Ok then fellow arm chair gamers. Sony and Microsoft have come to you to sort out their new console launches. Both are scared of what the other is doing and they are looking to you as captain and chief to lead them into a new generation. To keep it (somewhat) realistic you must stick within the points system. If you would buy a users console then give them a like, comment and hit that subscribe button... ok well let's just stick to the thumbs up. 😉

First up decide your price point this will tell you how many points you've got to work with. Just remember console gamers are a tight bunch and should you choose a price point over $100 dollars they will not be happy with you.

$399 = 800 points
$499 = 1000 points
$599 = 1200 points
$699 = 1400 points

Next subtract your points depending on the parts you chose to go with. Remember gamers are very discerning and anything less than the very best will displease them greatly.

Low 8tf, 8gb ram, budget cpu = -200
Medium 10tf, 16gb ram, mid tier cpu = -600
High 14tf, 32gb ram, high end cpu = -800

The points you have left leave you with some snazzy features and games to add. Just remember console gamers generally want it all and so should you launch with no great games they will write angry forum posts about you on Neogaf.

1: Launch window game *inset name here* -200
2: Full improved BC -200
3: Free Multiplayer -400
4: Free bundled game *insert name here* -400

Here's my console (this is actually quite tough)

$699 1400 points
High 14tf, 32gb ram, high end cpu -800
Full improved BC -200
Launch Window: Soul Reaver Remake -200
Launch Window: Silent Hill Remake -200

are ya winning son?

Great builds guys. Surprised no one is authorizing any amazing launch window games though. Even the best machine might struggle with nothing amazing 1st party wise.

I wonder if anyone has the balls to most expensive build, cheapest parts and none stop dream games in the launch window. That would be hard to weigh up. Getting totally ripped off with the purchase price but knowing the console had so many amazing games coming out shortly afterwards you couldn't get anywhere else.

Going to need to raise your price there, free multiplayer is a massive cost a manufacture will have to eat 🤔😉

They both need to up their games honestly. At this point I'll likely buy a PS5 somewhere along the line, or possibly exactly when Demon's Souls remake is released. Don't care for Spiderman (Really the first game was okay, but overrated, a bit better than I:SS) or Ratchet & Clank. Xbox had Avowed, but that needs a bit more footage and info, but it has the advantage of being a new IP. Honestly, had a new Banjo & Kazooie and a new Perfect Dark been announced, I'd likely have instantly pre-ordered the next Xbox.

Then we've heard very little else about features, making me even less interested in throwing myself into it at once, no matter the price.

Honestly, if you don't sell me on the console, then the price point don't matter. I paid full price at launch for my PS3 and never regretted it. I wish it hadn't died, because backwards compatibility was great and Motorstorm and the leap of the HD era made release awesome.

No one ever is, it's how you handled it that shows your true character 👍
It could have been anybody else, it would have had the same effect.

499 would be nice, with a big launch game, and improved BC, as far as I am concerned. Too bad Halo won't be that game.

I'm Sony and here's my $499 console (1000 points):

  • 10TF, 16GB RAM, mid-tier CPU (600 points)
  • Launching with Demon's Souls and an exclusive Star Wars game, as it turns out that we've partnered with EA to have our secret new studio in San Diego finish the cancelled SW game that was in development at Visceral Games a couple of years ago (400 points)

Good price point, 2 amazing games and a decent spec. BC is a painful loss but otherwise I like it alot 😁

The build is really dependant on the console maker. Sony delivers games throughout the gen but launch is usually kinda meh. MS usually front loads a launch and there's a dearth of content the mid to late gen. Nintendo is usually solid start to finish.

You can always find a way to add BC down the line - as MS did with XOne - but the amazing games have to be there since day 1, because what the early adopters of a console really want is to enjoy new experiences that take full advantage of the new hardware.

Hello, I am Donald Spencer head of America's best and most wonderful gaming company: XBOX.

We don't have any big IP for our console launch but fear not I have a cut a fantastic deal, like you have never seen, we have made the biggest deal of the century, It's only something I could have accomplished. And I did it for you, my beautiful american gamer, I swear to you, this is the best deal in the history of video game deals. We are being threatened by the Radical Japanese game companies and their big "Single player agenda pushing games" and we will fight back to protect our beautiful gaming industry.

We here at XBOX do things differently, we focus on our beautiful intelligent customers and the values that have always represented our game culture, like violence, sports and multiplayer games. Having said that, my beautiful company in collaboration with our amazing and wonderful friends at EA sports and Activision have signed a multi billion dollar multi year agreement to make the Call of Duty and FIFA franchises exclusive to Xbox and PC. Together we will beat the radical Japanese company and their radical "single player gamers". Make XBOX great Again! MXGA.

$499 1000 points
Medium specs -600
- 200 Call of Duty exclusivity
- 200 FIFA Exclusivity

"Next Generation" but people choosing 10TF Medium Specs.

Is this some sort of peasant joke that I don't understand?

I must admit while this is mainly for fun I did want to make a point of showing how price and specs have to align. Theres often alot of posters that want the best tech and $399 and that's just not going to happen. Everything is a weighted decision.

That been said it's not all about specs as Nintendo proves time and again. What about this;

$599 1200 points
Low 8tf, 8gb ram, budget cpu = -200
Silent Hill Remake
Golden Eye Remake
Half life 3
The Witcher 4
Uncharted 5

I'm trying to remember the time the cost of consoles went down in price. Minimum buy-in gonna be 450-500 and poor folks gonna poor-folk. The good news is there's really nothing great to play right now anyways.
