Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain |OT2| A Franchise Robbed Of Its Future

Can't post in spoiler thread because i haven't finished chapter 2 yet
About the cutscene when you collected all mementos
So uhmm, was Paz real or not? At first, i thought Snake just imagined Paz because of his damaged brain but then i remembered that Kaz and Ocelot were there too.

BiGBoSSMk23

A company being excited for their new game is a huge slap in the face to all the fans that liked their old games.
If there's one thing that irked me about this game is how little indication it gives regarding the advantages of camouflage.

Sure, the uniform descriptions give you a basic idea but not once does Ocelot remind you, nor is there a meter to gauge just how well you're blending in.

And is it just me or is the sneaking suit super impractical for anything except urban/facility/night time infiltration?

That thing is jet black and leathery.

Snake must have hives all up his crack and shit

Dear God, the AI for
the child soldiers in Mission 18
is probably the worse seen in a video game escort mission in a while, and that's saying A LOT. They constantly run ahead of you without permission/direction, even when there's clearly danger up ahead, but when you actually want them to move away from a dangerous situation, they just stand there and cower, as they're a 7 year old from a Minnesota suburb whose never so much as been yelled at before.

Mission's like these are why I fucking loathe escort missions.
I thought it was really good.
They always waited, when I told them to.
And when I moved on, the followed me, with me having to tell them to. I liked that.

Keep going back to that room every once in awhile.

Edit; unless I misunderstood you...

Finish the game

I just refuse the ToS so I don't have to wade through all of that and stupidly long iDroid load times.

It's worked like a charm for the last 50 or so hours.
Wish I could've done the same but, if I recall correctly, you were forced to accept the "Terms of Service" in order to acquire the pre-order and Ground Zeroes save bonuses. Another issue arose today where the game attempted to force me into purchasing a FOB whenever I had my system connected online. It wouldn't allow me to do anything else with the iDroid while in the ACC, but I immediately disconnected and the menu went back to normal as usual.

Mission 43 spoilers:

I wasn't affected until I reached the final room and they're all fucking down there listening to the Peace Walker theme and brokenly humming it. God fucking damn.

BB is hallucinating them all in that scene.

I've been using the sneaking suit more now without paying much attention to TOD or anything, cuz I love the silent footsteps. Crawling helps so much and those white warning indicators are actually pretty damn generous. The amount time you have to get away by simply continuing to crawl can be underestimated. And if it gets hairy you can always use a c. box, or decoy, or bark, or magazine, etc.

And is it just me or is the sneaking suit super impractical for anything except urban/facility/night time infiltration?
the two sneaking suits are mostly for constructed areas... the biggest advantage is the silent walking... if you wear regular camo or heavy armor, all the clanking from walking on railings or metal plates can alert guards from farther away. plus it provides more armor and health regen, so if you do make a mistake and escape is harder because you're already in such close and restricted proximity, you've got extra defense

i must have spent 5-6 hours doing Mission 22 over and over because I wanted to try
Retake the Platform
with perfect stealth and complete it with zero alerts (even though there's no Rank just for fun), and I experimented a lot with Sneaking Suit vs Ocelot camo... same with a couple of the [Total Stealth] missions, and I found Sneaking Suit far more useful for the former and Ocelot fatigues the latter

sv-sneaking suit... probably let's you walk through/get hit by fire in certain missions, or even stand under a falling power lines, more safely i guess is the only reason for it?

outdoors at night, the ocelot one provides much better camo... anecdotally speaking at least i've crouched (or laid down on open dirt, no grass) very close to guards, and remain undetected in ways the sneaking suits have never allowed me to ever get close to doing .... i know it's hard to sort of be sure without a hard stat for camo, but at least in my experience, my impression seems to suggest it's worth it to use each respectively for urban or outdoor night situations.

On the chance you've finished all ten of the wandering soldier missions:
Yes, Paz was merely a hallucination brought on by the guilt of the "Ground Zeroes" finale. Acknowledgements from Miller and Ocelot were also figments of Snake's imagination which is a tidbit strange as nothing else of that nature occurs in the game. If you have beaten all those respective missions, I'll throw in an advanced tip to grab the final photograph on the hallway wall leading to her room to bookend the side-quest. Waiting twenty-four hours with the Phantom Cigar to turn in each photo does wonders here.

Yeah
I noticed they would start running up even though I said "wait" not even 10 seconds ago. But thankfully they didn't run into any soldiers or anything so it didn't turn out to be as bad as it could. Actually, this is the last mission that I completed today and I ended up getting an S rank on the first try. I honestly thought I messed up bad. I was meticulously stealthy at the beginning, fultoned every single enemy possible and captured the outpost, I was so pissed that there were new enemies in the area once I started escorting the kids, got caught and basically started killing most of the soldiers that I came across. Was so relieved when I got to the helicopter.

Yeah, I played it safe just like you throughout the mission (Well, I do this every mission, I always go for absolute stealth/no kills route). Then I got to them. They caused me to get my first A ranking because they kept running ahead and got caught, leading me to have to kill the guys and raise unnecessary hell .

I did give them directions such as wait and they still kept going ahead and I was very close to them, so I know I did nothing wrong on my part and instead it was horrible AI. In fact, the only time they did what I told them to was when I told them to follow me at the end, although this was already after they had been detected and screwed my perfect run up.

I am only on mission 21 now but the horn on big bosses head. Without spoiling, is it explained? I don't get it. I have killed a ton of people and it is bigger now so I assume it grows or gets smaller depending on how you play? Big Boss looks stupid with it.

There's Hero and Demon points. Demon points are an invisible number that's added to whenever you kill somebody, while Hero points reward tactical takedowns, rescuing prisoners, etc. Demon points determine how big the piece of shrapnel grows.

When was that ever explained in the game? I don't remember it. I rescue every prisoner and fulton at least 50% of every base enemy during missions but I look to still be a big demon based on my horn.

They follow you again on their on when you advance to a curtain point, which I really liked.

Inches away from 100% at 118 hours. I just need Konami to make that sweet, sweet missing shock grenade blueprint appear and I'm golden.

Probably won't play this again for at least a year. I'm also seriously disappointed with the animal conservation platform. 47 animals collected and there's like 12 on display.

And it's not even connected to your main base. I feel like Motherbase has so much potential wasted in numerous ways.

They had animals running around Mother Base in last year demo but they removed it in final build it seems :(
Edit: MB really has wasted potential. They could add more mini-games based on real life military camp like baseball, 1 vs 1 fighting, some "special" missions like pooyan, ghosts photography. Call me crazy but i found side contents in Peace Walker is better than TPP even though both are repetitive.

Yeah, the game pretty much punishes you for going to war. You can grind it down again by playing super wussy like for a long time, so it's not permanent. If you want to avoid demon points then don't kill anything. Animals, allies, enemies, by any means, even through buddies or by environmental accidents.

If you're on the PC then you can just use cheat engine as an alternative.

Game does have a tendency to feel really hollow at times. For me there's been a lack of scale and any change from the core mission objective. Everything is too clean and art of that is the strong level design but I wish there were a lot more random events in the world (there's aa huge lack of characters not on Mother Base) and missions as well - with so many different players and you'd think there would be more events and going on.

So far its mostly restricted to the player choosing how to play - for all the stealth; once spotted there's a lot of missions and objectives that force you to fight rather than lose alert status.

I like the gameplay but the world is lacking.

seems like the game was too ambitious for kojipro since it feels incomplete and with the lack of focus on story.

Hi --

Soooo, at 70 hours, I've finally finished Mission 3
1
My questions is now: What do you guys think about Chapter
2
? The preview you get after Chapter
1
is kinda crazy, but I don't know if I should invest the time.

Regarding the missions after 3
1
--
It seems that Mission 32 is a unique one, but the ones after that are recycled (Subsistence, Extreme) - Are all the following missions recycled? Does the story get more "Metal Gear" after Chapter 1? The end of Chapter 1 only started tying together the strings.

Also, I spoiled myself on the
Butterfly
Emblem.
I heard that it affects
Quiet leaving or staying. Does it matter from a story/mission perspective? Basically, is there anything missable?

I maxed out my GMP yesterday, it doesn't allow me to collect more :)

I agree, the empty motherbase irks me too. Why the hell wouldn't you see any NPCs of importance around? D-Dog, Ocelot, Kaz, the brats... All I've seen so far is those random soldiers wandering around, not even talking to each other.

They do talk to each other some times, but that's it.

But yeah, could've done with some interaction with stoy relevant characters.

Is it me or are intros (before you enter a main mission) spoiler-ish? I can always see who is starring in it. Ive decided to look away when the mission starts

Yeah I did the same thing. It led to some pretty good "oh shiiiii-" moments. I'm not sure what they were thinking when they put those credits in.

Mission 29 question:
I was planning on doing a few side ops before I do this mission but I'm worried about my soldiers dying, which seems to happen after every mission. Should I do it now or does it matter?

Also it looks like its gonna be a big mission, any loadout suggestions?

Thanks

I didn't even escort them.
I traq them all as soon as we left the cave then called for 2 jeeps drop, put them in the jeeps and extracted the jeeps
. I always do this to every
child soldier
I encounter lol

Do it as soon as you can. I brought the heaviest weapons I have with me because I had to fight
4-5 armored skulls
.

Damn, Quiet just left during episode 28 because she got assaulted by the
female skull snipers
. Now I can't select her as a buddy in the loadout menu anymore. Do I need to do something specific or will she return after a few missions?

She did? That didn't happen during my play-through. Reload the mission and don't tell her to cover you. Only use "fire" command when you see the target.

Did I miss something when your called back to look at the battle gear? Game takes you to this room finished a cut scene and then you can not interact with anything - very odd.

I would have taken one area full of characters over what we have tbh. I mean why is mother base so spread out? I can only assume is a loading issue? Its ridiculous and I feel like the mother base idea doesn't fit when you have the idroid - theres no real reason to walk about there.

Well I already finished the mission because she couldn't help me in the later part anyway. Guess I'll see how it goes D:
She basically retreated from the battlefield, no cutscene or something like that.

yeah motherbase sucks. annoying to navigate vertically, nothing to do there outside of the target practice side ops. really no point in going back there as exploring is a waste of time outside of the one
paz cutscene
.

you're forced back there anyways when anything of relevance happens.
