why aren't they trying to come up with a compromise? like (A) leaving some people on the beach in shifts with a signal fire while the rest stay in the caves or (B) organize a train of people that transport water from the water source to the beach, with shifts that change daily?

IMO...almost bests Locke as the most interesting back story. Really awesome stuff...totally didn't see it coming.

The schism had to occur...interesting way for it to do so. The second Kate kind of questioned Jack, and combined with the large amount of flirting in the episode, it was obvious she'd stay on the beach. On the whole, should be interesting to see how the development of the two societies differs in the end. And the song at the end? PURE Abrams...I mean, that was an Alias outro. Old song, grainy quality, fade outs of characters thinking...love it.

Yeah, I'm a little puzzled about why there was never any talk of setting up shifts to sit on the beach. I mean, it seems pretty obvious the living and water situation is a bit easier in the valley, but keeping shifts on the beach seems like such an obvious thing I'm a bit annoyed it wasn't even mentioned.

LoL last week Tvio cut off the end of the show, yesterday I got a Tvio email saying that some shows will be running a little longer then usual....all ABC shows and Tivo has adjusted to it. Unfortunatly Tvio hasn't adjusted the same way to South Park or Reno 911.

I mean, it seems pretty obvious the living and water situation is a bit easier in the valley, but keeping shifts on the beach seems like such an obvious thing I'm a bit annoyed it wasn't even mentioned.

I think the costant trekking through the jungle would be quite the task, plus, it would be a logistical nightmare in many ways...and would you trust someone to actually call back to the others? If some guy comes by in a small boat, they'll run when they get the chance, and send other help for the others...and what if it never comes?
