Is Women's Gymnastics pretty much the only Olympic competition where it pretty much favors youth over experience? It was nice seeing Gabby win and all, but I can't help but wonder what it does to a lot of these girls mentally when they don't win since they're usually the ones who are most notably in tears.

There are older gymnasts there. Beth Tweddle is 27, and a significant medal hope.

It does seem to favour the suppleness of being young, though.

Matt in the Telegraph conveys the true spirit of the Olympics:

This is indeed correct.

It's GER v GER in the womens beach volleyball last 16 now.

GER winning 1 set to 0.

Goller & Ludwig are winning.

This could get confusing.

Ludwig is seriously very good at this volleyball lark. The dig she did then whilst jumping away from the net at the back of the court was awesome.

Denise Lewis went to school with my sisters (Regis up in the West Midlands). They're always slightly amused how she seems to got so well-spoken, lost almost all of the Wolverhampton accent.

Is this Godfrey with archery? If archery wasn't such an inconsistent sport then I'd be harder on him. The guy is a great archer so what can you do?

Yeah Godfrey. He seems like a decent guy and I'm sure he tried his best so I'm probably being a bit harsh. I'm just beginning to wonder if the home crowd is really an advantage, some of the British competitors seem to be enjoying the occasion so much they lose their killer instinct.

but some totally use it to their advantage, like the rowers and the cyclists. it's the same at any olympics, there's always disappointments and underwhelming performances, home crowd or not. the team is in a pretty excellent position after yesterday now.

and the archery guy hardly choked, he got beaten in one of those brutal shootoffs.

He's also a part-time archer and not one of the ones who spend every waking moment training (which I guarantee you the South Koreans do).

Archery isn't really a sport that requires controlled agression that can be boosted by crowd support. If anything you need to be calm and controlled when doing it.
