SERIOUSLY FABIANA?
SRSLY?
So much choking. China wins the set.

What? The Rowing where we were supposed to win every rowing event according to Team GB spokesman a couple of months ago.
Longest rally: 48 strokes![]()
She lost because the timekeeper/referee made a mistake that she could (and should) have appealed during the match but didn't. You could say she lost because she didn't appeal early enough.
"Referee or timekeeper made a mistake ? Not going to appeal it, I'm going to win anyway. Whoops, I lost, time to appeal."

1) Provide me a link or two that says that the reason the appeal was thrown out was because it wasn't made at the correct time. I haven't heard this at all.
2) It's possible...probable even, that she, her coach, and people in the audience had no idea what was going on when it happened. They're not the timekeepers. The whole incident went down very quickly, and it happened to be the last second of the match. This is far from a competitor complaining about the results after the match ended, and you know it.
Fencing isn't even a subjective sport, from what I can tell. So for you to say that you have no sympathy for someone who trained years for this moment, rightfully won the match, but didn't because they didn't contest an official's error (intentional or not), that's just insanely heartless and you should feel bad as a person.
Here's the entire incident from an audience member's view who recorded it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G7QENF5Uf7k
Still looking for those links that state they "rejected the appeal because she appealed at the wrong time"?
Or did you make all of that up?

What a joke, seriously.
It wasn't a mistake. The timekeeper deliberately didn't do anything for 4-5 seconds.
You are being way too harsh, man.Hopefully they win this game. Our girls don't deserve to be there.
There's no way in hell the goal was to get EVERY gold. They wanted to make all the finals, which they did aside from 1 I think.
It's a myth that Britain is amazing at every rowing event.
Haha I saw that...don't think it's accurate unless I just have no idea what it means![]()

We again have lost another Gold. Uh I don't think Team GB will make it to what they want Gold wise or even Beijing.
Wtf is wrong with you? The ignorance in this thread is simply mind boggling, Google it, read the comments from Csar / Heidemann and other fencing guys. Instead of accusing ElTropo of spinning the facts, everything has already been discussed a 100 times and the relevant articles were posted. Yeah it was an unfortunate decision, it was controversial but it's not like anyone deliberately screwed Shin Lam over.
It's the number of times they strike the feather ball before one of the teams scores a point. 48 is a rather high number.
I agree and I wouldn't go that far; I believe it was just a mistake and for whatever reason in spite of the evidence in front of them that seemed to prove the error was theirs, they chose to uphold the refs decision / time-keeping. Nonetheless it doesn't change the fact that the decision was clearly wrong; the truth of it is that Shin was the winner of that match, not Heidemann. If I was her, that win and the subsequent Silver medal would be pretty hollow, but hey, that's just me.Wtf is wrong with you? We weren't even that good at rowing until the mid-1980s so it isn't even an event we've always dominated at. I think when it comes to rowing we really only remember the highlights like Redgrave's achievements so we tend to think more highly of ourselves than is realistic. There's no way in hell the goal was to get EVERY gold. I heard otherwise. If that is the case then the entire match was fucked up.They don't measure it in fractions. Its seconds only.
The 15-year old British boy didn't start the clock.
I'm not quite sure what you mean. They state that it's a question of fact (or rather in German I'd use the word "Tatsachenentscheidung", decision of fact), that's their official justification for dismissing the appeal. The only time where she could've made a difference is in the moment the judge reset the clock and - according to German sites, I'll see after lunch, probably later because I really have some mathematical articles to read, if I can find some English ones - she agreed there to keep fighting (or "re-fight" that one second).
First time watching Fencing. Is it common for fencers to constantly cheer as if they got the point when they didn't?
They should've noticed that in the best case the one second left stood for 1.9 seconds, in the worst case it went on a lot longer. They're not new to the sport. Maybe they didn't notice the reason for this, but at the very least they should've asked for an explanation at the time the clock was "reset".
.
Is there anything special about a 4th set?
I'm assuming it's like other sports where they try to influence decisions.
or they actually thought they scored
Second gold! Well done Hamish and Eric, although it was completely expected.
Ahead of Australia now too.
what countries could be considered the biggest losers regarding medals?
I've noticed the table and Argentina hasn't won a single one, any color.
Brazil and Mexico have 4 each and Colombia and Venezuela have 3 each.
Well, those are in fact the only 4 countries in latinamerica with medals, I guess that part of the world as a whole is having a mediocre showing these olympic games.
I've read dozens of articles about the incident.
Not ONE states that the reason the appeal was rejected was because she appealed at the wrong time. In fact they accepted the appeal, but upheld the original result. They didn't reject the appeal itself. They took the South Korean team's appeal cash and even announced it to the audience.
Since you've said that hundreds of relevant articles were posted, why don't you link me one? Preferably quote the piece of the article that states it.
Also, few people are stating that she was "deliberately" screwed over. We're contesting ElTropo's claim that she was at fault because she supposedly appealed it at the wrong time.

Your salty tears will make a most excellent seasoning for my fush and chups. This is simply depressing.
An English article please. I think German articles may be biased...ElTropo means this article: http://www.volksblatt.at/index.php?id=97237&MP=61-9400
It's in German but oh well, they are basically arguing that Korea accepted "to fight out" the last second because they didnt deny the "Prêt?" (ready?) question by the referee.
I'd suggest that we simply drop this argument now, i mean it's just fencing.![]()
Katherine Grainger is up soon in the rowing for Team GB.
3 silvers in the last 3 Olympics so hopefully this time it's gold.
Now this boat is a favourite!
