Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain |OT2| A Franchise Robbed Of Its Future

Double check to make sure you got everyone but once you back out of the menus it should allow you to move on iirc.

What if I have people out on missions? I have some combat/intel people on missions, am I stuck for the next 1.5 days? As some are on the long missions?

Chapter 2 Quiet spoilers. Well that's it,
it's done. Quiet has left me. My war buddy of 70+ hours. :'(
I managed to do the mission on my second try. It was a shame that I had it spoiled so I knew this was it, even if I beat it I knew she'd leave. The VO had a wonderful singing voice too.

To begin with you have to use the map/buddy menu to order her ahead.

You get more buddy points every time you do this

You might want to spoilertage some of that.

Also see my response above re Quiet.

Sorry, fixed it. But any ideas? It's pretty much halted all my progress in the game.

She doesn't follow you at all. She takes position and will sit there until she takes fire or gets orders. You can either go to the Mission menu and go to the buddy menu to order her or hit the DPad on the map (up/down) to select her orders. Quiet Attack doesn't actually mean attack, either. It just tells her to re-position.

Actually she does, at least at higher bond. You can even see her route, as there'll be a white buddy icon to mark where she's going. I see her moving from point to point constantly, as I'm roaming about.

I started using her the moment I could, and maxed her out pretty soon.

There should be (two?) tanks escorting the truck. You can jump in them. That's how I took out the Skulls.

The only option you've got is to stay and fight, call in supply drops to get more rocket ammo when needed and use a heavy machine gun...

Even if you had the other fulton they won't let you take it, they'll shoot it down.

The first I've heard of "bond" amount with buddies is in this thread. Clearly the game doesn't explain it well. How does one increase or lower bond?

Bring them with you on ops (side included), order them do stuff. As the bond increases, commands for them open up (scout/attack etc.), as well as equipment upgrades. Quiet in particular isn't so useful until you unlock her tranquilizer gun, as she'll pretty much start murdering everyone if BB enters alert status. (Bad if you're going non-lethal and/or want to recruit) Actually, even with the tranq, I'm almost positive I've seen her kill enemies. But that was before I maxed out her bond, so maybe it's intentional. I don't recall seeing her iff anyone afterwards.

EDIT: The bond level does show up in their buddy page. Like when you go to change them before commencing a mission. When I first got her, each side op gave you +3 bond or something.

And don't hit your buddy with a vehicle.

I know how to use Quiet, guys. I am just saying that sometimes she'll decide to sit at a place you've visited while you go across the map to do something else. Usually she'll move around on her own if you're at a zone with no guards or she wants to move to avoid taking fire or get a better line of sight on the enemy.

Mission 20 question?
Is it possible to actually fulton Volgin? I can get rid of Psycho Mantis by shooting him until he gives up but when I fulton him with a 100% efficiency he breaks the cord

So episode 45 is a piece of shit, huh? How do I cheese this thing since I apparently can't abort it and develop better weapons to not get one hit KO'd from across the map?

Welp, I finally lowered my demon status. Horn is back to its original size. Took awhile, but I really do enjoy all the killing. :(

Quiet has 2 modes: stationary and cover mode. If you order her to scout or attack a spot (via the buddy menu), she's stationary and will only fire or move on your command. She'll reposition within a location if under heavy attack (different spot covering the same area), but she won't run or move with you.

Ordering her to cover you gives her autonomy to attack or reposition. Giving her commands while she's in cover mode are akin to suggestions rather than orders. You can order her to go scout the moon, but if she's been given the order to cover you she'll disregard it, or pick her own position. Tell her to stop covering you if you want to control her again. While covering you, she'll keep up with your movements. The downside is that she'll often engage before you do, negating stealth.

And that's Quiet. Some missions start out with Quiet moving to the first likely location you'll encounter hostiles/where you should be headed. Like mission 20, she'll auto move at the start because the game thinks you'll go to her location to gather intel.

You can abort by fultoning yourself out with the Fuel cargo container. Just climb on top and fulton by holding onto the balloon with triangle.

No. You do that in a side op but you can discover which one on your own :)

After all this talking about episode 45 it seems pretty clear I've gotta prepare myself for it for when it happens.

This probably explains it then. though my memory is telling me that I had used cover me at the time and I managed to get far away enough that the option to cease cover was grayed out.

Completely off-topic, but why the fuck can't I play MGS1 on the Vita???

You can, but you might need to transfer from ps3.

For ep 45 I ended up just
spending a fortune calling in bombardments, but even then they'd figure out where I w
as.

In what way? Should I develop launchers? Grenade launchers? Fully upgrade in heli? (Answer may be in a spoiler tag)

Rocket Launcher, grenades, anything anti-vehicle (C4, the various mines). And yeah the Heli if you're planning on calling it in- remember to equip it with missiles, upgraded armor is a must. I did it using the MR R-Launcher, the fulton (with the early waves, you can rush up to tanks pretty safely), and supply drops. There's actually rocket launcher ammo located all over where you are, but the supply drops sometimes come automatic once you're low.

The tanks have a set pattern, so you can actually memorize where they'll end up, and plant mines accordingly. It can be helpful.

Glad to see I wasn't the only one having problems with mission
45
. Even though the cut-scene that followed did pull at heart strings, I was still ticked at all the BS that preceded it. Went from using strategy during the first few attempts, to 'I don't give a fuck anymore I'll try anything at this point', as in I
started using the Fulton on enemy vehicles to get them out of the map
.

A company being excited for their new game is a huge slap in the face to all the fans that liked their old games.
Can anyone help me out?

I imported the steel book from UK and it took forever to get here (Canada), so I played on my brothers console in the meantime.

Now I'm trying to load my file and the game boots me straight into the prologue.

Does PAL not recognize NA save files?

I've got a very important question about mission 31
When the Sahelanthropus, stood completely upright, was that it's dick sticking out?

It's a flamethrower. Metal Gear REX had a red laser dick in the very first game. Most people seem to have forgotten about it though.

Which happens to actually be the easiest and most viable strategy.

FUCK MISSION 31. FUCK IT!

That's the second time in a row I've had it down most of the way only to get one hit killed by some bullshit.

Quick question... I've just been completing Side Ops before I continue with the story and it looks like I've exhausted all the ones currently available to me... so the game is telling me I have one new Side Op but it's one I've already completed (hence the check mark, #28):

dFqVGlL.jpg

Is this what usually happens? When you can't take on any new ones it just rehighlights ones that you've already completed? Would this Side Op reward me with something different this time?

Yes. And uh... dunno, I know you still get the GMP reward. The game wants you to have stuff to do between developments (which can get absurdly long) and so you're never in need of GMP.

Just started playing due to my old controller giving me issues. Trying to redo mission 2 to get the S rank, but do I really have to watch this cut scene every time?

Yeah, they repeat a lot, same with "Extract the Highly Skilled Soldier". Which I find funny, because the target isn't as skilled as his comrades I extracted.

I'm not sure what controller you are using, but on a PC with a 360 controller, hitting the back button will bring up a prompt asking if I want to skip the cut scene. I'd guess this would be the select button with the PS3, not idea what it is on the PS4 since it has that share button I keep trying to use like select.

Just completed mission 23, it is in a nutshell the perfect example of the horrible pacing so far. Grr.

Also, I feel like I should have had the FOB stuff forced upon me by now, but other than some random mentions of "you should make one" I haven't built one or gone through a tutorial. Did I miss something or do I already have a FOB and no one has told me.

Thanks, I messed out with my ps4 controller. Holding the touchpad does the trick.

left side of touch pad is select, and right side of the touch pad is start.

I've completed mission 43, can't seem to get 44 to pop but have done everything with a yellow dot. Do I need to complete the retread missions?

I feel like this game is totally falling apart, and should have ended at Chapter 1. It's really sad, because everything about this game plays great.

Go to the Base Management tab and press R1 (or R2 can never remember which is which). That will take you to FOB1, if you have gotten it it would give you base building options, or an option to buy it if you never went through the tutorial. (You need to finish ep
22
, though)

Yeah, so I've been hearing. lol

And I've just started noticing what you mentioned with ops targeted for extracting "skilled" soldiers. haha

Thanks, ya'll!

Used my upgraded helicopter for fire support for the first time... (side-op with an enemy gunship and base full of angry enemies went wrong)
Pretty powerful :D

Though I had to send it away as it has the same AI logic problem as Quiet in cover mode:

Woke up enemy to hold them up for interrogation -> BB can't even finish his "talk!" before the helicopter murdered the soldier with its minigun right in front of my feet lol... Glad it didn't use the rockets :p
