Whats the consensus on the 3DS version? Decent? When it says it doesnt support download play does that mean if I purchase it from the eShop I cant use multiplayer? If the 3DS cant go online with the game by itself does that mean that you can never do G rank quests on the 3DS?

No, it just means it doesn't support single-card multiplayer.

maybe when he does the lunge attack on you? If he's not coated in slime his attack won't explode, so you might have enough time to at least get to a level2 charge in after he misses you by a hair.

Have had some success doing that, though it largely depends on what it does after. Like, if it doesn't do that sidestep->punch. Have had some of them do some crazy 180's. Also have had a measure of success standing between it's legs when it's attacking my friends.

Almost always get baited by that ground explosion though. ; -;

I just beat Qurwhatever. The bird thing on Level 3 hunt in Moga Village.

I thought this game was easy. THEN BAM, I barely beat it, and it took SO DAMN LONG. Fuck you, Great Jaggi, I knew I should have killed you first.

Its a fun fight the first time you do it, was intense :)

Not sure what they did in the maintenance on tuesday, but the game has become unplayable for me online since then. Constant disconnects, often barely a few seconds after I enter the lobby. Fuck this shit.

Boy, searching for unique mushrooms for the last 30-35 minutes was boring as fuck.

How do I enter the Sandy Plains? I think I've unlocked the area.

Take a quest there. D. Island/Moga Forest is the only area you can "free hunt" in from Moga Village, but all areas have missions called "Harvest Tour" that is basically the same thing.

Can you kill Ceadeus? He left wounded, do I have to do the same mission again to keep wounding him?

Do the mission again and his HP will carry over.

Took down my first Gobul! Tough tough fight for me. Pattern was confusing, damage was pretty high, didn't show signs of wear, but it feels good to finally take one down!

I really want to know that. If I use spread shot, does each arrow hit count towards poison buildup? I also wonder if the level I charge it has any effect.

I believe so. IIRC, the Poison bonus on the Queen Bow gives a bonus to Poison damage inflicted with your shots when using Poison Coating.
(And yeah, with the Spread shot, each shot counts towards Poison if you've got Poison Coating equipped.)

Good to know. I want to farm for ice crystals to upgrade my dual swords.

Yes.

Also, attributes on bows... Queen Bow has poison. Does that just increase poison chance with poison coating? Or does every shot carry a chance for poison?

That is on my list next, so I will see how I get on. :D

Are there only 3 Air Attacks with Bows? So far I have seen the exploding parachute one and what looks like loads of rocks falling from the sky. :D

I really want to know that. If I use spread shot, does each arrow hit count towards poison buildup? I also wonder if the level I charge it has any effect.

There are only three "Arc Shots", labeled as Wide, Focus, and Blast. Focus is just a smaller version of Wide, and Blast I believe does normal damage on top of whatever coating or element you have (like gunlance shots, barrel bombs, etc.).

Yes, every shot you fire with poison/paralyze/sleep adds up to a total against a monster, and once you get past a certain threshold (different for each monster), that status is applied. If you want to reapply that status, the threshold is raised each time. Since every shot counts, the multiple shots from Spread Lv. 3 or from Wide/Focus Arc Shots also count. Blast Arc Shots are a single hit, so they're better for high elemental or raw damage attacks.

Bows often have special boosts to a specific coating, like the Rathian and Wroggi bows having Poison boosts. This means that their poison shots do more status damage, getting you to that poison threshold faster. The armor skill Special Attack Up and the food skill Felyne Specialist also help. I often only need a Poison coating boost, along with Felyne Specialist, to get three poison applications on a monster with just 20 coatings. But you're also free to carry some Toadstools with you and craft them together with the empty vials they always leave at the beginning of missions.

If you talk to the weapon/armorsmith you can have him make gems/decorations that will give a coating boost through armor skills. "C.Poison, C.Exhaust", etc. They each give 2 points each, so remember that you'll have to set at least 5 of the same type of gem in your weapon+armor slots to activate the skill.

finally finished my Quru set for when i use my horn with you guys (dat + maestro). Now, I just need a rathian plate and I finish his set to tackle the baddies in HR2 with more confidence.

Carved a Rathian Plate from a chopped off tail in the woods~

Better keep that for a special occasion.

Currently biding time before taking on Ceadeus: making some armor/weapons, collecting ores/items/resources, etc.

Man, it seems like every piece of gear I'm missing at least one because I didn't find the right item yet. Does anyone know how to make Hunter Faulds S?

damn... they nerft the shit out of barioth. It used to be my nemesis... now its a 8 minute joke :7

The impression I get is that Duramboros is the new Barroth as far as a noob smasher is concerned, but he comes up a bit later than Barroth does in the Moga Village quests.

Argh, Gobul takes ages to die. I spend 35-40 mins fighting each time (I forgot to use the fishing trick). I hope I get better with a few more tries, and reduce the total time to at least 20-25 mins.

Ahh, finally it's Monster Hunter time. Going to tie up a few loose ends in the village before hopping online finally.

Gobul stories always kind of amuse me. The first time I fought him I had a pretty simple time taking him down, and ever since then I just have never been able to really take his fight seriously. It's led me dangerously close to dying a few times but for whatever reason I just can't ever bring myself to treat his fights like a big deal the way I do other monsters. I don't have as much of a mastery of his moves as, say, Rathian, but because of that first fight that expectation is just set.

Do you have online? I'm going to try farming Gobul to get better at that fight soon.

I am still getting used to the idea of battles that can last up to the entirety of the hunt time limit, hahaha. I guess I need to bring WAY more supplies than I did for the Qurupeco fight. I also need to figure out how the various bombs and stuff work, because my hack 'n slash method did not go very well.

Is there a beginners guide I can check out somewhere (I haven't looked at the OP for a long time, so I'll check there for one as well)? Because this game is way more complicated than I thought it would be, hahaha.

Most important things in a Quru fight you'll need.

Green Sharpness
Paintballs
Dung Bombs
Sonic Bombs

and a middle finger for when he goes down.

So I bought an armorcharm and it only seems to have increased my defense by 8. Kind of a waste of 25k z, unless I'm missing something.

Do people use bounce bombs at all? I think I've only seen one hunter use any so far. I started though and they seem pretty useful. Knocked Azure Rathalos out of the sky a bunch of times with them.

Gonna face Brachydios for the first time now. Almost done all of the village quests.

You can eventually combine it with something that increases your defense even more.

As soon as I finished HR3 I decided to farm a new armor set, getting one-shot or two-shotted was no fun at all. Need help with any HR2 hunts?

Crafted my first wroggi set, crafted insecticutters, and killed my first Rathian. Feels good man. Kinda wish I'd learnt a slower weapon than dual blades though, too newb friendly I think.

I'm going to make a GAF room if anyone is up, I've mostly been playing offline since none of my my buddies have a wii u so I guess I'll just grind up my hr, I'm at two currently and geared up solid till the end of low rank.

Ive been playing since mh1 but I like to help new players too, so anyone is welcome,

I'll just put GAF in its title with a 1234 pw in the normal 3 - 9 area

Pretty decent on flyers if you can bother to hit them.

I hear they act sorta like Torpedoes underwater.

Anyone got some suggested SA upgrade routes? I've got 3 SAs just sitting here, not sure what route to go with them.

E: Talking early game goals with it.

Yeeeaaah it's not great.

Eventually you'll be able to combine a better one, but still. That said, every little bit helps and can be the difference sometimes.

man I just had the best thought. Hunter Guide iOS.
If there was ever a game series in need of a mobile companion app, it's MonHun.
