Whoa, if you knock down power line poles and the electrical lines fall on an enemy they get hurt.

Old MGS games level design felt like deliberately designed stealth puzzles. The open world doesn't really lend itself to that sort of thing. You would go through MGS3 tranqing guard after guard, because you knew another interesting/amazing boss encounter was coming up.

In MGSV so far, I'm at the point where I don't want to play the game because I might have to face
the skulls.

I dunno man, that level design is still there entirely... all the larger base camps would straight up have been levels or something imho. (They're still too damn small imho)

Chapter 2 (Credits of Chapter 1 character) spoilers:

Talk to
Paz
, get in the AAC, return to medical platform, talk to
Paz
, repeat.

This is because I did all the
wondering base members
before visiting. So tedious. My fault, I guess?

The Phantom cigars work sometimes, so you can use those instead.

Also, on another note, I'm legit pissed that a good chunk of music cues I loved in this game aren't in the official OST.

Don't send a soldier to do a gardener's job.

I lost an A++ rank soldier with the Botanist skill to plants, they're the most dangerous thing in the game. D:

Speaking of, I got my first S rank dispatch, and I don't want to do it because I have only a 55 percent chance of completing it. I'm scared.

I know which you're talking about, I've tried it with 56% and 72% success rate. Failed every time, wait for S++ rank soldiers and save yourself the time, lol.

No MGS game has ever made me feel like true world renowned soldier like V.

The feeling of getting dropped in a hot zone, tackling an outpost with a myriad of gadgets and hauling ass when it all goes to shit/slinking out when your mission is complete.

Then cinematically returning to Mother Base a bloody stained mess with your troops saluting you as you arrive, before proceeding to CQC the troublemakers in the base.

Good Lord this game is soooo good.

It's burrowed it's way into my brain and it's all I think about at work/when driving/eating/taking a shit.

God bless you Hideo.

What exactly does "Equippable by security team." mean? I've yet to find a menu where I can do so, and I can't stay connected to the server long enough to find it.

I can see what Kojima was trying to do with that jeep ride with the main theme kicking in but boy did the execution miss the mark. Was completely hollow for me. It's amazing when climbing a ladder to Snake Eater is more emotional than constant exposition with recycled "Yeah, those are more burned bodies." on either side of the road.

My FOB's finally starting to do some work, they fend off most intruders by themselves now. Just one question, when I set the security settings to full preparedness, when do I pay the security costs? The moment someone invades that particular platform?

Quick Q

People are talking about accidentally getting mission 46 before mission 45. I don't want this to happen.

Am I safe
doing the Paz photo hunt?

I assumed it doesn't since the only acknowledgement I recall for bond increasing is the results screen that is only for missions and not side ops but maybe I'm wrong.

Does it just increase without telling you then?

Outside of the mission completion stats screen, it doesn't show actual progression.

I was checking the bond level through the development screen as you need a specific bond for certain items with Quiet, it was definitely going up.

Other ways you can check it outside of these two are when you're actually selecting a buddy.

Can someone let me know what I'm missing to unlock mission
46
?

I've done:
All the yellow missions and side ops
All ten wandering mother base soldiers and ensuing Paz Press Triangles
Mission 45
And I've done 66 side ops.
Didn't wanna go into spoiler thread as I want to experience it for myself

I wish there were more music tapes.

And more that fit the time period too. I love Friday I'm in Love but it's not an 80s track, and there a plenty of Cure tracks that would have fit that bill.

No Elegia is a weird omission since I came to associate that track with MGSV so much through the trailer.

Can never tell which mission is gonna be an epic infiltration with boss fight haha. Kinda like it to be honest. Always caught by surprise.

This is metal gear stealth perfected. Every metal gear concept is here in some form. And the stealth is sooooo good. Where enemies go when they hear shit or think you are somewhere. The fact that hearing noise doesn't always give you away

There was a mission where it looked like some shit was going to go down if I didn't act fast. Didn't know what to do so I improvised and shot a missle straight into the middle of the camp. This distracted everyone, allowed me to finish the mission and I still never got an enemy alert. Fucking awesome.

I do cringe a bit when heroism goes down when being seen at outposts. Sometimes I'm fucking lazy and don't feel like going around all enemies for the umpteenth time yet I am penalized slightly for it.

I also pretty much have to carry a missile launcher all the time. Never know when suddenly there are tanks or gunships or whatever surprise they want to shell out. I also always need the tranq secondary since you never know when you want long range sleep, leaving me with only a suppressed assault rifle option. So my loadouts rarely vary much at all

In fact, due to the alert penalties I don't even know why there are so many gun options without suppressors. Hell why are there shot guns. It's not like the game ever rewards you for being a one man army. So my loadouts rarely very much at all. I tried a pistol, grenade launcher, sniper combo which is ok but overall much weaker at stealth

Just have to say what a fucking rush Missions 28 and 29 are. S ranking those were glorious.

This. Game is an incredible experience. One of the most memorable and glorious of the last several years for me. Everything feels so right.

Surely I'm not the only one who finds this incarnation of Big Boss my favourite of the series? I listen to every tape as well and I think he works wonderfully in the context of the story. There are instances of muteness that actually work in certain scenes where others might think he should be reacting.

I think every completed side-op increased the bond with Quiet by 3-5.

He's good in the tapes but I wish he talked more in the games direct narrative. Otherwise it feels like it's just ocelot monologuing constantly and it gets a bit tiring. Often snake barely responds to anything at all making it seem like his subordinates are driving everything some of the time

This tranq sniper is fucking terrible, cant hit shit thats more then 50m away especially with helmets. Having more then a 4x scope would help.

This riot smg sucks ass too, might as well be using the water pistol.

Questions, Gaf:

1. Can I play this game entirely (for the most part, anyhow) with a silenced pistol?
2. Is this fun?
3. Are there multiple pistols I can trick out?

Cheers!

Yes. I don't think is bad but is not keeping my interest either.

"Another specialist to go rescue", "another base that is in need of sabotage" can get you so far. And it doesn't help that every time I have to be shown the credits, wait in the helicopter and then use a medium of transportation totravel through this uninteresting and devoid of character world.

Yeah everything about the helicopter is so tedious. And every time I go back to Mother Base I can just feel my soul slipping out of my body as I step onto this personality deficient micromanagement hub. There's something very clinical and off putting about the game's presentation of its world, characters, missions, progression, systems, etc.; a vibe I never got from the first 4 MGS titles. The only time it works for me completely is the moment to moment gameplay of being stealthy in enemy territory, but I have no drive to actually want to go mission to mission. It's a strange feeling. While in the middle of a mission I'm thinking "These are incredible stealth mechanics" but in the back of my head I'm not enjoying the game they're housed in. I wish I could feel the spark that others do, but the whole experience is soooo flat IMO.

Anyone else finding the camera way too close to tanks to control them properly? I find my self getting stuck in places really easily because I have no way to tell where I'm going.

1. Yes but you shouldn't.
2. Gameplay, yes.
3. Yes, a whole bunch. Both cosmetic and proper customization.

Is there a spoiler free guide anywhere to getting the true ending?

You don't really need a guide, just keep playing.

Yes, Yes and Yes.

There are situations were other weapons or gadgets are needed, but pretty much all the minute to minute gameplay can be done with a suppressed pistol, and yes it's fun, I'm 52 hours in and still like using it. And there are multiple pistols to customize and convert into the tranq or tranq pistols into lethal ones, and a lot of the parts are usable between them also.

1 & 2 - Kind of. You will probably eventually want to use silenced sniper rifle in some situations. And usually want them to be tranq pistols & sniper rifles so you can fulton (kidnap) the people. But you will need to use rocket launchers every so often against some of the bosses (things like Metal Gear - I'm not spoiler tagging that as name me a MG game where you don't fight a Metal Gear?).

3 - There's a bunch of pistol options, but a bit later in the game you get the ability to customize weapons. Add a silencer to a pistol you like that didn't have one before (as example).

I'm pretty sure you need a sniper rifle with a suppressor to transfer it to another rifle. Only like-weapon parts work I believe.

The pistols you get at the start aren't very good and the suppressors only last like 10 shots. And if you equip a pistol you lost your core ranged tranq capability.

So yeah you can do it, but compared to even the starting AR when it comes to head shots and shit I don't know why anyone would do this. I tried this at the start thinking I'd go all jack Bauer and shit but effectiveness went down the tubes

I am at mission
35
right now.
So I need a amount of resources/gmp or do I need to S-Rank and do every mission objective inside the epsiodes ?

Just play any story (non-repeat) missions that come up and listen to yellow tapes. Other than that you can do whatever you want and it'll happen over time.
