Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain |OT2| A Franchise Robbed Of Its Future

Okay, about to delete my save I guess (to start a second playthrough). Really don't feel like playing just the side ops, too used to enjoying MGS with the story.

Also feels lonely without
Quiet
-_-

Being unable to enjoy another full story playthrough on the same save file is probably my only major complaint with the game. They should have at least allowed multiple saves.

Just finished the prologue, that was intense. I really enjoyed it, hope the rest of the game fares well, I'm not too optimistic about the open world theme.

From a gameplay standpoint it's amazing since it allows you to approach mission areas in so many ways and from all directions.

Spoiler for up to mission 14 or 15, and I saw an 'extra' cut scene in the medical bay area.

Is that it for the reveals with Paz, like should I keep going back? Or not point?

Just started the game today. Shat my pants when I ran into the Skulls during the Kaz rescue mission.

I tried tranquilizing one with the handgun, didn't go as planned. :p

Spoiler vvv

I hope they patch Quiet back into the game. Seems beyond ridiculous to have her removed, for playing purposes she should have been left as a buddy. Glad I had backed up the data, otherwise I would have to start a new file to unlock her equipment. Also, multiple save files.

I hope konami, and kojima are able to fix their shit. I need to play the events leading up to Metal Gear Solid. :(

Do you guys want dlc for the game? I don't need it to be part of the story. I would be okay with over the top special missions(think VR missions), boss fights from past entries, skins, and some unique characters with special skills. Heck they can reuse assets from Camp omega, and mother base for MGS1/2 stages.

By the way, didn't kojima work on the original vision of metal gear rising using the fox engine? Would be sweet to get a HF blade as dlc, I don't even need it to slice people/items in half. Just some cool animations and bullet deflection. I'm still salty over the pixelated Gray Fox. :(

Does anybody else just not like the look of the Sneaking Suit at all? I almost never use it.
I like how it looks, just doesn't feel like something I'd wear for sneaking around the desert. Also, are the empty slots meant for future suits? Seems crazy to have so many empty slots.

The FOX engine is brilliant. Give me a remake of the original two MSX games and a new ZOE game deities.
Yuppers! Them mechs look straight out of the ZOE universe, half expected to unlock some sort of mecha vehicle, but nothing. Open world MGS, terrific engine, with so many possibilities for crazy weapons/item/vehicle unlockables. It's sad to see how it all went down between kojima, and konami.

Im having a total love-hate relationship with this game. I love running around doing the side quest, fultoning supplies and new soldiers but so far I pretty much hate the story missions, just did Mission 15 with those goddamn stupid
Skull soldiers, or should I say the rock conduits from Infamous. They arent fun to fight....like at all and there is no point in running or driving away since they can just teleport on to your face and stab you. Also its pretty annoying how they seem to gravitate towards your position even if they havent spotted you yet, they just feel cheap as hell.

Between that and the "Go and destroy 3 tanks but we wont tell you where they are, and when you destroy one, the others make a bee line for the map exit and you dont have any good way of chasing them except with an effin horse". They just dont feel designed well at all.

It seems like the design wants you to use the horse. I tried that mission a lot of different ways, but some work better than others.

is that the mission where you look for a truck? Trying to not spoil anything.

If it is, and you completed it.

I tranq'd them with sleeping grenades. Got to the truck before it left the airport, and approached the truck while in crawl stance. You can use the active decoys to lure them into a corner, then unleashed some z-nades, went down pretty fast.

Just did the mission 44 i think it was, the
Extreme Metallic Archeas mission. It took me like an hour, my weapons are too underdeveloped lol Also, I could just fulton one Skull, how do you fulton all 4 of them ?

fulton 2-3 while the other one is still alive. You usually have time to Fulton 2 when they're all dead. Develop the Brennan sniper. Best weapon to use on them

You enjoy all the killing, that's why. :p

Prefer to do stealth but the broken cover system prevents me from doing that and once an alarm goes off, I just say screw it and use my guns. Should still be able to clean off the blood though. I can see shooting affecting score/rating/etc. but it shouldn't affect my uniform and skin since I can obviously change clothes and shower in the game. Oh well, whatever.

They disappear after a while from when you kill the last Skull so make sure to fulton one as soon as you kill it, you won't have much time to fulton everyone after the last one dies.

Also an easy way to tackle them is to develop the Sinful butterfly for Quiet, get battle suit and keep running around the buildings to avoid the giant projectiles. She can take down Skulls with just 2-3 shots with that gun.

So what are the other conditions for being able to customize Quiet's appearance like D-Horse and D-Dog? I've had her bond level at max for a while now and I just finished Mission 31.

kojima's vision for big boss' vision of building up Mother Base, I guess.

You can't really customise her appearance the same way that you do for the other buddies. But you can
buy two outfits for her that you can then select at the mission load out screen. They're in the Development menu under Buddies I think.

What broken cover system? Perfect stealth is absolutely doable in MGSV. All the subsistence missions I did without being spotted, so it's not like you have to rely on gadgets. Obviously there are total stealth missions too...

I dunno, never had trouble ghosting through missions when I wanted to.

So that's it?
What about the Diamond Dogs and Sniper Wolf outfits? And that one cut scene?

So I just beat Mission 45 and all I have left are 46 and 48-50. However, there's still something like 20+ side ops left to unlock. Do I unlock them after beating whatever I have left or am I missing something?

Just play the sideops you have and you'll unlock the rest. Also after completing
46
seek immediate YouTube attention in the form of episode
51
then report back to Mother GAF and wallow in the phantom pain.

I already did. Literally all the sideops are completed that are available to me.

You need the noise suppression specialist from Mission 38. Outpost 24 he should be in, you'd also need to have your Pistol upgraded to that point and have the necessary base requirements.
There is a Noise Suppression Specialist in mission 38. He is located in one of the camps in the mission area. You need him and your R&D needs to be high enough (around 45-50) to develop it. It is the last version of the Wu pistol. Really handy since you don't have to worry that much about missing your targets.
Can he develop indestructable silencers for other weapons, or is it just the WU? Having to call in a suppressor supply drop every few minutes gets pretty tiresome.

Sniper wolf outfit is for finishing the Extreme version of her fight. The XOF outfit can be developed somewhere in the middle of the game I think.
Eva and Boss outfits will probably be released as dlc soon...

I'm LTTP but just finished the prologue - very much a Kojima game so far. I'm guessing it isn't 70 hours of this?!

Spolier:
Am I reading too much in to it but has something funky gone on with Ismael and Ahab as they both sound the same?

After some more digging it appears the rest will unlock after I finish Mission 46. Kinda weird they'd hide them behind the very last mission of the game, but okay then.

The indestructable silencer for Wu is built in so you can't put it in other weapons. Haven't seen other weapons with indestructable silencers atleast yet. You get infinity bandana at somepoint though which affects silencers also. So unless you are going for S-Ranks you can use that.

Aww yiss got my final S-Rank. Mission 45 was actually really painless to S-Rank and even completed it with
Quiet not taking any damage.
Much more enjoyable mission once you have good gear though I still got OHK even with highest lvl Battle Dress.

Time to work towards the infinity bandana.

I upgraded my battle dress only once and never got OHK on mission 45 ever.
Idk what I was doing differently...

I was even able to survive the slow mo shot head on in mission 31 and survive.

*shrugs*

So I just started this the other day.

Am I right in that if I want to do a mission and I'm at Mother Base, I have to call the chopper, wait for it to arrive, climb on, wait for it to fly off, wait for loading, and then finally choose my mission?

That's just terrible design compared to Peace Walkers menus :|

really really really enjoying kiefer sutherland here. like, i think it's a marked step up over david hayter. he actually sounds like the person hayter was desperately trying to be.

I like him too, but it does seem bizarre how rarely he talks. It's like you're playing as Link sometimes - you can go through hours of gameplay and never hear his voice. Seems weird compared to Big Boss in MGS3 who'd never shut up.

That and the inability to use helicopter travel around the Afghanistan and Africa maps are parts of the game that could have really used some streamlining. Especially given the game's structure, those decisions become massive inconveniences when spread out across hundreds of hours.

A couple of lines here and there come off as distractingly phoned in, but I was pleasantly surprised with Sutherland as well. A shame he's barely used throughout the game...

i'm listening to the tapes so i hear him quite a lot. i kind of prefer this version of the character too (versus mgs3's talkative one)

This is especially weird given they've already implemented this on Motherbase, where you can move from strut to strut. I can understand why they might limit that ability during missions (it could break gameplay, maybe - I can't think how off the top of my head, but it could) but between missions or during side ops? I don't see why you can't.

Think I'm close to done with the game. Only got 2 main missions (last two) left and side op 150. Researched everything, S ranked most things (but let's be honest, S ranking things is as hard as watching a youtube video and then abusing whatever mechanic is most applicable) and had a ton of fun FoBing it up. FoBing unfortunately is a very shallow game mode so there's no real long term appeal there, but it was fun while it lasted.

10/10 would highly recommend. Solid GOTY contender and the best open world stealth game.

Now to give Witcher 3 a serious go. It also has cardboard boxes, right?
