In a lower weight category a North Korean won the gold from group B. They are getting tons of crowd love.

That is two ORs for NK men so far.

Fencing Update

The German media is reporting that the time was scored correctly during fencing. There were 1.9s left after the first hit, 1.2 after 2nd hit and the winning hit was still within the time limit.

The problem was that the official scoreboard clock only shows full seconds (while the time is kept in tenths). Figure in the human reaction time to start the clock and this could make sense..
So the clock shows 0:01 with 1.9 left to 0.1 left? Makes no sense.

Omg, that's so douche.

these a draw of straws before extra time to give one of the fencers an advantage (win) in case that they dont score any points.
What type of mickey mouse official sporting clock only shows whole seconds?

Any of the swimming right now finals? Just saw a semi. Can't rewind because nbc's stream is "live or bust"

(Can't do expatshield on a work computer)

That's the second time a clock issue has messed up proceedings the other time was USA vs France basketball. least the poor woman has been given a towel and water.

Sounds like she legit loss if that truly is how the timekeeping went. Pretty stupid that it is displayed in full seconds if it is truly measured in tenths however.

This image of the South Korean on the piste will be one of the lasting ones from the Olympics. I'm sure of it.

In America, 1 second = 1 second. Not 1.9 seconds. If there is 1.9, it actually shows 1.9, not 1 second.

Watching the foil fencing on and off over the weekend, men's and women's, I've seen a lot of fencers get very mad at the judges. I don't pretend to understand the scoring system (technical advantage? parry?), but it appeared a lot of them got pissed about possibly bullshit calls. Maybe they just seem to be a hotheaded bunch, but I saw one guy (I don't remember what country) get so mad, call the judge over, and get in his face about something. He looked like he was ready to storm off.

The BBC commentators are now logging on to THE SAME LIVE INTERACTIVE SERVICE WE'RE WATCHING to find out the timing.

2012 2012 2012 2012 2012.

Is hungary the favorite in men's and women's or just one of them? I remember them saying they're crazy good when the opening ceremony was going on .

It does make sense if it's only an exception for times below 1s. 0s mean end of the match, so the clock cant show 0s if there are still 0.5s left.

Eh, makes no sense for american. Once you get to 1 min it switches the scoreboard to 60.0 seconds and counts down like that.

Federer probably secretly wants to lose. He already has gold for Doubles, and Djokovic and Murray are both out of the Doubles. You would think he would want to concentrate on the Singles tournament.

A part of fencing scoring is determining who was on the offensive and who was on the defensive. Naturally, sometimes the participants disagree with the judges.

Imagine how shitty that feels. You feel like you may have been cheated, but at the same time you are out in front of everybody. The sole reason why everything is being held up.

Also, someone please expalin this money appeal thing. Did the Koreans have to run out to an ATM?

I understand that as long as she stays on the piste she is within her rights of not accepting the judges decision. Is there something else actively going on? Are they still reviewing the time?

The reason for the money is to stop people throwing a claim in all the time well that's what the commentator said as i know sweet F'all about fencing :)

So I guess the BBC doesn't get much more info than us viewers? They can't even choose their own replays etc. I suppose.

Épée is less controversial though because of simultanious hits count for both fencers. So there is less arguing over who initiated the attack.
