This cutscene is rad. What a bummer its hidden behind doing not well!

Any other cutscenes like this? I heard there was one for going in the red on GMP.

Uh? Not sure. I got this as well. I think is just there to WARN you against going in the red and such.

I upgraded my battle dress only once and never got OHK on mission 45 ever.
Idk what I was doing differently...

I was even able to survive the slow mo shot head on in mission 31 and survive.

*shrugs*

I took tank shot right in the face and died instantly. Not entirely sure though if I got hit by some infantry before it but atleast I didn't notice any damage taken before just dying. Usually the battle dress is enough to take tank hits but here they hit a ton.

Holy shit, mission 19 is really testing my fucking patience.

thats how i felt when i did a mission. i dont remember which one. but im still in the teen missions.

having to spend 10-15 minutes on a mission just to accidentally fuck up by mistake or contemplate a reset is.....

Just
mark the target and follow him slowly to the meeting place and spam sleeping gas grenades. Then just fulton everyone. You can also just take Quiet with tranq.rifle or if you don't care just throw a regular grenade and call it a day.

Edit: I meant mission 18, not 19.

Clean the area before engaging mission targets. Like, futon/kill/destroy everything in the area.

During the second part of the mission, don't be afraid to drop your cargo and go kick some ass to clear the way. Just make sure to mine the area you came from to avoid anyone following you.

Mission wasn't particularly challenging if you go in full silenced lethal or have Quiet with a silenced weapon.

That and the inability to use helicopter travel around the Afghanistan and Africa maps are parts of the game that could have really used some streamlining. Especially given the game's structure, those decisions become massive inconveniences when spread out across hundreds of hours.

The 'return to ACC' command and cardboard box deliveries (plus upgraded D-walker) more than makes up for this for me.

A couple of lines here and there come off as distractingly phoned in, but I was pleasantly surprised with Sutherland as well. A shame he's barely used throughout the game...

I like him too, but it does seem bizarre how rarely he talks. It's like you're playing as Link sometimes - you can go through hours of gameplay and never hear his voice. Seems weird compared to Big Boss in MGS3 who'd never shut up.

i'm listening to the tapes so i hear him quite a lot. i kind of prefer this version of the character too (versus mgs3's talkative one)

Without spoiling anything, Keifer gets some great stuff later on. Absolutely brilliant work. It's still not a lot but it is a lovely amount, imo.

Think I'm close to done with the game. Only got 2 main missions (last two) left and side op 150. Researched everything, S ranked most things (but let's be honest, S ranking things is as hard as watching a youtube video and then abusing whatever mechanic is most applicable) and had a ton of fun FoBing it up. FoBing unfortunately is a very shallow game mode so there's no real long term appeal there, but it was fun while it lasted.

10/10 would highly recommend. Solid GOTY contender and the best open world stealth game.

Now to give Witcher 3 a serious go. It also has cardboard boxes, right?

I'm on Mission 41 at the moment and, narratively (not pacing-wise), Chapter 2 is very good so far. Hopefully, I'll complete it before MGO releases and, if it is a good ending, you'll have my axe. :)

I do think this version fits Big Boss better. He talked so much in MGS3, and had so many silly lines, like when he would go on and on about some combat technique an enemy or friend just showed up. A lot of times I was like will you shut up already Snake?

I'm LTTP but just finished the prologue - very much a Kojima game so far. I'm guessing it isn't 70 hours of this?!

Spolier:
Am I reading too much in to it but has something funky gone on with Ismael and Ahab as they both sound the same?

You'll see quite a bit Kojima moments. Enjoy the game!

Kept you waiting huh?

It only works when you're not in alert/combat alert outposts.

Well sometimes it doesn't work even when there is no alert at all. My experience with it has been so unreliable that I don't even bother trying it most of the time.

You need to collect the pieces of paper at every deliverie point, to be able to fast travel to that outpost.

I know but when I am on delivery point I have opened the prompt that appears is crossed over.

if soliders saw something strange even they didn't see you (normal condition, no alert), you wouldn't be able to use it.

I got through it but it was really starting to annoy me in that last section.
The behaviour of the kids felt pretty random, sometimes they'd run ahead of me without me giving the order, other times they wouldn't move.
The reinforcements coming from behind and killing the kids also screwed me over, then once I got spotted by the chopper and it just started raining missiles on the damn place.
It's not actually very hard, I'm just not feeling very patient today and I hate escort missions.

Pop the chopper at the start of the mission. Those things are annoying as shit. If you blow it up far enough away from the camp it won't alert anyone.

The escort targets tend to stay still, but when you tell them to go they move forward a lot more than you'd expect. I mined the entrance into the valley (where I came from) to buy me enough time to sweep the valley with a silenced sniper rifle and Quiet. When I went back for the escorts they could just run without worrying, cause the opposition was dead.

More or less what I did but I just hid from the chopper while sniping my way through and then getting the
kids
.
Didn't think of setting up mines, good idea, I got back in time to take out the reinforcements though.

I'm pretty addicted to the game right now, all this talk about it taking a nosedive in the second half is disappointing to hear.

BTW,
where can I find the kids in the motherbase?
I wish they'd tell me this stuff when I bring people in.
Also, what's up with spoiling which enemies will appear at the start of each mission? Who thought that was a good idea?

Man I do enjoy this game but it can really frustrate me sometimes. I wish you could use Quiet and D-horse at the same time. I was doing a mission last night with Quiet, and then it wants me to run 2000m to catch a moving vehicle.

Always deploy with a vehicle as soon as you've upgraded the Fulton to capture them.

Always.

Quiet + Vehicle is the best combo.

Don't watch the credits, they spoil things. There's a mod floating around that removes the credits on the PC version.

Don't stress about the second half. Gameplay stays super cool, and there's some of the old missions back with additional restrictions applied (making them harder). The subsistence missions are so fun.

I've never found the kids at motherbase.

The next main mission I have involves
stopping tanks
but I don't have the appropriate weapons and can't develop them yet, what's the best way to get my team levels up? Just fulton everything that moves?

You can stop tanks when you sneak to them (throw a gas grenade so they don't see you) and fulton them out.
I had the bigger fulton earlier than an appropriate rocket launcher...

I have a cargo fulton but it's not big enough for stuff like vehicles etc yet, it can only retrieve smaller gun emplacements and the like.

In this mission
the tanks are moving along the road
so sneaking up to them seems like it would be difficult. Can you plant C4 on a road and then blow it up when they approach?

Pretty much.

OK, guess I'll try that then.

I wish boss would talk more. I've been listening to the tapes while getting from a to b but it feels so hollow sometimes. Having miller and ocelot have to talk on the radio while watching snake mime the scene is upsetting.

I've
Just brought Quiet back to MB
so i don't know if it picks up abit.

Also
Are there more maps to play than Afghan and Africa?

Apart from that i love the fuckin shit out of this game.

Yeah for some reason I also didn't think to deploy vehicles for transportation purposes, will definitely do it during the new playthrough.

Yes you definitely can.

Leaving a carboard box on the road should also make them stop to investigate, allowing you to sneak up from behind. You can also leave D-Horse in the middle of the road or have it poop there to stop them.

C4 definitely works, just plant a lot of them at the same time.

just finished ep22, the FOB tutorial.
Ehhhhh, it came off as an annoying nuisance. :/

I don't like this game mechanic in my single player game.
But, I'll give it a shot a see how it goes.

Overall impressions after 60hours? Sublime gameplay (love the movement, shooting, everything!), Fox engine greatness (maxed out on PC) and the amount of stuff I can do/explore.

On the other hand, the story (which is my primary interest) clearly suffers from the open world approach.
There's no sense urgency, no MGS-level story exposition (IMHO) and I don't like the almost-mute Venom Snake. :/
This is more PW2 than MGSV.

It looks like I'm at the point where I need to do random ops to progress the story. No story missions or "important" side ops available to me at the moment, or yellow tapes.

I also believe I finished the
wandering MB soldier
side-plot. WTF.

Backup Back Down is such a frustrating mission. I beat it one try, but now I'm trying to do all of the optional objectives and it is just endless trial and error. I think it might have put me off finishing the game.

Played the game offline to avoid that mechanic.

I do the same thing with the Souls games.

Why would you ruin the game like that for yourself?

Just continue with the story.

Do the side stuff later for fun.

I loved Backup, Backdown. Got an S-rank on the first attempt where I didn't die. And the optional tasks are not too bad. Use D-Dog to help you find the prisoners. Interpret soldiers to learn where the soldiers looking for the escaped prisoner are The rest are straightforward.

Just as a heads up: there's a buddy development item that is unlocked after beating mission
40
. Do that first chance you get, if you want it.

So am I screwed
for the platinum if I let quiet leave? Right now I have seen the real ending and am 100 hours into the game, but my band with quiet is around 40, so I haven't seen the quiet ending and she is still with me. I also don't have the butterfly emblem because I never use her. Am I fucked?

Thanks.

Do mission 3 over and over again till you get the emblem and let her kill everyone. Her killing will let you get the emblem and not tranqing. I think you'll be fine.
