Mario Kart Switch: all Wii U + new tracks, characters, battle mode, < 3 mos fr launch

So you could keep waiting for the games to come out?

I'm not seeing much reason to buy a Switch at launch. By the time Zelda is out you should be able to get a deal on Mario.

Look at it this way, you'll be waiting for games to come out either way so why not play a brand new Mario in the meantime?

This is kind of a weird post. Are people not allowed to be excited to buy a video game systems day 1?

We haven't seen most of the reasons to buy it at launch yet, we're mostly going off pieced together rumors. I sincerely doubt anyone's ability to find a deal on the new Mario too, given Nintendo's historic legacy pricing.

So, so far, 3D Mario is the only true new Switch game. That sucks if it's the only new title, but it's enough for me to buy it. It won't be though, but I'm a bit concerned about the amount of ports vs new games that we know of so far.

rumors also call out Retro's new game, and Pikmin 4 in year 1.
so those, plus Mario, Zelda, Splatoon, and Kart is exceptional from 1 developer (and there may be smaller projects shows in Jan as well for all we know)

I remember how adamantly Nintendo fans kept insisting Nintendo would fix the battle mode in the original game via DLC. lol

Now you'll have to rebuy the whole game instead, to finally have that glaring flaw fixed. Bummer.

but a primary MP racer does? MK will sell more than Splatoon as well, so its stronger as a standalone title.

You're being crazy, Mario Kart makes way more sense as the pack in, and several portable Mario Karts have done very well and been adored as portable games.

Yeah MK will sell more on its own, but being a pack in provides a super enticing package for families to buy for one flat price and know they don't need anything outside of that box to take it home and enjoy it.

They haven't even officially announced a single Switch game apart from Zelda BotW.

Do you have a link handy to the Retro or Pikmin rumor? Thanks. And I completely agree we will absolutely see some other and/or smaller projects also -- both at the January event and at E3.

I'm confident we will get many more non-port games. This is just what we have information on so far. January 12th is the day to learn about new games for Switch. I am confident Mario is not the only non-port game to be shown. Nintendo specifically said they were holding back the switch launch specifically so they can have a steady stream of releases after launch, and I don't believe that will mean enhanced ports only.

I want to say that they PROBABLY want to avoid having Mario Kart as a pack-in for the switch BECAUSE it made so much sense to be a pack-in thatit's been THE pack-in for 3DS and Wii U bundles for the last year? I get the sense that maybe they want to stray away from that.

That's because they won't say a goddamn thing officially until January and insiders really can't get that information fast enough.

Unless you're the countless millions who didn't buy it the first time on Wii U, so it's a new game if they're Switch owners.

I've heard 16, but not sure if that is the final number for new tracks.
I think 16 is most realistic. It took them a year just to do 16 tracks as DLC.

Now we're working with 2 years or so + new characters + a real Battle Mode.

Do you know if they plan on changing the UI's and menu to give it a different feel from Mario Kart 8?

The DLC had 9 new tracks and 7 retro tracks. I don't think a full set of 16+16 is out of the question, but I wouldn't really count on it.

And it will release within 3 months of launch.

P.S. if you didn't see the other thread, we're now looking at:

Splatoon packed in in deluxe model at launch
3D Mario Switch at launch
Skyrim at launch
MK within 3 months of launch
Zelda several months after launch
Smash at some point not at launch

(Presumably IMO other title(s) at launch and plenty throughout the year.)

I still read mortal kombat:-(

Fuck balloons, I want a proper shine thief.

All the retro tracks in MK8 are made from the ground up tho, so they're pretty much like new tracks based on old tracks, it's not like on MKWii where they just ported tracks from DD.

I never said the retro tracks were low-effort. Just giving context to the amount of content in the previous DLC.

Still, 32 tracks+16 DLC+16 new would be 64 tracks, just bonkers! Imagine that in the All Cup Tour mode.

When you say 16, does that mean 16 brand-new tracks, or 16 tracks including some retro tracks?

I wouldn't be surprised if the answer is ¯\_(ツ)_/¯, but it's an important distinction.

I'm in either way, especially if there's a traditional battle mode.

I'd assume 16 new-new tracks, but can't say with confidence one way or the other.

Thanks for your input, we truly appreciate it. Hopefully we'll get a more finite number of new-new & new-retro tracks come January.

Also, if I may ask, did you hear anything on the Smash 4 front (Ex: New characters, stages, modes, if the Corrin Amiibo is also being held back alongside his fellow Amiibo-lacking DLC characters, etc.)?

Thanks for your info Nate!

Oh sorry, I thought you meant something else, my mistake.

Yes!!! That's going to be insane! I imagine they're gonna keep adding DLC to it throughout the Switch's lifetime as well.

I'd be down at $40. Anything above $50 is way too much.

40 would be great, but at the end of the day, 10 isn't gonna break the deal for me, I love MK, especially MK8.

40 would be more fair of them tho, unless it really does have 32 tracks that aren't from MK8, then 50 would be justified.

Haven't heard much about Smash. My patience is wearing thin as I need Corrin amiibo to complete my Fire Emblem amiibo collection.

I guess Nintendo's actually keeping a tight lid on Smash 4 Switch leaks (aside from its existence).

As for me, I'm anxiously waiting for Cloud, Corrin, & Bayonetta's Amiibos.

Think it's a good strategy for Nintendo. Making the most out of the fact that the Wii U didn't sell great by offering a solid launch lineup for those that didn't buy a Wii U. It also let's their devs get up to speed and develop new tools for the switch that could make development of their next games faster.

Only downside is for those that already own the games and don't feel like revisiting for extra content. Nintendo could potentially take those resources and develop new titles (probably not more than one or two, since starting from scratch vs adding on to a completed game is a lot bigger investment). Overall, probably a smart allocation of resources.

16 new tracks along with the 48 we already have plus a fresh battle mode is well worth $60 to me. Not to mention the new characters too

They could also add in new modes that have minimum dev time, like regrouping the various tracks, doing Double Dash's 'every single track in a row' mode, etc.

I did not miss battle mode, and it was my favorite mode from this IP MK8 racing was just to fun to stay mad at the battle mode. I can't wait to see if they deliver something fun for Batt;e Mode 2.0

I've heard 16, but not sure if that is the final number for new tracks.

Expected, really.
8 new tracks would be too light of new content for current Wii U owners to even look at the port while 32 tracks literally stand as a brand new sequel on their own.

64 tracks total is nothing to sneeze at tbh. Hopefully they give us the option to select the tracks we actually want instead of 3 options + random on online mode tho.
I swear we play Big Blue or Baby Park every 2 races.

I love Mario Kart 8, definitely my favourite game in the series, but I don't want to pay for it twice. It would be awesome if Nintendo has some sort of "Upgrade" deal for people who already own Mario Kart 8 and its DLC, but I'm not expecting it.

I'm not seeing much reason to buy a Switch at launch. By the time Zelda is out you should be able to get a deal on Mario.

A deal on a nintendo game within 6 months of release ?

LOL that was a good joke ! xD
