Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain |OT2| A Franchise Robbed Of Its Future

Abort mission and develop the FB MR launcher to the highest possible version. Any vehicle needs two hits and the upgraded version comes with 12 rockets.

But yeah, the tank shell blast radius is terrible and remarkably unfair as walls don't always negate the damage so you never know if you're "safe". Best advice is just to keep moving. Fire a rocket - move to a different position, rinse and repeat.

can't upgrade. Game doesn't let me go back to ACC. Stuck in the mission... not enough money to upgrade...

Well in that case don't forget that you have the option to call in airstrikes. It will prevent an S-rank, but who gives a fuck about that the first time playing. Also, if you didn't equip the Battle Dress you can always request an airdrop of that as well. Backside of the palace is often a safe place for that, but be aware that soldiers will try to flank you.

Mission 45
If you're not trying for an S rank, you can always call in a sand storm. This will somewhat protect you. Then you can go around and fulton all the vehicles out. This method is still kind of tricky though and you'll have to work out some strategies with the tanks, but it might be better if taking them out with a rocket isn't quite working for you.

mission 45 how do fuck do I beat this ? Seriously has this been play tested ? Who the fuck played this and though " sure, this is fair shit. Challenged and balanced. Go ahead, ready the press "

this is utter BS :
the battle tanks have near instant, probably homing, INSANE area of damage, one shot killer. Fuck this shit. ANd they need 5 homing multi rockets to die when poping my head for a second is potentially killing me. Of course they stay outside lock on range but lock on takes forever anyway... And they always know your position.

Utter, utter shit Kojima. Worst I've seen in years

took a few tries,
but my tactic was fultoning every vehicle that came close. the last 3-4 tanks with that gunship were a pain. call in air support if you can. for the rest you fire a rocket and change position.

Worst mission in the game by far.
The tanks in that mission are indestructible. I've called in bombardment on some tanks and still have to use 3 more rockets to destroy the thing. Like WTF!

This game really does let you do anything! lol

A lot of people probably already discovered this but I'll share anyway.

My predicament: took on a Side Op where I had to extract a prisoner. The base camp where he was being held had four other high ranking soldiers/specialists who I also wanted to extract. The issue was that I was very low on Fulton devices and I wanted to save the rest for another Side Op without returning to Mother Base and the nearest helicopter LZ was +500 meters away. Obviously a 4-seater jeep would've required two trips and I just wasn't about that life so I confiscated a convoy, parked it near a cliff and proceeded to throw each of the four soldiers into the back of the convoy.

The awesome thing that I found was that the game registers them as being "seated" inside a vehicle and so they won't wake up from being knocked out! Drove them all the way to nearest LZ and bam! Creativity rewarded! :p

34DrXGU.jpg

And an even funnier thing happened when I was driving to the LZ... as soon as I exited the Side Op mission area, the prisoner was automatically Fulton'd out of the passenger seat along with two of the soldiers in the rear of the convoy (hence why there are only two soldiers in the screenshot) LOL and none of what was used to Fulton them came from my inventory.

I don't "get" mission 29.

Obviously I can quick time counter their attacks, which seems to leave them open, but not really..? If I whale on them I just hear "ping ping" noises still... On the other hand if I struggle through the menu enough to tell Quiet to fucking attack the area then I see that she seems to be scoring hits against them and health is dropping.

The game is doing a REALLY bad job of telling them what is effective or not.

Also I'm basically just running around getting hit by gunfire the entire time so. It feels like luck if I can get the guys into their CQC counterable blade attack. Sometimes they just hang back and pepper at me with shots even if I run at them.

I'm hating this mission right now because it doesn't do a good job of telling you whether what the hell you're supposed to do.

Here's how I did it:
Bring D-Walker with upgraded Chaingun; if you break their armor and aim for their heads, they go down REALLY quickly.
Just avoid the fog or D-Walker becomes useless.
Also feel free to bring a Tank and/or high-powered weapons.
Easy S-Rank.

D-Walker's chaingun is pretty ridiculous. lol

Just as a sidenote here, you can request a supply drop to replenish your Fulton ammo count at any time, anywhere.

Yeah I knew that but I've also been playing with a personal challenge to never request supply drops. :p

Trying to play completely OSP and just manage the gear I bring in with me.

Fulton'ing vehicles is weird. During the "15 minutes to destroy some tanks" mission, I fulton'd a jeep with a prisoner in the back, and the prisoner didn't register. Not the same thing as yours, but it's just something to mention.

Is there any way to get a new buddy in mission if one has been extracted for their own safety? Mission 28 has done a number on me.

Edit:

It's right in the iDroid menu, I guess I've never used it before.

So how long does it take to process materials? The game is really unclear about this and I'm basically halting all development until I can expand the base. In a few hours of gameplay I haven't seen any change in the number of unprocessed materials.

as a MGS newbie I wasn't sure I would be able to appreciate Phantom Pain without playing most or all of the other games in the series but I loved it...it plays great as a standalone game...some of the background story and character backstory is confusing but overall it's a fantastic game...is there any point in going back and playing the other MGS games released on PC (I guess Revengeance is the only one)?

This completely depends on how many platforms you've built and what the rank of the staff is. Needless to say the more platforms/higher the staff, the faster it goes.

It will still take time though, even when maxed out.

MGSV plays really well in its genre, regardless of story connections or anything.

Revengeance is the same (in its genre). I wouldn't bother with the older games if you're in it for good gameplay and not hungry for more of the story. For reference, with MGSV you basically just played the third entry in the prequel trilogy.

Nice. Happy to know I can choke / knock out an enemy because the first enemy I sneaked up from behind on turned into a disaster as he spotted me, I punched him and like flipped him knocking him out. Then, I carried him to a hidden spot and he woke up. Had to punch him again until I knocked him out again.

The fulton thing I kind of expected but asked anyway since I was able to fulton a plant and a diamond.

Thanks guys. Appreciate the help and info.

Walk slow (just nudge the analog stick) when you're close to prevent enemies from noticing you. I often tranq the already-stunned if I'm scouring an area for too long, since they can wake up on their own.

Also, you can kick stunned/sleeping enemies to wake up them and grab them again for interrogation. I did this when I took out an entire base and couldn't find a prisoner. Ask everybody!

Plants, diamonds, and processed material boxes don't need to be fulton'd. If they did... it would be very hard to make it through an area without alerting enemies. (Fulton'ing isn't invisible, and they can even shoot the balloon)

Yes. It actually takes place after MGS4 IIRC, making it the last game canonically, but it stars a secondary character and plays completely different. It's a fast-paced third-person action title like Bayonetta/Ninja Gaiden/Devil May Cry. It was made by Platinum Games.

MGSV, Revengeance, and I'm guessing the PSP titles have a greater emphasis on gameplay over story.

Does the game ever tell you that you can grind side ops for Chapter 2? Because I had to ask, and everyone else I know had to ask.

stay inside the building on the first floor. stay back and wait for the big one-hit-kill attack. run up and take a shot or two. run back and wait for the one-hit-kill attack. wash, rinse, repeat

Don't use the Killer Bee, use the MR R-Launcher. You have to aim and you'll probably miss a few shots, but it does more damage.

I never got high enough level to unlock the Killer Bee's upgrades. It's not really needed in the game because of the low base damage, which sucks since it's kind of hyped up in the mission where you pick it up.

So I keep seeing that you need to finish Mission 45 to get Mission 46 or something?

I ended up getting Mission 46. But I don't have Mission 45, and I have actually never used Quiet once.

I was hearing things about a true ending. Did I just get it?

The true ending is actually nice. But it leaves me hungry for more...

Yes. 46 is the true ending. But 45 is arguably a better stopping point, though only if you used Quiet all this time because of cutscenes and character development.

I haven't played MGS5 in about a week, but has Konami said anything about maybe patching in a way to not lose any of your buddies?

Right now, no. As far as we know, nothing is planned from Konami and they're already announced ending console development.

I'd imagine PC version will eventually have a mod
where Quiet stays after a particular mission.
. But for the sake of "finishing" the story,
she has to leave. I'm not there yet but it's a gut wrenching emotional scene. It's literally been years since I had a game move me the way that moment did.

Trust no one. Eat steaks.
This game is so difficult to fit into family life once those longer missions come in. After 60hrs I'm only up to Mission 12 (had many attempts as well) bit feels like I need a good 1hr and half to 2hrs to do it properly rather than rush in. It is awesome though.

what I like to do is interrogate the first few enemies (even if I tranq them) to get the location of the target, blueprints, processed materials etc...I then use the 'Hands Up' move to incapacitate them...using that makes them freeze in place forever (or until an enemy spots them or an alert is issued)...tranq'ng or stunning an enemy eventually wears off so the 'Hands Up/Freeze' command is much better

Make sure you tell them to lie down. If you leave them standing they're A) easier to spot by other enemies and B) more likely to see you running about in the distance and call an alert.

There already is a mod for that and has been one for about two weeks now.

I like how most, if not all, of the revisited missions can be cheesed to hell and back.

C2W can be completed without even leaving the chopper (Or even just robbing the two dudes at the outpost of their AKs and unloading on the equipment with them from the ridge), the first two total stealth ones can be defeated with artillery if you don't care about rank, and so on. The bionics engineer one I did with an arty strike, having Quiet go to town, and using the conveniently located mortar on the hill overlooking the base to kill everybody before I moved in.

I would have liked more OSP missions, though. Just have Miller say "something something deniability" to justify why I can't just go in loaded for war.

Why does Quiet never follow me? Even when I point her a place to go on the map she stays still. Makes her seem pointless when I know she could totally be a game changer.

The lack of OSP missions is so disappointing. I was thinking about it, and i guess in their defence, these cant be missions where you need to fulton anyone, need to destroy more than a couple of things, and i suppose travel a long distance. Some missions deffo don't have accessible vehicles for quite a while - and it's almost impossible to get trucks without high risk or gadgets.

This game is so difficult to fit into family life once those longer missions come in. After 60hrs I'm only up to Mission 12 (had many attempts as well) bit feels like I need a good 1hr and half to 2hrs to do it properly rather than rush in. It is awesome though.

I've finished all the story content and just have 30-50 missions to do, of varying lengths and complexities.

Checked my timer earlier and... 78 hours. I legitimately think this is the most time i've ever spent on a singleplayer game.

And i love every fucking minute of it. Here's to 50 more. Personally i've been lucky my partner's living in another city for a while - if she were here i'd have had no time for it :p

Low bond maybe? I know later on she follows you constantly, and you can give her orders to scout/attack ahead.

Are you directing her via the iDroid? She'll only scout bases and small encampments, nothing in between. You can also order her to move around to different positions for better coverage, but these are just as limited.

Unfortunately, yes it does. Closing the game or shutting down the console will not progress time. Processing time varies from 60 minutes [F-rank staff] to 10 minutes [S-rank staff] per "cycle".

Playing ep 30. This is just weird as hell.
The big, sweeping theme song kicks in... as you're both sitting there silently in the back of the car.
The deeper I get into the game the more it feels that we got half of what must have been originally envisioned. Unless we're operating at a MGS2 level and the anti-epicness of the story is actually the point.

Yeah, I just got her. But getting her bond higher is hard when right now she just seems to useless lol

Also, I'm having a damn hard time with mission 16.
The one where you have to extract the truck that the Skulls jump out of. I can't Fulton it because a few of my bases are too low level, but it seems impossible to drive it without the Skulls destroying it and they're also impossible to kill even with a rocket launcher
. Any ideas from anyone?

Double check to make sure you got everyone but once you back out of the menus it should allow you to move on iirc.

Quiet sometimes forgets to follow the player character for whatever reason.

She doesn't follow you at all. She takes position and will sit there until she takes fire or gets orders. You can either go to the Mission menu and go to the buddy menu to order her or hit the DPad on the map (up/down) to select her orders. Quiet Attack doesn't actually mean attack, either. It just tells her to re-position.

To begin with you have to use the map/buddy menu to order her ahead.

You get more buddy points every time you do this
