Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain |OT2| A Franchise Robbed Of Its Future

Friend of mine was playing it on XBone and just lost his over 100 hour save. He already beat the game, but hadn't done mission 45. From what it looks like, his console tried to save when Xbox Live went down and that somehow corrupted the save. Anyone else here have anything like this happen?

I nominate Code Talker as one of the most annoying characters of 2015. Before I got to sleep at night I hear him saying
vocal cord parasites
over and over in my head. That mixed with Quiet's humming nonsense I believe I'm slightly crazier than before I played this game.

Kojima's master plan?

Thanks. I'll do that as soon as possible and
grind out all of Quiet's gear so I can have my old emblem back.
.

You don't need to grind much for her I think, unless you're talking about the R&D levels. Her rifles are worth it though as she literally makes almost all outdoor fights easy.

You have been successfully infected by
Words that kill.

Pop the chopper at the start of the mission. Those things are annoying as shit. If you blow it up far enough away from the camp it won't alert anyone.

The escort targets tend to stay still, but when you tell them to go they move forward a lot more than you'd expect. I mined the entrance into the valley (where I came from) to buy me enough time to sweep the valley with a silenced sniper rifle and Quiet. When I went back for the escorts they could just run without worrying, cause the opposition was dead.

I called my chopper in and they actually blew up the enemy chopper for me

The next main mission I have involves
stopping tanks
but I don't have the appropriate weapons and can't develop them yet, what's the best way to get my team levels up? Just fulton everything that moves?

You should be able to find a appropriate weapon in the level somewhere.
Hidden somewhere or on the back of a soldier.

Hey guys, still very early in the game. I really don't want to manage my staff at Mother Base. Is the "auto-assign whole staff" button something I have to set only once, or do I have to do that constantly whenever I get new people at MB?

is that the mission where you look for a truck? Trying to not spoil anything.

If it is, and you completed it.

I tranq'd them with sleeping grenades. Got to the truck before it left the airport, and approached the truck while in crawl stance. You can use the active decoys to lure them into a corner, then unleashed some z-nades, went down pretty fast.

Thats the one. I just lured a group of them from the truck and air-striked their asses back to the stone age. The weird thing tho is that it says I defeated them but there were at least 4 others that werent in the blast zone.

Yes go to staff management and press the right stick in if youre on console. Not sure what it is on PC. It says it in the staff management menu.

It happens automatically. Everyone you fulton will be sorted according to their stats, you don't have to manage any of that if you don't want to.

New folks are auto assigned appropriately

Right, so just so I understand correctly, I only have to do this ONCE? Any new people I fulton for the rest of the game after I set it to auto-sort will be auto sorted as well?

New folks are auto assigned appropriately

Thanks!

Afaik, if for example you r&d team is full with b guys and you recruit a s guy, he won't be assigned to the team, as long as there is no space for him.

And there are some special people who need to be in the right team. But they have pretty bad stats, so if you do auto assign they will be send to the waiting room.

Is it fine to just keep one Weapon Specialist in a field? Like one Shotgun Specialist and one Assault Rifle Specialist? For example, do I need to keep multiple shotgun specialists in contract?

60 hrs in
34% completion rate
just finished ep22, the FOB tutorial.
Ehhhhh, it came off as an annoying nuisance. :/

I don't like this game mechanic in my single player game.
But, I'll give it a shot a see how it goes.

Overall impressions after 60hours? Sublime gameplay (love the movement, shooting, everything!), Fox engine greatness (maxed out on PC) and the amount of stuff I can do/explore.

On the other hand, the story (which is my primary interest) clearly suffers from the open world approach.
There's no sense urgency, no MGS-level story exposition (IMHO) and I don't like the almost-mute Venom Snake. :/
This is more PW2 than MGSV.
This time around the gameplay is actually good though.

You will come across so many specialist in the field that it really doesn't matter if you lose one and you don't need multiple of same specialist.

Seriously I am still so salty about MISSION 45 SPOILER
Quiet leaving forever. Seriously I just started using Quiet and almost immediately she leaves.

Preach! :)
MGS was always: amazing story, crappy/bad/subpar gameplay (save for MGS4)
MGS V seems like the exact opposite.
Still, too early to have any sort of verdict.
Overall, the game is a huge net positive.

What? MGS games have always had really good gameplay. MGSV has probably the best gameplay but it is very different style game compared to earlier games.

Holy damn, I picked the game up again after I got a little burnt out and you guys sure weren't kidding with the "Mission
45
is hard" posts. Eventually got fed up and tried to cheese through it with a trainer but apparently there are enemies near the end that will OHKO you regardless of health lol

E: lingons inf health + pox911s inf health code together worked just in case sb else is also having trouble with this

That's not how it works in my experience. I always use auto assign, my teams are always at full capacity, and I never see S ranked guys in the waiting room. I'm pretty sure if you recruit a guy with S R&D, he will be assigned to R&D and the lowest ranked guy in there will be bumped to the waiting room (or a non-full team).

And there are some special people who need to be in the right team. But they have pretty bad stats, so if you do auto assign they will be send to the waiting room.

I'm not sure how auto assign works with skills, but I would hope that if your only X specialist is B ranked, he won't get bumped to the waiting room for an S ranked soldier with no special skill.

I go through my waiting room periodically and fire people. The only skills I've seen there are Diplomat and Troublemaker.

It is taking so damn long to reset the world through combat deployments

The effect is temporary as well. I got to the point where I had 0 available combat deployments for enemy equipment and within 10 hours of gameplay they were all available again.

I have a cargo fulton but it's not big enough for stuff like vehicles etc yet, it can only retrieve smaller gun emplacements and the like.

In this mission
the tanks are moving along the road
so sneaking up to them seems like it would be difficult. Can you plant C4 on a road and then blow it up when they approach?

OK, guess I'll try that then.

Yep, c4, along with decoys (which you should develop asap imo), are some of the most useful weapons in the game. Put a bunch of c4 down, and then put down an obstruction in the road. Good candidates are d-horse or d-dog. Decoys and vehicles can work great too, especially in missions where you can't use those two buddies.

Also great for helicopters. Either plant them where they land, or think outside the box:

Also if you have normal un-armored and non-alerted vehicles coming, decoys and boxes work great in addition to horse poop for jeeps. Hell they even work great together:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nvvdAXWZWdM

You can also throw decoys in front of a vehicle while chasing them as a last ditch effort to slow them down long enough to fulton.

Finally, another great trick is to make decoy bombs. Just slap down 3-4 c4 (or 10 if its a strong late-game enemy), put a directional mine down, and then throw an active decoy on top. Enemies will rush right up and kill themselves.

SPOILERS FOR MISSION 16 don't click until after:
Skulls fall for it all the time, moths to a flame. Also works on metallic archea extreme mode but you need to put down a ton of c4 each time.

Decoy Dogs

I wish I could put a decoy in there.

How do I unlock the gunsmith missions? I'm in Act 2, and have done quite a few side ops around the 100 mark and 107 isn't unlocking. This is one of my gripes with this game.

Can someone tell me when
you lose Quiet? I don't want to inadvertently lose her.

These are the conditions that make that portion of the game happen.
- Max bond with Quiet
- Complete mission 42
- No butterfly emblem.

If you don't have the emblem on when you complete mission 42 and have Quiet at max bond, she'll leave and you'll start her final story missions.

If you keep the last one on, you'll indefinitely delay it.

In terms of loadout? You can always have the helicopter drop a new one for you during a mission so not being properly equipped is never really an issue.

Sure, but that also means you need to find yourself a little hidey hole to call up the iDroid and call in the air drop as well.

Done with mission
45
... So
Quiet did activate the English vocal cord parasites. But wasn't Big Boss infected too then since he was in reach when she started speaking? I remember he smoked some kind of anti-parasite pipe in Code Talkers mansion but wasn't the effect temporary?

I don't think the parasites are instantly 100% transmitted once someone starts speaking. Most dangerous epidemics don't have anywhere near a 100% transfer rate. Even HIV (which, yes, is a virus not a parasite) has something like a < 10% transmission rate.

It's probably explained in the tapes but all the Code Talker tapes went in one ear and out the other.

That's pretty late in the game, I'll probably just let that ride. How many missions do I play after that? Also, does keeping her help for those later missions?

Yeah, I've only listened to one so far and gave up, haha.
I'll check them out after I finish the medical station storyline.
