Because she won the draw before overtime. The German fencer had to act.
So the clock shows 0:01 with 1.9 left to 0.1 left? Makes no sense.Fencing Update
The German media is reporting that the time was scored correctly during fencing. There were 1.9s left after the first hit, 1.2 after 2nd hit and the winning hit was still within the time limit.
The problem was that the official scoreboard clock only shows full seconds (while the time is kept in tenths). Figure in the human reaction time to start the clock and this could make sense..
What type of mickey mouse official sporting clock only shows whole seconds?Fencing Update

these a draw of straws before extra time to give one of the fencers an advantage (win) in case that they dont score any points.
Why announce that? What relevance does that have
Was going to ask this after you posted the 1st pic. Are you competing in the Olympics? Not a bad view of the ring, if I do say so myself.

It does make sense if it's only an exception for times below 1s. 0s mean end of the match, so the clock cant show 0s if there are still 0.5s left.
Watching the foil fencing on and off over the weekend, men's and women's, I've seen a lot of fencers get very mad at the judges. I don't pretend to understand the scoring system (technical advantage? parry?), but it appeared a lot of them got pissed about possibly bullshit calls. Maybe they just seem to be a hotheaded bunch, but I saw one guy (I don't remember what country) get so mad, call the judge over, and get in his face about something. He looked like he was ready to storm off.
This image of the South Korean on the piste will be one of the lasting ones from the Olympics. I'm sure of it.

The BBC commentators are now logging on to THE SAME LIVE INTERACTIVE SERVICE WE'RE WATCHING to find out the timing.
I understand that as long as she stays on the piste she is within her rights of not accepting the judges decision. Is there something else actively going on? Are they still reviewing the time?

Épée is less controversial though because of simultanious hits count for both fencers. So there is less arguing over who initiated the attack.Watching the foil fencing on and off over the weekend, men's and women's, I've seen a lot of fencers get very mad at the judges.
