QT isn't making his next movie because its script leaked.

Seems like a petty move. And to announce it on Deadline as if he's punishing everyone because someone dared leak his script seems below him. To me if it comes down to either Madsen's or Dern's agent leaking the script, given the track record of Madsen's management, I would say it's a no brainer.

I hope, and sort of expect, that it will still get made.

That's disappointing. I was looking forward to what a more traditional Western, aka an entire movie of the first half of Django, would look like from him.

Any script he makes will be leaked though, so I don't get the sudden frustration. Maybe because it happened earlier than normal.

EDIT: Oh, seems like it stems more from the fact that only a small number of people he thought he could trust had access to it.

Some movies watched this week:

The Wizard of Oz - Victor Fleming, George Cukor, Mervyn LeRoy - ★★★★★
The Wizard of Oz was pure fun entertainment. It has classic story-telling with some breathtaking visuals and design. The songs and performances are memorable as well. I watched it on blu-ray and I couldn't believe how good it looked. The transition from sepia to color was like an explosion of colors. Amazing. Great film for young and old.

The Eye (Gin Gwai) - Pang Brothers - ★½
I didn't much care for this. The story was weak and it feels too safe and run-off-the-mill. There's no ambition or uniqueness in its direction and vision. Even though the film is relatively quite young, most of the effects don't hold up very well compare to today's standards.

Jobs - Joshua Michael Stern - ★
I'm not familiar enough with Steve Jobs' life to measure how accurate this film is to what really happened, but as a film this just sucked. It's a bloated dull drama with numerous cringeworthy eyerolling scenes and terrible writing. I wouldn't say I hated it, but it's so fake in its emotion and vision. Ashton Kutcher was pretty bad. Besides somewhat physically resembling Jobs, his physical portrayal and walk was so weird. I'll compliment him for going all in, but he's no Daniel Day-Lewis. Overall, this film is pretty bad. Also, no mention of Pixar at all?

The Passion of Joan of Arc (La passion de Jeanne d'Arc) - Carl Th. Dreyer - ★★★★★
The Passion of Joan of Arc was beautiful. I watched this with the Voices of Light orchestra and it was incredibly powerful. The score is fantastic and it compliments the film so well. I might revisit this film someday and watch it completely silent as how the director probably intended it be seen. Maria Falconetti's performance is an instant all-time favorite female performance of mine. Very emotional and striking. One of the best I've ever seen. I love the lighting, the shadows, and angles in this. And the close-ups of the faces and eyes from which you can read so much emotion. Just incredible. Loved it.

They Live - John Carpenter - ★★★
They Live was quite entertaining and I'm glad it didn't take itself too seriously. It takes a while to get going, but once it does it's quite fun. The story is interesting and ends well. The big fight scene is hilarious and ridiculous, but it kinda works. The main character, played by Roddie Piper, was bland though. I found he had no charisma or enthusiasm in his lines. Keith David was cool. Fun film overall though.

Didn't think I'd ever see a Wizard of Oz review in here, seems like everyone was born having watched it. Good movie though.

Jobs influence at Pixar is overstated.

Shows he was a good businessman with an eye for talent that's about it.

Also that movie is worse than Place Beyond The Pines which is saying something.

I watched Once upon a time in America last night.

That's not a good film. It had a few moments that I found interesting but overall it was a bad film. The music was awful, to the point where i felt annoyed every time it come on. It portrayed sex in a very juvenile way. Elizabeth McGoverns performance (old Deborah) was terrible. And the ending which was intended to be interesting and mysterious was just boring and looked amateur.

...and it lasted about 2 hours longer than it should have.

I finally saw Melancholia, i thought it was very good, a good visual depiction of depression, on which of course Von Trier must be the leading expert by now.
As for his very literal and obvious symbolism, i found it cathartic, it's not that i don't value subtlety, but i don't think it's to be an absolute goal.

Then i re-watched Dredd to wash away the.. ehm.. melancholy, and it was all good, until i got to the end and remembered the huge flop that the movie was.

Dirty Wars
Decided to check it out since it picked up a Best Doc nom and is streaming on Netflix.

Couldn't finish it because of the obnoxious framing around its heroic journalist lead; both narratively and visually, the movie is pivoted around Scahill rather than telling the story, which becomes apparent almost immediately.

There's a worthwhile story here, but The Jeremy Scahill Show: How One Brave Journalist Bravely Searched for Truth and Justice isn't it.

Public Enemies

CG Depp out of no where

. Now sure if people like this film, but I like it enough.

Blue Jasmine was really great.. I loved Cate Blanchett performance and how self-absorbed her characterization was.. and Woody Allen keeps proving to me that nobody makes fun of his own privilege better than himself.

Also he really needs to make a film starring Louis C.K someday.. his brief role was pretty awesome.;p

i saw this a few days ago. blanchett's performance was magnificent. she was so convincingly pathetic, sad, desperate, and mentally ill.

and i agree with you on c.k. please bring back louie soon, louis.

what is up with all these 110% full of wrong posts today?

here is an other one:

Season 4 is coming May!

Going to attempt to rent either/both Fruitvale Station or Blue Jasmine this weekend. Feel like they're perfect for me (plus have to watch the "acclaimed" movies, OBVIOUSLY).

Jean de Florette is a solid drama about human greed. Great acting from the three main characters, plus a beautifully rural Southern France setting. I look forward to watching the sequel.

Avatar 3D (Special Edition)

Been over three years since I last saw the movie in a theater and it is still amazing to watch as ever. Probably will head back to the Henry Ford this weekend for one last viewing

Stranger by the Lake 8/10 is a great movie, but I don't know why they advertised it as a "hitchcockian thriller". There are some similar qualities, but the style of filmmaking is completely different. I was actually reminded of Tropical Malady. I should watch Tropical Malady again. Or Syndromes and a Century. Damn, Weerasethakul is pretty great.

The ending of Your Sister's Sister 5/10 is terrible because who fucking cares. Also, I think I might hate Mark Duplass. Rosemary Dewitt was pretty great though, and the story started off pretty well with a solid enough setup, but it fell into predictable, inoffensive territory. The ending was also terrible; I know I'm repeating myself, but it had to be said a second time.

Ooh, this made me far more likely to watch it than the dozens of reviews dropping Hitch

well, it might just be that both films feature naked men running around plants and trees and shit.
I mean, there is still an actual plot in Stranger and it is straightforward enough, so don't go expecting some cryptic, dreamlike narrative structure.
You should definitely still be excited about seeing it though.

Saw two more

Thats My Boy - Surprisingly funny. Sometimes i just enjoy crude movies like this. I bet seriousGAF hates it (which is all of you except me)

How to Train Your Dragon - Awesome, enjoyed it from start to finish. I could tell it was Jay Baruchel that voiced Hiccup. He has such a nasally and whiny voice. Bring on How to train your Dragon 2.

Kelly's Heroes (1970)

Still remains one of my favorite WW2 films, even if it's not meant to be taken too seriously - what with Donald's Sutherland's ridiculously anachronistic long-haired hippie character and all. Eastwood has always maintained that MGM more or less gutted the film before it was released, removing a lot of key scenes that apparently added more complexity to some of the main characters. I would love to see those scenes restored someday, but I doubt I will :(

If you enjoyed Room 237 then you should take a look at this intriguing list compiled by Listverse on the top 10 conspiracy theories about Stanley Kubrick films: http://listverse.com/2014/01/17/10-insane-conspiracy-theories-about-stanley-kubrick/

Sorcerer
The film takes a bit to get going but once it does it turns into a real nerve shredder. The second half of the film is amazingly tense and that bridge scene is spectacular.

Also the score

Will revisit when the blu ray comes out.

If you are posting in sincerity, then I offer my humblest apology. /bow
Thanks. We have our differences, but I respect you in the realm of film. I've watched films I normally wouldn't have because of you. I should have made reference to the Only God Forgives reactions like I almost did.
