Woah, i'm in hall of shame?
GTO End
This is not my first time reading it, though thanks to google translate level of localization by the 'publisher' (which i later find out to be bootlegged), this might as well count as me reading it for the first time.
Onizuka, a jerkass who decide to become a teacher after an encounter with a student who have an affair with her teacher. What start off as impure thought turn into something else, as Onizuka become a teacher that teach his student that the world is not all about having good grade. He teach them life and way to enjoy school.
This manga discuss some prevalent japanese education issues, like corrupt teacher, bullying, society pressure to get into great school to ensure better future, and all that other problems that can still be found today.
Onizuka is not a perfect teacher or a model citizen by any mean. He is an idiot, suck at studying, using a fake to pass teacher qualification, steal some porn, zero fuck given to law, and he did other criminal activity during his spare time. What make him unique is his approach to handle the students problem. His approach is close to what Groucho Marx saying, When you're in jail, a good friend will be trying to bail you out. A best friend will be in the cell next to you saying, 'Damn, that was fun'.
A great manga. I found the sequel to be inferior (still good though), and Toru Fujisawa art somehow become too simple...(Yoshikawa got bishonen'd during the later part).
Currently reading the GTO Early year as well, which feature Onizuka and Danma as a badass delinquent who have love troubles.
