She/He was created in order to provide "spare parts" for Sheperd during their revival in the Lazarus Project. Eventually Illusive Man dumped them and it has gone rogue
She mainly thinks that the current Sheperd is inferior because it is burdened by the "trust" and "friendship" of her comrades.
Casino heist angle so far. lol I just strutted along with Ashley. Felt like a damn celebrity. I wonder what would happen if you picked Garrus to come with you.
He was talking about how he was looking forward to meeting with me afterward or something. And how everyone was looking at him and he overheard someone saying "how did a Turian like that end up with a human girl like Shepard

Yeah, this sounds incredibly fun. I know you're using femshep, but I can't help but think meer might do this one better. He's fucking hilarious when he is asshole shepherd.
If I do decide to get this, I'll have to wait for stupid Grace Chen time, and horrible PSN download speeds.
I haven't purchased any of the single player DLC for mass effect 3, but I am really tempted to get this because it does look like just a stupid fan service side quest...I've given up on mass effect 3 because I hated it so much, but I didn't want to hate to it. If this is good, it'll cheer me up.
So is this worth buying? I mean I'm more or less done with Mass Effect (and Bioware) but this is tempting due to getting to see our old team mates again (Wrex!)
Man, with this purchase I will have owned the complete mass effect series. Its the only series that I have followed to the point of buying all the dlc. Gonna go home and do one final definitive playthrough of all the games on insanity with my sentinel. Then another with my vanguard. Then another with my adept.

Does the Lancer recharge just like the Prothean and Collector weapons? I mean that it recharge quickly a few seconds after you stop shooting and if you don't stop, you have to go through some long reload animation and not some overheating mechanic like ME1?

SPOILERS ARE SPOILERS SO DONT HIGHLIGHT IF YOU DONT WANNA BE SPOILED
-- PREMISE / NARRATIVE --
Basically this is a character centric downloadable content. The whole entire theme, including the story, is themed around companionship. It's not sappy at all, but I will warn everyone that it is incredibly cheesy and over the top
Every single character gets some time to shine with unique dialogue. You get to take almost all of your crew with you and they are always battling or somehow involved in the action / happenings in the background. This means there is rather witty back and forth banter between EVERYONE in the cast throughout the entire downloadable content. It's quite good. The standout for me was Glyph, who has some great lines in this. And yes, I'm talking about Liara's little robot.
The overall tone is actually really good because it
fools the player to make a major plot twist towards the end of the story much more of a surprise than you would normally expect
.
There is a new character introduced - Maya Brookes. She is great looking. I love the way she is presented and she is rather cute and a clumsy office worker who is thrust into the field without any prior training. Her general story (which is elaborated on towards the end of the game) is that
she actually worked for Ceberus during Mass Effect 2 and collated the dossiers to recruit everyone during the Collector Threat. She was disenchanted with the focus on recruiting non-humans and she herself was the one who woke up or kept Sheperd's evil clone alive. She's not really clumsy - it's a ruse
Regarding the antagonist -
yes, it is an evil clone of Sheperd. The story is that Illusive Man commissioned her creation during Mass Effect 2 in order to harvest spare parts should the real Shepard need them. Eventually, somehow (it is explained in the DLC) this clone is awakened and wants to become the real Shepard as he/she believes herself to be a better war hero as she is not bogged down with trust and whatnot with a crew
. It's very tropey, it's VERY done to death and this is even more apparent in the final scene.
The story culminates in a major decision to be made -
to kill the clone or not, however both result in the clone's death. It's rather poorly implemented
A vague list of the scenarios / places you'll visit in the DLC (note - all locations are unique and not reused previously)
* A showdown at a Sushi Restaurant
* A stealthy run through the lower wards
* A showdown at a used car dealership (well, hovercar)
* An Oceans 11 style Casino heist complete with distractions, social stealth and the like
* The Citadel Archives - including holo tapes of major events and explanations of some backstory of the universe (major wars etc.)
* A firefight on the Citadel docks
* A firefight INSIDE the Normandy CIC
* A two phase boss battle in the Normandy Cargo Bay - one of which has the Normandy flying over the citadel while the cargo door is open (visually very compelling)
Following completion of the main storyline - the player can visit the casino to indulge in gambling mini-games or arcade games. Additionally, further interactions can be had with characters experienced, a party can be prepared for EVERYONE you've met thus far and a combat simulator is also available for the player to, well, fuck around in.
Oh, and anyone who loves Wrex, you've got a great dose of him here. Take him with you on EVERY mission. This is BioWare's way of making it up to you. I've never been a fan but now I love the guy, I can't imagine anyone being disappointed with his implementation.
+ Doesn't take itself too seriously
+ A nice mix of action, stealth and socialising
+ The non-action segments were fantastic, very reminiscent of Kasumi's DLC in ME2.
- Cheesy and/or weird and out of place plot won't be for everyone
- Lack of proper and impactful choice (as per with the series)
- It is undeniable some will feel their faves weren't included enough
-- VISUALS / PRESENTATION --
I don't want to talk about this too long as it's a bit spoilery to discuss the locations but WOW, the artistic team really outdid themselves here. Easily some of the best environments we've seen in the entire franchise thus far.
I said it before but BioWare really made me feel like I wanted to go and live on the citadel, sit at a restaurant / bar / whatever and just stare out into the skybox and watch things happen. I know people rag on BioWare for their storytelling at times but they create really believable and atmospheric worlds and this Citadel DLC is by no means an exception. Every environment really just draws you in and I seriously stopped at almost every window to just look around into the distance.
Lots of colours, lots of neon and fantastic use of lighting to convey proper mood - especially in locations like the
casino
and
your own apartment
.
Framerate kind of drops badly during the final battle, but when you see what's going on it kind of makes sense (of course, this doesn't make it okay)
+ Most visually interesting environments
+ Atmospheric and alive worlds
+ Well placed and thought out lighting
- Odd framerate drops during final battle
- DLC kind of blows it's load with colour in opening missions
-- DESIGN / GAMEPLAY --
The shooting remains the same - nothing can really be said here. There are some stealth segments however they are optional - the weapon you are provided with is powerful enough (albeit low on ammo) to take care of enemies with a stealthy approach or a full on, no holds barred approach.
The most interesting aspect to the DLC is the
casino heist
level. This is where Sheperd and one other squadmate must assist a secondary character in their task. This is not a combat level - instead they must
mingle with the Citadel's high society to find out clues, distract guards (or send your "date" to distract them for you) and subvert security systems
. As I mentioned previously, it's VERY reminiscent of Kasumi's DLC in Mass Effect 2 and feels like a more substantial and natural progression from that. These atmospheric moments are really where Mass Effect shines.
Between missions, the player visits their apartment which acts as a stand in for the Normandy, with most of your crew being around there. You can interact with them (in fact, you have to in order to advance the story) however these interactions are the "Press A To Hear What They Have To Say" interactions rather than the ones where the conversation wheel pops up.
-- SOUND --
The soundtrack for Citadel is easily the most eclectic of all the soundtracks (which I have purchased through Amazon previously). There are a huge range of tracks and they are very distinct from the other offerings previously available. The apartment itself has a stereo system which blares discoteque beats which serve as the perfect backdrop to your party, while moments where the characters are discussing the more mysterious aspects of the plot are complemented with very intriguing and thought provoking music.
It's INCREDIBLY well done and I love how different this is. It's almost like it's a different composer - and given the very different tone for this DLC, it seems fitting that the score is different too.
Maya Brooks' voice actress is (I am assuming) new and does a fantastic job too. I really liked her character, she was cute and adorable. The whole cast returns for this downloadable content and do a great job at cracking their one liners and bantering between one another.
-- VERDICT --
Buy Mass Effect 3: Citadel if
You enjoy the characters developed throughout the franchise
You want more Mass Effect
You've been yearning for another downloadable content in similar vein to Kasumi's
You need some more Wrex in your life
You want to see what the writers can do with a very different tone
DON'T Buy Mass Effect 3: Citadel if
You've already made up your mind about the franchise and it's direction
You want more closure or more backstory (ala Leviathan)
You don't have a sense of a humour
You think BioWare can't write a character to save their life
You still can't get over the fact that the ending isn't what you wanted
the actor recorded his lines before his death in real life
Regarding the party you can throw for your guests, it is only available following the completion of the campaign.
I will spoiler this just in case.
Joker and Glyph insist that Shepard has a party. You need to be sure to say you will and prepare it.
Glyph secures funds for you to go and buy the party supplies needed. You can then send out invites via your private terminal, and select the "type" of party.
When the actual party is happening, you can change the tone of the party if you want, or you can begin playing card games with your guests or preparing snacks for them.
At the end, you all take a group photo on the couch.
It's a cute and fitting send off to all the characters, and it makes me sad this is probably the last we've seen of all of them.
Anyone else here also play WoW and notices how all the single player DLCs of ME3 were release the same day as the 5.0, 5.1 and 5.2 patches of WoW? I mean, that can't be a coincidence. I never know what to play first between the 2.
Nevermind got it working now. Origin had a brain fart or something for a while there. Downloading Citadel and Omega now. I suppose I should play Omega first.
1) Is there some tool that lets me import a manufactured Shepard into ME3? I lost my saves across all Mass Effect games but I'd still like to play with all the proper decisions I remembered making. I don't care if I have to pay.
2) How far do you have to play with a fresh save to play any of the DLC? The only DLC I've played is From Ashes. I'm hoping you don't have to beat the game or get halfway through to play Omega, Leviathan or Citadel.
