Microsoft E3 conference: June 4th 10:00 AM PDT

To be fair, though, MS has had the worst recent conferences by far. It hasn't even been close.

Also, LOL at the Kinect hate in here. Deal with it, GAF.

Eh, that's pretty harsh. All 3 platform holders have had horrible conferences lately.

Was it 2011 where we saw a demonstration of Kinect dashboard navigation...

And it was almost exactly the same as the one we saw the year before (even down to the demonstrator)?

So Sony is once again last. Once everyone is tired and burned and half of the journalist skip their press. So cute. Going first is the best thing to do. Excuse to see what your opponent has first is stupid.

obviously halo 4 is what i'm most excited for, but the unveiling of forza horizon could be incredible too (or a total train wreck)

They'll spend more time playing CoD on stage than Halo4. :/

I'm very interested in what they have in store. Is it a NFS type thing? Open world? It's ex codemasters and Bizarre people right?

I expect a solid chunk of time dedicated to showing off Windows 8/Windows Phone 8/Xbox Live integration.

Also expect time to be spent showing off new entertainment apps, they've been talking about how they have a bunch of stuff coming later in the year.

Games wise I expect a couple of the big 3rd party games to get shown off, Halo 4, Forza Horizons, XBLA and Kinect stuff. Wouldn't surprise me if they had some secret unannounced game but also wouldn't surprise me if they didn't.

They aren't last, unless you mean last of the day. Nintendo's going last on Tuesday.

The second year in a row I won’t be able to see the conferences live. Last year I was staying on an island without internet, and this time I’m in Istanbul.

I am constantly suprised that there is such high expectations by people for MS at any event, while usually bemoaning that it will be terrible.

Usually you can see who is more critical, regardless if the presentation is good. Well, backhanded compliments are all the rage these days.

LOL at the blindness here. MS has vastly outperformed the other 2 for several years running. If MS gets a B+ for each of last several conference, the best any of the others have managed is a C.

And it still wasn't close, that's how bad MS was.

See my previous post. No matter how much you would like for MS to have performed badly, they vastly outperformed the two. MS destroyed them in the conference and the results since reflect that. As I have mentioned previously you might want to consider the words behind E3.

Call of Duty Black Ops 2
"Wasn't that a great opening?"
*insert dickwaving PR comments about sales: Kinect + Xbox 360*
"Still the most popular console ever!"
More Kinect games to continue support for casual gamers
*demo Skype across XBox + PC*
"Isn't that all cool?"
Peter Moore on stage for typical EA Sports releases.
"People watch a lot of videos online, and more so than ever with Xbox. Last year blah blah thousand hours."
"We announce our partnership with leagues and add more sports packages."
NHL, NBA, NFL and others passes revealed.
Show off Summer 2012 XBLA montage.
"Before we go, one more thing."
Exclusive Halo 4 Gameplay Trailer

One hour presentation.

Don't really expect much this year.

It's not like "winning E3" ever translates into dominating marketshare in North America. Given the X360's unprecedented sales performance this late in its life cycle I've got to say E3 has accomplished exactly what Microsoft has intended for it.

E3 is all about "framing your message" for the media to regurgitate over the next year in a positive light. Microsoft has been consistently delivering here. For an example of how "not" to frame your message, look no further than Nintendo's deliberately vague Wii U unveiling.

That being said, I DO have high expectations for their conference... in 2013.

Love MS and Nintendo conferences.

Can't wait for Halo 4 and Forza Horizon (maybe a glimpse at FM5 too :D).

Interesting in Fable the Journey and if Ryse will see the light of the day. Curious about the future of Kinect too (more Dance Central + Kinect Sports or something different this year?).

Absolutely. They crushed Sony and Nintendo. It was a landslide victory. Of course most folks don't take a rational view of these things so...

The presentation itself is slick, and better than either of the other two. Most people, including myself, take more issue with the content (and the amount of a particular kind of content).

From a business standpoint it's outstanding though. Just look at the papers tech consumer section the following day.

In presentation? No, Sony and Nintendo's where better.

Large, sweaty men drowning in awkward silences and Wiimotes that don't work, don't make for good presentation.

If you take out the Kinect stuff maybe but I think the best E3 conference in the past couple of years was Nintendo 2010

I hope MS bring the big guns. Is there any none Kinnect title besides Halo 4 and most likely COD will show up at the conference?

I love this gif so much.

Presentation of MS showcase is always great. Content was lackluster the last two years.
Hoping for some Horizon footage. Halo 4 is a given and hopefully some surprises (yeah right... a year before the big bang)

Yep.

I always go into these conferences thinking "What would mainstream media use to make a 20-30 second clip and blurb on?". Microsoft knows that's where they get the most news out. Not from the general gaming community. I just hope they find a good balance so we don't suffer for 60-90 minutes.

I'm just excited for the conference thread, after the past E3s MS gives me no real reason be excited for the actual conference.

So you already have your mind made up and just can't wait to enjoy all the trolling in the MS conference thread? That's what I'm reading here.

Did you see their 2010 and 2011 conferences?

I think what he's trying to say is MS has done the best to reach the masses with their conferences. E3 is one of the few, if not only, video game show that receives coverage from media outside of the usual gaming journalism. I don't know if that's true or not, I hate the masses =p

Pretty much true. CES and E3 are generally the only places that mainstream media will cover game announcements.

Reacting to an embarrassing conference is not trolling but like he said they've given me no reason to be optimistic or excited about their conference. Their last 2 were big jokes and based on how their system has been doing I expect the same thing. They treat these conferences like a big show for casuals now while the real show is all of the floor demos.

I love this gif so much.

Most of it will probably be first glimpses of games and content we already know is coming. I can't see any big surprises other than a Halo 4 single-player reveal.

Were probably gonna see lots of multiplatform games like Tomb Raider, Ass Creed 3, MGS:R, DoA5, etc. with some timed-exclusive DLC thrown in the mix. Core exclusives are up on in the air at this point. The only exclusive I can think of is the new Forza World that was leaked. Microsoft doesn't seem to care much about first-party support other than Kinect titles.

Those funny gifs aren't trolling, you have to be real sensitive to call that trolling.

Oh no, those are funny as hell, I thought you were talking about all the other ignorant trolling that usually takes place in these conference threads.

edit:

As I mentioned earlier in this thread, all 3 have had bad conferences the last couple years.

Besides, it sounds like smart business to do what they have been doing. I don't knock Sony for setting aside time for Move for the same reason. I can't say that I like it as a gamer, but I can see the logic for the reasons things turn out the way they do.
