Dead Rush looks CRAZY. How come that game never came out? It looks great in the screenshots :(
I knowwww... I wanted it so bad. I literally ache for it when I think about it. GTA + Zombies = perfect zombie game

Just over two months after Activision unveiled the hybrid of survival horror and driving action at the 2004 E3, it has summarily canceled the project. "We gave it an opportunity, but it didn't meet our standards as a big proposition," said Activision Publishing CEO Ron Doornick in a post-earnings report conference call today.

In development at Spider-Man 2 studio Treyarch, Dead Rush was to be released on the Xbox, PlayStation 2, and GameCube. It was to follow an amnesiac who wakes up in a coastal town racked by earthquakes and overrun with zombies.

Man, I REALLY wanted this game.
The story sounded stunning... following Dante's Inferno?!?

Why was it ever canned?!?!

(I was prolly the only one in the world following this game and wanting it released, heh)

"Prepare your mind and soul for the most terrifying, psychological thriller game ever conceived. Developed by the masterminds behind System Shock 2, the Lost is best described as Zelda meets Resident Evil. This next generation survival horror title challenges people to confront their most horrific fears in an expansive 3-D world - The 9 Circles of Hell." - GameSpot

Oh and Geist Force was apparently cancelled by quality control

Fuck! That makes me even more bummed that a US version never surfaced. Ubi was supposed to publish it, I believe. I'm a sucker for anything even remotely Tim Burton-esque.

Forget it, Evil Twin was terrible.

This one could have been good:

Originally announced as a licensed game (The Druid King) this was scheduled for a release on Xbox, PS2 and PC in 2002. Since then the developers (Sidhe) have developed several Rugby titles (thanks, EA...) but this one seems to have been abandoned. Hopefully they'll revive it on PSP.

Damn... I still want it! What happened to Netter Digital and why was the project shut down exactly?

From what I understand, the plug got pulled on Stolar's pet Dreamcast project after the game was not meeting any sort of remote playablity even after 2 years and millions od dollars in development.

Also, my list would include The Red Star, 100 Bullets, Full Throttle 2, Sam and Max 2, Thief 2 Gold, the first version of Thief 3, Castlevania Resurrection, Space Quest 7, Lesuire Suit Larry 8, Raven Blade and Amber 3.

well for some reason i am happy that we have not seen anything of FF XII.
what i am hoping for at E3 is that SquarEnix has change the characters and created a totaly new design over the game so when it is shown at E3 this year we will have more vibrant colors, cooler characters and a more beautiful world to play around in!

cause this is not what i want a FF game to look like! :(

another HUGE game that was cancelled -

Phantasy Star 4 on SegaCD ( and MegaCD)... aka Phantasy Star 4: The Return of Alis

In terms of software, the biggest news by far was with the Phantasy Star RPG series - the closest thing Sega had to Square's Final Fantasy franchise - with two Mega CD titles announced as being in development. The more notable of the two was the all-new title The Return of Alis, which was to take place immediately after the events depicted in Phantasy Star 3 and tell the story of the fight against a revival of the intergalactic slave trade. This new installment in the saga would be 20 times the size of the earlier game and would incorporate both audio and anime clips.

Sega cancelled the planned Sega CD release of Phantasy Star 4, opting instead for a cartridge-based Genesis game that bore little resemblance to its original Sega CD concept.

Unreleased

Phantasy Star 4: The Return of Alis
http://www.segacd.org/expression/site_3/segabase/CD/SegaBase-SegaCDGames.html

note: oh and the '3D' 1st person dungeons that you might have seen for PS4 before they were axed from the final game, that has nothing to do with PS4: Return of Alis on CD-ROM. those 1st person dungeons were from the totally different PS4 (that we got) which was released on a 24-meg cart.

you might as well hope that Sega might bring Phantasy Star IV: Return Of Alis (the REAL one that got canned for the Sega CD!!) back. Ohhhh the horror of not experiencing
that game (instead we get stuck with a good, but not as spectacular cart game).

FUCKING SEGA !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! why did you kill this game ????????????????????????????????????????????? ;_;

if not as PS4, 'Return of Alis' should've then been made into..............
Phantasy Star 5: Return of Alis for Saturn or Dreamcast.

I'll second The Lost

Man, I REALLY wanted this game.

The website is still active
http://www.thelost.com/

The forum was removed from Irrationals website, so it looks like chances of it coming out are very slim, but it still hasn't been officially cancelled...

The current-generation version of The Lost has been shelved, but Irrational own the rights, and want to remake the game in the future in all its glory without any corners cut.

I've been waiting for it since early 2000, so I figure what's another five years between friends?

Speaking of cancelled Sega games, has anybody else read this article on the whole sorted story of Sonice X-Treme?

http://www.lostlevels.org/200403/200403-xtreme.shtml

Interesting stuff probably the most complete version on what happened. But the thing I was most interested in was

"Naka = Many credit him with creating Sonic. Though those within STI who I spoke with when I arrived say this wasn't true. Never met him, because he had departed the US by the time I started at STI.

Yasuhara = Designer (level and character). I worked with him a few years, and have to say that he is one of the nicest and honest guys I know. He said he created Sonic and I believe him. He's quiet and not driven by ego like Naka, so that is why I believe what he says. "

Yeah. A while back Matt Bozan (Bozon?) was talking about Shantae Advace on the IGN boards. He said something to the effect of, "It's running quite well on the DS (not using the GBA slot)."

He also said something about possibly being able to bundle Shantae Advance in wth Shantae DS, if they end up being seperate games. (You know, the DS boxes are set up for this kind of thing...)

Sorry I don't have exact quotes, it's been a long while since he said any of this, and the IGN boards are just a fucking mess to wade through looking for old posts. So it's either a DS game, or it's a completed GBA game that just doesn't have a publisher yet. It'd be cool if they released the GBA game packed in with the DS game for like $45. Fuck, it'd be cool if they RELEASED THE GAME AT ALL. COME ON NAMCO! :(

Ah! Luckily, I already quoted it a while ago so thanks to GAF not sucking ass I was able to find it.

It runs on DS presently (not in the GBA slot). I guess we'll wait and see. It would be easy to switch over to DS.

"We still havenÂ’t found a publisher for Shantae Advance, but we are currently talking with a few publishers about a Shantae DS game. We may even be able to piggyback Shantae Advance with the DS game as a package deal. Nothing is set in stone yet, though."

I believe so. I think Square went on record as saying they never actually coded any real bit of Final Fantasy 7 64.

Also, speaking of long lost N64 games, I would like to add Freak Boy to the mix.

well the characters in the tech demo that screenboy posted is from FFVI and not FFVII.

Square did not code anything on FFVII until it they got the dev kit for PS.

That is what I said. Pity though, I reckon another round of Final Fantasy 6 would have been ages better then that boring claptrap of a mess we got with Final Fantasy 7.

Nope, FFVII actually started out as a SFC game iirc. I dunno if i was ever really N64 bound though?

Well, then U.S. Sega head Bernie Stoler killed Geist Force because he felt an on rails shooter wasn't "next-gen" enough for the DC.

As for Netter Digital, I think it was a lack of work. After Babylon 5, the first batch of B5 TNT movies, and Crusade they had no more regular projects. The last thing I saw from Netter Digital was a pilot pick-up teaser for a Buckaroo Banzai TV show.

Prop Arena (DC). Luckily, this one did eventually 'come out' :P

True Fantasy Online. I looked forward to this for years, planning on buying an Xbox just for that one game. Still don't have an Xbox.
