It's odd that this week the Mass Effect Trilogy was on sale in PSN this week and might be followed by a sequel reveal next week. The timing is certainly interesting.

"Contact" suggests that it would be a prequel, set when humans first encountered aliens, namely the Turians and went to war with them.

Or... this game is going to be a complete reboot, and the lore you know won't be the same. The planets, the races, the Relays, the Citadel will be there, but the lore will be different, which means the first contact with aliens could be an entirely different thing.

It's 2014, so they aren't allowed to call it ME4. There are only a few choices in this day and age:
Mass Effect: Origins
Mass Effect: Retribution
Mass Effect: Ascension
Mass Effect: Revelations
Mass Effect: Absolution
Mass Effect: Awakening

That's it. Those are the rules.

You forgot Mass Effect: Rock Hard...because that is what I will be when they put up the trailer...

"First Contact" is arguably the most common theme of science fiction ,confined to no particular time period, simply referring to the initial meeting between species. In the Mass Effect universe that has taken place many times, and could happen quite comfortably after the trilogy.

Who the hell started this stupid exclusive rumor? Mass Effect has been multiplatform since ME2, or hell... even ME1 if you wanna count the PC version that released later(not to mention PS3).

Please be like the good parts of ME3 (because when that was good, it was amazing) with the exploration of ME1, please be a sequel please have better main writters, please...

I seriously doubt they would reboot that universe so early when they spent so much time and money building it.

I'm cautiously optimistic, but I'll probably be buying this barring a huge disaster. I don't like the premise of having it at first contact, but we'll see how they're going to keep it exciting.

I got them a title suggestion.

Mass Effect: Don't fuck up how Shepard looks and DLC name Mass Effect: Don't create a Dante controversy.

I have been seeing some major spin offs with other franchises and the last thing that I want is to create a ME contemporary/modern look bullshit. What I would love to see though is the same formula applied to franchises such as The Witcher and Metal Gear Solid where the main character grows old and things around him reflect the maturity and wisdom of his age.

Why people want this game to be exclusive for Xbox One ?

Exclusive or not you will be able to play it on Xbox One so please...

List wars, mainly. Also, it's like last year with people assuming the Xbox division has infinite money and that any and all third party games are X1 exclusives until proven otherwise. It's ridiculous really, and I'd have hoped that we wouldn't repeat that this year but here we are.

No way EA makes the same mistake twice, especially after seeing WD sell like it did on PS4.

Shepherd is done his story is over if it's a prequel the best you can hope for is a cameo. Sequel won't use him. His story is done.

It's just another aspect of console wars, nothing more.

It makes no sense, making Mass Effect 4 exclusive to Xbox would be like making Final Fantasy XV or Metal Gear Solid V exclusive to Playstation. Those series are already associated with their respective console, making them exclusive isn't going to magically triple their sales.

OH man. Hope they announce it as a reboot. The story has gone to hell in ME3, and I'd hate to see the devs waste time trying to work around that mess.

Well, I suppose having something to add to the list wars can be considered a small victory. It doesn't make any sense though, after EA made an effort to build a following for the series on the PS3.

Could be called Mass Effect: Genesis if it were to be a prequel. I really hope it isn't but if it aids the design to be more exploratory for the end users (akin to ME1) then I am all for it.

Hoping for a sequel. First contact has been covered and would be hard to really do much interesting with happening only 30 years before ME1. Now a prequel set 50,000 years ago that would be ambitious....

This would seriously make my E3 after all the disappointing announcements we had last week (no FFV, KH3, Media Molecule, Guerilla, etc.).

They already use Genesis as the title for ME2 prequel interactive comic.

Interesting. I was sure they would hold off on ME to give full attention to DAI. I still don't think we'll see a whole lot, just a teaser and some basic info. Weren't they still battling it out over the final plot detail just a week ago? I honestly might skip it if its a prequel though. There's nothing in the past and it would simply be to ignore the ending of ME3.

Mass Effect originally debuted on the Xbox as an exclusive / timed exclusive. So they have history there.

This is a new trilogy so they won't be upsetting anyone THAT muchy as far as being able to "continue the story"

I can't think of any other third party game that the exclusive could even be outside of something completely off the radar and unannounced.
