Mafia: The Old Country Announced | Gamescom 2024

Cretinously credulous
I'd rather be tortured listening to Nazi march songs than to a cringy mix of English and abused Italian expressions like "mamma mia" and "si capisce".

Yeah that's hard pass for me.

Really looking forward to seeing more of this.

Just finished Definitive Edition. Hadn't played Mafia since the original released on PC. Really great remake of a game that still holds up in every aspect.

Plaything through the second game now.

Prequel, 1900, Sicily.
I expected 1970, Las Vegas but this will work, hopefully!
I’m happy it’s a prequel and that it’s Sicilian.

I think Las Vegas and the 70s are both boring, and would have been an immediate skip from me just like Mafia 3. You couldn’t pay me to play Mafia 3.

IMO, Mafia movies/games are best set in 1920s-1950 New England and Italy.

Mafia 2 is one of my favorite games of all time so I’m really excited for the new one.

I love Mafia 3, but this franchise needs to stay linear with a beautiful old city as the backdrop. It’s what it’s been known for since it’s inception and it should go back to staying that way.

Good to see Hangar 13 realizing this.

No, I'm merely suggesting that a Casino like, open-world mobster game set in 1970s Las Vegas sounds fucking amazing.
I thought You were comparing the two, lol.
I would love to play a Mafia game where everything started, and I hope it's going to be amazing.

Careful posting stuff from that person, he's a full on fanboy and has been known to twist and edit words to make quotes look more favorable.

Oh, truly? Wow. I had no idea. It's the first time I'm seeing a post by him and it appeared on my "for you" tab on Twitter.

I’ll never forget the level of immersion the OG mafia gave me back in the day. Role playing organized crime in Italy feels criminally underutilized and I’m stoked.

I was blown away by how good the voice acting and music was, It was such an immersive game for it's time... I was so happy when the remake was announced and it just wasn't the same with the new VAs and "action sequences".

Hopefully The old country catches that Brazilian Mafia Magic, I mean Italian.

I think most of the blokes who worked on the OG Mafia are working on Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 atm, It shows because that series has the same level of immersion and detail.

the first one was pretty good for what it was back in 2002 but 2,3 and the remake are all pretty average at best. Hopefully this will be good, but i dunno i feel like if you dont have any gameplay to show then just dont show nothing.

yep. I am kinda tired of NY guido culture, it's almost comical at this point. I'm italian decent but from California and when I visit the east coast I have to make fun of them because it's so ridiculous and extra.

Anyways is the brazilian a reference to this thread or some overarching meme I haven't heard yet.

Hangar 13 for those who don't know is former 2k Czech + California office. 2k Czech is former Illusion Softworks who built first Mafia.

Sicilians were generally highly religious in that era, including mafiosi (at least outwardly). It would be very unusual if there wasn't a recurring theme of Catholic iconography, religious rites, church-ordained festivals, etc in the game.
is it true that the Mafia, although it emerged in Sicily was started by 3 Spanish Knights that traveled their way back when....Osso, Mastrosso, Cargagnosso?

is this accurate

I had the chance to lead a school project in a hospital in Palermo, Sicily almost 20 years ago. It was such an amazing place with tiny crowded streets and buildings/architecture that were several hundred years old.

I remember thinking while I was that it reminded me a lot of the ancient city in the first Assassin's Creed game, which really stood out at the time for making you feel immersed in an ancient city.

An immersive 1900s-1920s Sicily could be a really memorable gaming experience.

Respect!

I'm trying to have an experience like that after I graduate university.

I like to see gaming trying different settings for once. Not everything needs to be in some city in the United States. Its cool to see the team step out of that comfort zone with this genre

I loved the old style mafia games but they should have done 80s mafia era. 1900 feels really old and there wont be good weapons or vehicles to roam around.

You should give it a go. The story missions play out in a linear way like the first couple games. You can ignore most of the side missions outside of what is necessary to take over the neighborhoods.
