Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain |OT2| A Franchise Robbed Of Its Future

Had the game glitch on me earlier.

Loaded up a side mission in Afghan and there were a few rain drops in the chopper which was weird and listening closely you can hear it rain outside the heli and low and behold it was fucking raining in Afghanistan, it was so cool.

But it reminded me of something, in GZ the guards would wear those awesome rain ponchos when it rained, why the hell did they remove them!

Weather is dynamic and random in tpp, while it was scripted into the missions in GZ. The guards in GZ didn't put on ponchos when it rains, they have them on already.

Just completed mission 23, it is in a nutshell the perfect example of the horrible pacing so far. Grr.

Also, I feel like I should have had the FOB stuff forced upon me by now, but other than some random mentions of "you should make one" I haven't built one or gone through a tutorial. Did I miss something or do I already have a FOB and no one has told me.

Are you playing offline? I think if you're not connected to the sever when you complete mission 22, you skip the FOB tutorial, but will be forced into it later once you do go online.

Which is why I've been playing completely offline before and since...

Is 1400 the most people you can have in your staff no matter what?

edit: seems it's 700 per base, so I guess you could get another 700 with a second FOB.

You will get it once you unlock the master key for it, not sure what the exact number is but I've read that the requirements are a certain amount of fulton extractions. Could be 300, could be 500, not sure.

Apparently if you do the side op - "Capture the Legendary Jackal" you get the ability to develop it. Just tested it out myself.

So I'm up to Mission 39 or 40 so far, though I think some of these events or conversations could be unlocked maybe sooner or later, so maybe they're Mission <45 or even <50 spoilers

so.... ummm... the 'game' sort of ended at Mission 31 :p I feel like so far at least in terms of actual story gameplay or some sort of actual game narrative, Mission 31 really was the ending. And what all I'm doing now is completing 'hard mode' content to unlock bonus tapes, scenes, or unlock some sort of extra ending... sort of like a Peace Walker thing or something.

I was really hoping for a new 3rd area :( or at least 1 genuine big indoor location... a few times I thought this was teased, like the huge oil plant or the OKB, but there are basically no big indoor rooms or anything. Was really hoping for at least one factory or plant or something that took at least an hour to work through.

and even the 'new' missions really aren't new... just recycled SIDE OPS for hard mode missions

which is actually a good thing to have after the ending! i love all the extra content.... i just mean, after Mission 31 I was still expected 29 unique story missions haha

on the plus side, I've got S rank on almost half of them the very first time I complete them lol though I feel like, finishing a lot of these missions must have a very high chance of getting an A or at least a B at the least since if you do manage to complete them, you kinda have to play very well. I got S rank for Sahalenthropus, and then since then on the destroy the phantom whispers mecha walkers, traitor's caravan one, the quiet sniping one (this one was the hardest until I figured out that using a missile launcher totally screws up her senses... I tried to stealth her or legitimately hide and snipe her, but even after 1 hour, she still 100% instakilled me the second she had LOS. couldn't make her not know where I was with sniping. but if you should a rocket, especially that slow- 4-at-once rocket, it tricks her thinking where you are

and if you fire once at her, and she jumps very high to dodge it across the map, and you fire at that location where she's going to land, sometimes she jumps toward you across the map (she thinks you're on the other side of the map by the explosion) and she'll be sitting right beside you haha! so i put 2 double barrel shotgun blasts close range in her face :p did that twice and she was toast -- S rank hehe

so I just finish up to 39 or 40 now, and also all the kids, and I have a couple tapes to listen to that I've been saving a moment but maybe I'll finish most or all up to 50 tonight -- even though I'm kinda disappointed there's basically been no actual new gameplay since 31, still enjoying all these challenging missions a lot and still pretty interested in the story.... the child soldiers are getting annoying though, but Eli did just "ask to see his father" haha I posted a week when I very first met Eli, the way he lounged back in his chair and put his hands behind his head, I felt like he looked like Liquid :p wonder if that's the surprise coming

again ^spoilers up to Mission 41 or so but because of tapes/side ops maybe spoilers up to 45ish? just general impressions and a few guesses on my progress from 31 to 41

How do you unlock Mission 43?
I've finished the main missions (those not listed as Extreme, Subsistence, or the other prefixes) through 41, as well as the Escaped Children side ops, Man on Fire, and AI Pod, leaving only misc eliminations and mine clearing ones (with the exception of Wandering Puppets 02, but I'm pretty sure I don't need to do those). I know I need to max everything on Mother Base for mission 45, but do I have to do that before this one first
?

Also for that, is there a trick to getting the materials processed besides upgrading the Base Development on the main and FOB? I can just idle and have it process the 200k fuel I have, right?
Just focus on getting Base Development upgraded as fast as possible. Also something to know about the processing. I was leaving my game running 24/7 but wasn't paying too close attention to the materials for a while, found one issue with that. It only process materials during a save state, so entering your iDroid causes it do this, and if you just leave the game idle, it will process materials, but only one tick worth. So if you leave it running for 6 hours but never actually do anything, never go into your iDroid etc, it will only process 2500 fuel assuming you have 200k unprocessed stuff (it processes 10% of total unprocessed up to a max of 2500 per tick)

I actually found it far faster to simply play the game, doing side ops, farming other materials, or soldiers etc. so it processes the tick very close to when it should. I still leave my game running almost 24/7 but its mostly for upgrades as some of the later upgrades, especially base upgrades take forever.

320 hours in the game now hehe.

Having finished mission
45 without developing everything for Quiet,
can I still get 100%?

Yes.

Now to burn 3 hours worth of energy to obtain my platinum since I have everything done, but I need to still have that one item develop only so I can dismantle it. Konami certainly isn't an eco-friendly company.

i just did this yesterday
just ran southwards with huey, ignored the chopper and kept running until ocelot said i was safe for now. called the chopper to the south point, he was basically just next to me. that was it.

This trick seemed to work. Eventually,
it just lost sight of me and gave me enough time to call in the chopper.

I was able to hide even in the walker, I think even the
search pods missed me. I was so bummed I couldn't take the Walker with me on the helicopter

Yeah, I eventually said screw it to
the walkers and just snuck out of the base with Huey on my back because it seemed quicker.

I never got found after I hoofed it behind a rock the first time. You aren't making me wanna go back for s rank, tho.

It was painful. The best advice that seemed to work was just keep running south east. Finally S ranked it with
Huey taking no damage
. Restarting at checkpoints as many times as you want doesn't matter much so long as you have you rushed the mission without being spotted.

Only 3 more S ranks and mission tasks before I move onto Mission 32 and all the redundant missions.

Still need to exceed 300 developments,
develop a nuke, and dismantle said nuke.

Platinum is within striking distance.

Edit: Need to get all branches over level 50 for the Army trophy, but my heroism is like 300k so I see S Rank people all over. It's a matter of time.

So mission 46:
I haven't done it yet. But I also haven't given Paz all of the pictures. Can I still do that after that mission?

Yea,
it's not a point of no return like the stuff surrounding mission 45

I really recommend getting that
nuke started asap since it takes 24 in game hours to make.

That's probably it then. Haven't been online since I synced up my GZ save. I'll worry about it later.

I just spent 45 minutes doing the Mother Base shooting practices. The R&D one took forever. After I was done, I slipped off a platform and died.

ALL of that progress was lost, despite the game saving after EVERY other side op. Fuck this game and it's save system. Just... fuck it. What a shitty waste of time. Terrible target practice too, don't know what they were thinking.

mission 20-30 spoilers
While I was trying to get the cure for the disease that was going through my motherbase I was receiving tons of messages about my dudes dying from the disease( ie. 8-16+ maybe). I have no idea how many died, but I wonder if I really should have gone back and wandered around all of mother base and tried to identify people who were sick to send to quaranteen.

Did anyone do this? Did it cut down on deaths?

I basically ignored the issue and steamrolled through the missions to solve the problem.

I hated that one and yeah something similar happened to me. I never even got it until I had a tablet opened with a youtube video playing as I was mimicking it. There is a lot of weird difficulty spikes in this game. The other shooting practices were brain numbingly easy compared to that one.

I really wish the game gave you more GMP. All these neat weapons I'd like to use but I'd have to grind so much to pay for them all, so I just end up using the same set of weapons.

Dear God, the AI for
the child soldiers in Mission 18
is probably the worse seen in a video game escort mission in a while, and that's saying A LOT. They constantly run ahead of you without permission/direction, even when there's clearly danger up ahead, but when you actually want them to move away from a dangerous situation, they just stand there and cower, as they're a 7 year old from a Minnesota suburb whose never so much as been yelled at before.

Mission's like these are why I fucking loathe escort missions.

wat

you just kept going and didn't do anything about the infection stuff part of me laughed out loud, after getting 30 sent to the sickbay I looked straight into it

through to mission 40, I think Mission 21 is still one of my top favorites:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LmV9qzoUXvM

I really like that part of Angola, the sort of south-western savanna area... just sort of pretty, relaxing... planning out an
airport assassination
... did this mission remind anyone else of the original Rainbow 6 Ghost Recon?

especially the Desert Siege expansion? maybe just the combination of
'assassinate the target', a foreign arms dealer
, and the fact it's a high security airport.

but then if shit goes wrong:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-kz1MYJQMSk

it's actually a pretty darn fun fast-action mission if you're using D-Walker haha the big airport is a ton of fun to speed, skate, and gun-strafe through

do you ever sell resources? it helps a lot

i always have way too much bio mats and plants. i usually sell any excess I have above 50K and 500 respectively. if any super quick SIDE OPs spawn like heavy infantry, armored or tank units, I'll do those full rambo quickly too, takes just a few minutes and you get the GMP reward

Yeah
I noticed they would start running up even though I said "wait" not even 10 seconds ago. But thankfully they didn't run into any soldiers or anything so it didn't turn out to be as bad as it could. Actually, this is the last mission that I completed today and I ended up getting an S rank on the first try. I honestly thought I messed up bad. I was meticulously stealthy at the beginning, fultoned every single enemy possible and captured the outpost, I was so pissed that there were new enemies in the area once I started escorting the kids, got caught and basically started killing most of the soldiers that I came across. Was so relieved when I got to the helicopter.

Inches away from 100% at 118 hours. I just need Konami to make that sweet, sweet missing shock grenade blueprint appear and I'm golden.

Probably won't play this again for at least a year. I'm also seriously disappointed with the animal conservation platform. 47 animals collected and there's like 12 on display.

I on the other hand, thanks to doing the combat deployments have too much GMP, I wish there wasn't a 5 million cap. Feel like that's way too low, especially looking at the prices of some of the things you can buy.

it's possible to get the
kids
stuck temporarily... I can repeat it reliably, too... (Mission 18 btw)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oI-FAd9fS7I

this doesn't specifically show it, sorry it got cut off by the 15m limit on PS Share, but it does show the spot... on the left there by the hut, where the guards are running... so, when you first enter this area before any alert, there's a guard by that hut... let him SEE 'something'
(the kids)
but not actually alert or alarm

this causes the
kids
, who are technically set to 'Go,', to 'auto Hide'. then tranq the guard before he alerts or alarms. the
kids
, who you never told to 'Wait', are then still technically stuck in 'Go' and 'auto Hide'

so, you can go and clear the entire area because unlike when you are in 'Wait' and they auto Go, because the game still thinks they are in Go, they don't auto Go.... you can sort of confirm this because if you bring up L1, the option actually says "Wait" not "Go" because the game thinks they're actually already in "Go"

basically, they stay there the entire time.... you can go clear the entire area

and even if you take too long and
"reinforcements come"
, those guards actually spawn in the 2nd part of that area (the more grass part with the elevated hut on the right). so you can freely go clear the entire area and they just sit there the entire time

Yes. You can prevent a lot of casualties by handling it.

Why do I have TOS and 15 pages of server and patch notes every time I boot the game.

I just make sure to either turn the network connectivity off on the ps4 before starting MGSV up or suspend/resume the game so I don't have to deal with all that.

I got screwed over on that mission as well. Perfect Stealth run until I was
escorting those kids through the last outpost
. I placed the injured one down next to the others to clean out the guards ahead, but the kids wouldn't move afterward when I had pick the injured one up again. Brought him all the way to the helicopter, and his little posse were still hanging out at the rocks 142 meters away. No option for "Go" when I was near them again, and reinforcements were sent out to look the "missing prisoners" and found them. Had to restart at the checkpoint and little rugrats finally followed me as they were suppose to do in the first place.

hey, anybody know of any gameplays of someone playing this at a high level(stealthily preferably)? I feel like watching some really good gameplays but don't know who to turn to.
