err, series has been going for since it launched four? years ago, current young women interested in fashion, and the digital age is in at the moment.

Fashion is hot for strange tie-ups and collaborations, always has been really, but nowadays even more. With Ghesquiere's concept of the digital age and the digital girl for LV lately it makes sense that Lightning was chosen as a model, but honestly, I don't think Lightning herself is what's important, or why she was chosen. Sure, she's 'good looking' but what they were going for is the novelty of using a virtual character. Of course, and taking into account marketing and such, they probably thought it'd be a good idea to use an already existing one rather than make one themselves, and thus she was chosen, also considering how important Square Enix is in the gaming industry and how good Visual Works is. Though it's not been said yet, I really think LV approached SE and not the other way around.

Lightning has a lot of baggage in the gaming world, specially considering the backlash FFXIII got, but in fashion she's just another pretty new face, but not a real one, which is what makes this special and why they did it. People from the fashion world don't care what everyone thinks of HD towns being hard or linear corridors or a 20 hour tutorial, because that is irrelevant here. Gamers' opinions are also irrelevant. What is relevant is what using Lightning as a model represents for fashion, for Louis Vuitton as a trendsetting brand, and for Ghesquiere's work as creative director.

Her belly looking so flat is weird...and kinda creepy to be honest. Even compared to the other skinny real model which at least has abdominals.

The advantage of a virtual model is that they don't need to deal with the reality that women who look like that are extremely unhealthy or nonexistent. If you look at the picture of the one where Lightning has her arms crossed and is looking off to the side, can you see her rib cage? The waist slopes way too far inwards, so she doesn't have a rib cage, lol.

My guess with this collection and marketing, LV is aiming towards the young rich consumers in Asia (specifically China?). The 'anime' theme and the selection of a video game character as a marketing model probably reflects that.

Every time I look at these fashion pictures of Lightning, I don't see the original Lightning face or even her supposed personality in there at all. It's the same dissonance to be had with the swimsuit and bikini outfits of LR—none of her clothes or outfits match with her supposed character, the former 'cop' of Cocoon turned Goddess's knight turned savior or whatever. The costume design for females always bother me because I never feel like the female character is wearing something the female character would choose to wear herself. The LV line here doesn't look like something a somber, previously unstylish person would wear; it doesn't match Lightning's age either.

To those who just like the shallow physicality of the character, and paint her personality however they please and envision in their heads without the confusing grounding in the written game stories, then this is just another exciting 'doll dress up' opportunity.

When I said Lightning is this season's model, I don't mean it in the sense of her character in the video game industry, but rather how long she'll last in fashion. You don't become a fashion icon through just one modeling gig, and you certainly don't become an icon by lacking personality and style. lol

I call this the "I pooed my pants but you can't tell" look.
