Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain |OT2| A Franchise Robbed Of Its Future

Yeah, they're a cool concept and it ties in to the plot of the other games really nicely. It's just the way Code Talker kept repeating the phrase that made his tapes so unbearable. The least they could've done was come up with a cool, Metal Gear sounding name for the virus. Voxdie, anybody?.

You're pretty good.

I had no issue with the tapes, personally. I love the fact Kojima is referencing Burroughs so explicitly. Dude has great taste.

Going to start a second playthrough tonight.
I never completed all of the S-Ranks, or the bonus objectives, but I just kind of want to go through those missions again with a proper progression, focusing on pure stealth, no matter how long it takes.

I'd appreciate any tips (spoilery ones included -- tag em' obviously), or just quality of life improvements for a second playthrough, little things I might have missed on my first that make the run a touch easier.

Not really had time to play much of this but I'm absolutely loving what I have played so far.

I have some questions about Mother Base that I can't find answers to elsewhere, I know that the game itself may answer them later on as I'm still quite early on in the game.

A simple "it will happen later on" rather than giving information away rather than details of exactly how the things happen would perfect.

When Konami showed a walkthrough at Gamescom, the base they built had each platform right next to each but I've just added my first two additional platforms and they're absolutely miles away from each other. Is this something that's customisable later on?

I appreciate that the there may be performance issues with having all the platforms such close proximity as happens here so they may have dropped that now.

I remember Kojima talking about painting his base pink ages ago, is this something that will happen later on as I don't really seem to have customisation options at the moment or has this not appeared in the final game?

I keep fluttering sheep after being instructed to in one of the missions, am I doing this for a reason? I always have spare Fulton systems on me so it's not really an issue but I just can't work out whether it's completely pointless or whether something happens later on?

Thanks. :)

The answer to the platform proximity question is "It will sort of happen later on." It's not really a spoiler, but basically your different teams (Medical, R&D, ect) will always be spaced out, but as you upgrade you may get a platform or two under one team that are placed right next to each other.

As for the color customization, yes, you can do that.

As for the fultoning animals, just keep doing it, there will be a definitive thing you'll get for it.

This game is so detailed in weird ways (mainly in Hideo missions oddly enough).

The Russian Interpreter you have to extract is trying to teach the other guard how to say "I slept with your girlfriend last night" because the other guard wants to know what to say to an American.

In Angel with broken wings, there's one guard at the final base where Malak is being held who is concerned with Malak's medical condition but gets blown off by the other guard, and tries to comfort him by telling him his family's still alive, but Malak doesn't understand him at all.

I did most of the mission with total stealth and there is one thing that still bother me a bit : the full armored soldiers. Since you can't put them to sleep you have to get close to choke them. I guess stun/sleep grenade can work but I never used them.
Also if you want a good stealth experience you should turn off reflex mode and marking (but that won't make thing easier like you want :p)

Not enough cool infographics and/or real life footage

I didn't mind it but he also takes a fucking long time to say anything

Yeah, the writing is also pretty bad. I mean how many time does he repeat himself? Yeah I get it Kojima,
the wolbachia transforms male into female, I've already heard that about 10 times before
.

And how many times does he say the words
vocal cord parasites
? In MGS4 characters would say nanomachines all the time, but at least it was just a single word. Here
Code Talker
just repeats those three words way, way too many time.

It just sounds very clumsy and it ends up being quite tedious.

You don't need to be in a rush to want to shake someone and say GODDAMNIT MAN SPIT IT OUT

The spirit of Bauer compels you.

did you not find calling in supply drops when surrounded by like 15 skulls pretty impossible?

Supply Flares, brah.

It sounds very much like old school Metal Gear to me. :D

about late mission named
cursed legacy: a task is "pinpoint soldier location via file". i've already inspected 2 files but none for a soldier? is there a 3rd? thanks.

You are totally missing the amazing moment of transition between "everything is stealthy, I've got it under control, and no gets hurt" to "oh shit! My plans are ruined and I have to fight my way out in any way possible!!"

You can play it however you want, but I think you are robbing yourself of the greatest moments in this game with your misplaced perfectionism.

Next time you try an infiltration and get spotted, think: this will be your greatest moment in gaming if you can get out of this creatively.

This definitely, I even turned off Reflex Mode generally since I don't mind being spotted too much given it means I fucked up being stealthy, and the fact that the slowmo was bothering me anyway. It's a lot of fun to diffuse combat situations, especially non-lethally.

Hitting someone with a tranq dart as they are charging you down or going out of cover yourself to CQC someone down just has something to it.

15? Tsk, there's only four of them. Just run away and hide behind something before calling in supply drops. Or just use D-Walker for an easy S-rank like others have already suggested.

Missions 16, 17 and 18
were so, so bad. 18 started off pretty well, but the latter part of the mission was AWFUL. If I'm supposed to give allies specific moving instructions, how about they not move on their own whenever they please, alright? 17 was just kinda there, and felt like another filler mission. 16...yeah, I dunno there. It felt random as to whether or not I could pass it.

I need to find out how I can Fulton
Tanks, because Cargo 2 isn't working for me.
I also need to find
The Bandana so I can get infinite ammo...if it exists.

I don't know about the ammo, but the bandana can only be found quite late in the game. I think you even have to reach chapter 2.

Ha, now that I'm replaying MGS3 I noticed that one of the first motherbase cutscenes has Ocelot
scolding a recruit for using an engraved pistol, saying it gives him no tactical advantage whatsoever. It's the same speech Snake gave him back in Snake Eater.
Nice Touch.

Can we increase the 1400 MB personnel limit ? I went back on some mission to extract (again) some specialist since they got kicked out because of their weak stat, but once I finish the mission they automatically appear in the dismiss section even though I made some space in the waiting room. I guess the number of volunteers was too high...

how many s rank soldiers do you have?

Possibly spoilers for missions after 35ish
do any of these new stealth or extreme replay missions have new cutscenes in them? I skipped a few of the longer ones since they all seemed exactly the same.

Also I don't have a new main mission anymore, it just stopped at like 42 or 43 or something. I think the code talker one was the last one I did.

Until you start meeting people with riot suits then she's pretty useless

Even then she can easily keep entire bases focused on her while you sneak in from the back, fulton whatever it is that you came to fulton and leave without anyone noticing.

Or you can just give her an anti-materiel rifle at which point she becomes a practically unstoppable killing machine.

Thanks, perfect answers. after re-atching the Gamescom walkthrough there did appear to be clusters of platforms so I thought maybe it would be something like that.

I'll just carry on doing what I'm doing and the game will tell me stuff when it;s relevant to me.

question about the "retrieve wandering MB soldiers" side ops and the
Paz
story line:

I know that when you bring back each former MB soldier, you get a new photo to show to Paz which triggers a new scene with her. But can I do the 9 remaining missions and then visit Paz once after, or do I need to return to MB and visit her nine separate times between missions?

Not really a spoiler, but when you start adding additional decks to increase your staff capacity, the additional ones are next to each other. So I'm assuming the Gamescom Walkthrough was with upgraded platforms with additional decks. Hope this helps.

One of the loading tips says that putting two troublemakers on the same team will result in them annoying each other, and not the rest of the group.

Never tried it, though.

Separate times. As she'll be tired/have a headache after each and need to rest.

Separate times but you can just
smoke cigars outside of her room to make her head not hurt. No need to leave MB or do missions.

It didn't seem to help doing this when I eventually decided to figure out why everyone was fighting all the time. I was still getting a lot of fights, so I figured as long as they aren't killing each other I didn't really give too much of a toss.

I still haven't made an FOB after 73 hours. PC cheaters give me doubts this is any fun on there. But...maybe fight fire with fire? Where the trainers be? It's like building a nuke, it's a deterrence that Peace Walker talked about.

Don't ask how to cheat. Don't do it. You don't fight roaches with more roaches.

I haven't been invaded and the only invasion I tried was a miserable failure since they had super tight security. I think as the game ages and fewer people play, the chances of losing stuff will drop to almost zero.

I was never invaded on PC, so whatever. The stuff you get for building a FOB is worth it.

Well I was joking. But it's just dumb! Why should I show respect to someone that has infinite health? I obviously would only go against other cheaters with that. I'm not even really interested in a trainer outside of the single player to be honest. It's fun doing that in SP. seeing the systems break down in front of you. Kind of like what Jeff wanted to do on the bombcast. But I digress. I'm just rambling on why I haven't built one. I could find one if I really wanted to though.

I ended up killing plenty of soldiers not worthy enough to fulton during the latter stages of the game. In my head I'm thinking "I've wasted time scanning you and your best skill is worthless D. Time to die, Rotting Clungnugget. Your pal, on the other hand, Putrid Eel, has a A+ in R&D, so he gets to ride the balloon." I don't know why, but I just take great glee in executing the mediocre. It's a new kind of therapy for me.
I know. I'm like the Hitler of meritocracy. "You don't even have an A in anything? Time to die."
