Marvel going street level w/ Netflix (Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist)

TM is a mutant, so no. And as much as I like her, I'd rather cast a Greek looking lady as Elektra.

But they can use mutants in the MCU as long as they're historically mostly part of someone else's mythology, right? (and make 'em not mutants in the MCU version obviously). Like Quicksilver and SW?

Either way, I'd rather see her as Elektra too.

Alexandra Daddario....
I already cast her as Hawkgirl.

Can you give an example of a Greek-looking lady?

But just the stereotypical Mediterranean look, really.

Dark hair, tan but not overtly dark skin, maybe a peculiar nose.

I'd really love for a civilian Elektra cameo toward the end of season one, and maybe the could make a season two about her story.

Showrunner Steven S. DeKnight talks about Daredevil premiere at the Guardians of the Galaxy premiere.

"We're going for a very gritty, 1970's New York feel. We love the idea of beauty in the decay of the city, and Hell's Kitchen being a place that is both horrible and beautiful at the same time. That's why Matt Murdock loves it so much and wants to protect it."

Sounds cool.

I hope it's like this concept trailer that Joe Carnahan released, the NC17 one:

Nothing surprising here, but... sigh. I'm hoping that the writers will use the destruction wrought by the Chitauri invasion as an explanation for why this bears absolutely no resemblance to the "gentrified"-would-be-a-massive-understatement reality of Hell's Kitchen circa 2015, but I suspect that's just too clever for them.

I expect Daredevil, at the very least, to turn out pretty well, but as an actual New Yorker, this clinging to a vision of HK as Frank Miller saw it in 1981 is something I'll have a hard time getting past. It's one thing in a comic (though Marvel's more recent street-level books have finally been moving past that depiction), but in a live-action series filmed in the real NYC, it's harder to swallow.

(And to be fair, it's not just HK; current-day Manhattan is so thoroughly gentrified that it's hard to name any neighborhood that seems like a natural fit for most of the street-level characters.)

I mean, some areas in midtown between 10th and 12th Aves are pretty sketch at night... ;)

That's literally the best I can do. You're completely right.

I hope it isn't set in the 70s

FYI, the SDCC Marvel Television panel is at 3PM PT/6PM ET today, so there might be some interesting news coming from that. I say "might," because the official descriptions only mention Agents of SHIELD and Agent Carter, so for whatever strange reason, they may be saving further announcements about the Netflix shows for a later date.

Not bad.

Omari Hardwick is another good choice if Power doesn't work out. He's charismatic, has the build and has decent screen presence too.

Terry Crews and Michael Jai White are probably out though, either of those would be fantastic. Michael especially.
Sorry he's BP in my eyes not Cage.

I hope so because it doesn't seem like that invasion affected any civilians day to day.

And that really is worse than Man of Steel's carnage for me. Aliens wreck up New York, and then we're told 'everything changed' but never given any evidence it even made people concerned for a day.

Omari Hardwick is my first choice. Perfect blend. People want Crews, but he's a bit on the beefy side.

Maybe NYCC...
A guy can hope, we have such terrible timing with most things being on-air or too far away

Being on different networks is probably why.

How is that worse. A large portion of the city is destroyed in MOS and at the end some dude is trying to get a chick to go to a baseball game?

In Avengers they tried to keep the damage to a corridor of the city. Successfully mind you. They showed an aftermath, Tony had PTSD. New York was mentioned numerous times in SHEILD.

MOS not even a word or a panning shot showing reconstruction. Or even Supes helping out! Nothing.

Yeah I've been thinking the same thing. Either it goes period piece or they move DD to Flatbush or something. Even Harlem is gentrified.

Okay...

Firstly, I said civilians seemingly weren't affected. They know aliens exist, and by all accounts no one cares. Even the kid from Iron Man 3 has a 'meh' attitude. If none of those people care, it does negatively stamp on the concept of a 'shared continuity' because NO ONE should be that blase about parts of New York being trashed by robot alien thingies.

Secondly, the assumption is they kept it contained to that pocket of New York. But even if they had, it still got absolutely trashed. And I don't recall seeing any Avengers doing clean-up either.

Thirdly, until BvS we cannot gauge the follow-up of the attack. Because we don't know whether that Lex's platform, whether that brings Bats/WW into the film etc. While they should have put more into MOS, that's hindsight thinking.

Finally, if they go the 'New York got screwed' route it provides a logic for Hells Kitchen looking like a Miller comic. And why they'd look to Daredevil. I mean currently The Avengers exist, so there has to be a reason for Matthew Murdock to feel like Hells Kitchen needs a protector. Granted that makes me wonder why The Avengers don't go in and save the day, given they're meant to be heroes, but he... the MCU has plenty of 'where are they?' holes as it is, what's a few more?

yeah Michael Jai White would be the perfect Luke Cage...oh the ass whoopins that would ensue...but Tyler Perry ain't having that, and he is bronze tiger already.

yeah, it's an odd predicament. Hell's Kitchen is where DD needs to be, but he's probably doing more lawyering than crime fighting there nowadays.

maybe he commutes to brownsville

There are Zero holes. Why does every hero have to be everywhere all the time?
