Why are we always talking about Sony and Microsoft in the console war when Nintendo is the only clear winner?

The swirch has made a lot of progress in selling third party games too but it did it at the expense of combining 2 markets.

You mean TONS of Amazing NEW 1st party games and an exclusive BloodBorne. ALL at 4k/60/120fps. Yep, and this is just the Beginning.
lol you guys are really running with this nonsense. The only exclusive bloodborne is on ps4 mate. Whatever crap this is will likely be ported over as well.

The reveal was a disaster. Hardly anything new. Last gen graphics and costs more than a ps5. Just a complete mess from top to bottom.

manys tried ALL fail

game over
I mean many tried with the console market until Sony and Xbox came along, but we'll see I guess.

Nintendo pulled off an all-time great pivot and launch with Switch 1, but they also face massive concentration risk on the handheld market now as a result of it.

Lol it's wild how many salty haters there are. I will truly never understand why people root against stuff... Then again, I buy all new consoles regardless of who makes them, so I get to enjoy everything.

Because games like Elden Ring are just now being released on a Nintendo platform.

There are basically 4-5 different game industries. Ranked in order of popular interest:

1. AAA Cutting Edge Tech
2. Nintendo

3. Indie/Lower Budget
4. Mobile

Nintendo bowed out of competing in bracket #1 with the Wii, and it turned out to be an incredibly smart move. Their games speak for themselves, and they benefit less than others from spending on tech.

Every time Nintendo releases something the industry pays attention, but then it's back to the "regular" industry where there's frankly just more to talk about.

In a given generation Nintendo might have 2/5 of the top 5 games, 3/10 of the top 10 games, and 5/20 of the top 20 games.

Might also be the fact Nintendo really only get coverage when it's the cycle of a new Mario or Zelda etc which happens like once a gen with maybe a crossover at the end of the cycle.

They hardly get third party AAA games due to hardware levels and in the past there was push back about some censorship or something that stopped devs caring. Sure they can port Witcher 3 and it can play with brutal framerates and look like a watercolour painting through eyes riddled with cataracts, but realistically most big games just don't go to Nintendo. So new third party release doesn't give Nintendo traction. Might change on the Switch 2, but for generations its been that way.

Also, there is no winning a fake imaginary war between fanboys.

Its because there is no longer a war, it was won by Microsoft already, the series X is the most powerfull console even the PS5 PRO is stuttering as it cant handle what the X can.

Cause many fans are always dick measuring for some reason and always try to downplay each others and others, I automatically leave any internet discussion where someone throws a "pipero" or "pilero" (spanish slurs console warriors use to call each other) because it's tiring, they're the only communities doing that shit, they shit on Switch power but once you throw PC in the pool they'll cry about cost and whatever that would also be applicable to Switch compared to PS/Xbox, they'll try to make the worst ports on PC the norm, OMG they're just so infantile, and if I or anyone else try to explain some tech stuff (innocently so...) they'll continue their trolling and bs non-stop.

I know many PC and Nintendo gamers are also insufferable but most fans are self-confined in spaces of their own and mostly don't give a single fuck about any other platform, so way more PS and Xbox fans are too used to console war that they cannot just talk about gaming without injecting it in everything.

Here, took me 10 seconds via Perplexity:

The respective revenues of Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft from their gaming businesses are as follows:
• Nintendo: For the fiscal year 2024-2025, Nintendo projects total gaming revenue of approximately $7 billion, reflecting a 31.2% year-on-year decline due to reduced hardware and software sales.
• Sony: Sony's gaming segment (Game & Network Services) generated $23.4 billion in revenue for the nine months ending December 31, 2024. Extrapolated for the full fiscal year, this suggests annual gaming revenue could exceed $30 billion, driven by strong PlayStation 5 sales and related services.
• Microsoft: For its fiscal year 2024 (July 2023 to June 2024), Microsoft reported gaming revenue of $15.47 billion. However, quarterly data from fiscal year 2025 indicates an upward trend, with Q2 (ending December 2024) alone generating $6.58 billion, suggesting annual gaming revenue for FY25 could surpass $20 billion, bolstered by the Activision Blizzard acquisition.

Sony is no. 1, Microsoft no. 2, Nintendo in distant third.

Lol wait until Sony and Xbox enter the handheld chat and bully Nintendo out of thay market too.
The fact that you would only have a Switch because you feel you have no choice doesn't mean we do too. Most Switch owners have a Switch because they want a Switch and Nintendo games, that's something you can't overcome.

Nah people will still want their Mario, DK, Zelda, etc.
These things are cyclical.

There was a period of time where Nintendo had all these IPs and still failed (GameCube, Wii U, to a lesser extent the N64).

2010s kids will eventually outgrow these things just like 1980s kids did.

Yeah, honestly at this point Nintendo is the only one making the case to own their console. They've leaned fully into the games.

Sony and MS just make budget PCs at this point and both of their in house groups are just making uninspired, homogenized trash at this point.

That Switch 2 Direct was so bad that it single-handedly put XBOX back on the map. Now I'm actually curious about that ROG Ally portable XBOX. I mean if it's more powerful than the Switch 2, has access to Steam, and if MS can get devs to optimize games for it, there's really no need for a Switch 2 unless you're desperate to play the same Mario and Zelda rehashes.

2 Days ago I wouldn't have agreed with you, but now I'm in almost full-agreement.

Series S just got a new lease of life on the market too.

Switch won. Remember Wii U before that?

Wii "won". Remember GameCube before that?

Nintendo is highly inconsistent. Mega successes and complete bombs. PlayStation has broke 100 million every generation except the PS3 which was 80-something. (Compared to 13-20 million of GC and Wii U).

Xbox is just irrelevant

you must be 12 my dude, have you forgotten about all the portables that came with better specs to take Nintendo out of the handheld race and failed miserably?

They were not directly competing for the living room for at least 3 generations.
Now it looks like they are making a return, yet it remains to be seen.

None of them were marketed or priced properly or had market mass.

Handhelds are a solved science by now, expect to see plenty of competition targeting the Switch 2's price point.

This is why Nintendo needed to be more creative with the hardware.. A Nintendo that is stagnant is more easily beatable than you think.

I have a feeling Sonys days in the lead are numbered. They share exclusives with PC. MS releasing a PC hybrid kills the need to buy PS as they put their games on steam. Having a closed console environment doesn't make sense anymore unless you're Nintendo.

Nintendo wins the console war cause they're the last man standing when it comes to exclusives.

Disagree unless Xbox official handheld is tied to windows 12 ( variant). The windows 12 npu listing and leaked nextbox npu might not be random.

Point is Nintendo is going to war with emulators and msft is going oem aka developer mode. I am hoping Xbox handheld is more of a pc than Xbox or I will go with windows variant due to all options gp/steam/gog/emulators.

But I thought PC and Xbox already killed PS years ago???

This only impacts future consumers not tied to the psn ecosystem aka trophies/bc ect.

The real chaos is 100 usd games and if devs can't provide AAA graphics. Cdpr can sell more cp2077 when next gen hits due to path T and other features for console owners due to new gps/cpu in these devices.

Select titles, my guy. Don't be a fanatic. I was sour on the Switch gen but they have my attention with Switch 2. See how easy it is to be reasonable and excited at the same time?

Only Nintendo can sell refrigerators to Eskimos... Touting online play and chat like they invented it... A PS3 eye-esque camera like it's the first of it's kind.. porting big last gen games like it's never been done on a handheld before. Sounds like they're on the right track to win over the suckers again.

Funny thing is Nintendo actually bullied Sony's Vita out of the handheld market years ago
Vita was a misguided device on a lot of levels (way too high BOM, the device had an OLED screen!), and it was a different environment.

People want to view this new Switch like it's 2018, but the environment is not the same at all. People have and will get more options.

Your acting like nintendo hasnt shat the bed before with the 64 gamecube & wii u

The switch was huge but success aint garunteed we dont know how well the 2 will i have a feeling it aint gonna sell aswell

People have short memories.

Nintendo have never had back to back successful home consoles.

They were on a huge losing streak after the NES. The SNES sold less than the NES. The N64 sold less than the SNES and the Gamecube then sold less than the N64.

The struck gold with the Wii, threw it away with the Wii U and then got success again with the Switch.

Previously they also had a successful handheld consoles business to fall back on, but now they only have the single system. With the current prices announced, this could go badly for Nintendo.

MP4 looks like Halo Reach with Vanilla WoW graphics. You have to have a value proposition or performance, and the Switch 2 doesn't fulfil either. I'm part of the problem because I will still get a launch edition but I feel NIntendo are trying to push OG SNES prices on a system that is not worth it. I think there's enough friction here for it to be a bit concerning.

The launch will be fine, all new hardware are front loaded anyway in terms of capacity and demand.
