This game's weapons make you a force of nature.

85, certainly beloved by fans.

They had the opportunity to tamper with powers, spells etc. and stuck to their guns, with the guns. This is just a very fun, crazy game and the weapon wheel is perfect.

Every kill feels personal, like you're connected to the enemies who are a treat to kill.

Work was done on the story, there's a complete story here, the cinematics, the cutscenes are great and I'm very impressed by the graphics, the beasts you slay, the environments are good.

You could finish Doom Dark Ages in a gaming binge weekend marathon, or a couple days but I've taken it day by day character by chapter.

If we remember, Doom eternal came out during Covid real weird times and was memorable, with its demon realms, super shotguns and also 2016 during the rise of trump we had Doom return (85 on metacritic) so the series is having a bit of support for the last 10 years.

Honestly this game is open world, but you can play it linear, it's open world is kinda just a field battle ground and different from exploring a world in assassin's creed or Zelda, everything works and it's a pure shooter.

What did GAF think of Doom Dark Ages now that the dust has settled (review bombing, sales sucking, game pass drama etc.)?

I would say it's open world, like how Halo 3 was. You can tackle a mission from any angle but your end goal is always accomplished. I personally love this game and all the other Doom games as well.

It sucked. I dont need to write 1000 words to say all that because it's covered in the many other threads that have already been posted.
As respected as Neogaf is I thought they were beyond the cultural hating norms, "it sucked" bro your post looks like something on resetera, and those threads don't highlight anything on doom the dark ages

Beautiful post, it's amazing how effective the areas in doom are that give you the ability to tuck your gun away and than explode in the open.

Such a massive let down after 2016 and Eternal. I think it's mainly held back by the shield and the muted medieval aesthetic. It'd have done better with more Hell.

I will say there is that classic Doom vibe that they can and should continue with, just sans shield and the kookie medieval crap.

I'm a Doom noob, but I'm enjoying it. Seems pretty long too. Some of the story can be cheesy, but some of it is awesome.

Feels like ID and Platinum Games got together to make a FPS. Parries, counters, bullet hell, Panzer Dragoon-ish sections all mixed in with top tier FPS shooting and tech. It's a good time. If you keep one foot in Japanese games and one foot in western games, I would think you'd likely love it.

I shared my thoughts in long form in the other threads, but Dark Ages is disappointing, but still an awesome game.
It's current gen only, yet looks worse than the previous games which is the opposite of what you could expect from id.

Every kill feels personal, like you're connected to the enemies who are a treat to kill.
And it's a hard disagree here. Go play Eternal or 2016 especially and you will realize that the above statement is true there, but in Dark Ages not at all. Half the enemies are just cannon fodder who almost fall to pieces by just looking at them.
