Watched "The Green Mile" the other night. Wow, I really missed out not watching that for so long.

I also just watched "The Fifth Element" today on Blu-ray. It looked gorgeous and is probably one of my favorite movies now.

Seeing the cast of The Voices it would be surprising if it won't be released on a wider scale right? Added that and Boyhood to my Letterbox'd watchlist so I won't forget.

It's so, so dark that I just don't see it connecting with general audiences. But you're right, the cast is pretty stacked so perhaps they can do a bait and switch.

Escape Plan - Guys, GUYS. Our lead character is going to be highly intelligent, perceptive and inquisitive - who should we cast?

Sylvester Stallone.

The Wolf of Wall Street - Entertaining, but I don't think it really did enough to justify the 3 hour run time. Also, Margot Robbie - lawd.

The Act of Killing - Fuck.

Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter... and Spring - Learning about life on a small house in the middle of a lake has never been so great.

I really dont understand the top overall checker of icm. I cant tell if its a fake or just odd..

22k checks but pretty much all the top list checks are still not watch. Classics like Lawerence of Arabia down to Cool Hand Luke.. list goes on

I think you have to work really hard to have seen that many movies and still avoid a lot of that stuff. Something does smell fishy.

It's very easy to cheat or make fake accounts anyways.

he seems fake, but i don't think has any of the super rare movies. he posts in ICM and taunts pretty much everyone with his disregard of classics. i think he's seen them, but isn just having a bit of fun.

haha thats one way of doing it

lol i havent been on those forums in awhile, to gamefaqs list mania to my liking.

1. create your profile
2. watch lots of movies
3. brag about it

... there are actually human beings who brag about having seen lots of films? that's weird.

Never Too Young to Die is not a good movie by any stretch of the imagination, but goddamn it if it isn't entertaining as all get-out. How often do you get a film where villains brutally interrogate a young John Stamos by repeatedly slamming his head back and forth in a kitchen sink? Or how about Gene Simmons playing a hermaphrodite dive bar singer/criminal mastermind who leads an army of extras from The Road Warrior? How about a random George Lazenby cameo, which allowed him one more chance to be James Bond, more or less? Throw in the most hilariously protracted seduction scene in cinematic history, characters with names like Lance Stargrove and Velvet van Ragnar, a gymnastics montage scored to a song about our hero's name, and so much more, and you have yourself a hoot and a holler of a breezy 90 minutes of pure 80s cheese.

yea that parts awful - and f you think my tastes are idiosyncratic, look out.

also like the endless debates on if watching sped up films counts, or movies without subtitles and that you don't speak native language should count, it's all a bit much.

well i think it's all in good fun regarding the ranking of lists and jockeying for position, and in pursuit of a lot of those shorts which are quicker checks a lot of rare stuff was made available.

Dont forget the mafia cries any time a turkish/bollywood film gets votes that sure got them in a fire from what I recall

OK GAF, going to try and start using Letterboxd frequently: http://letterboxd.com/thefilmstage/

What is your primary use of it? I was initially wary because I wanted to add everything I've ever seen but now viewing it as just a social-friendly place to discuss recent watches, I think I can use it better.

I use it mainly as a way to keep track of what I've seen, when and the ratings I gave. It handles this better than ICM. I enjoy reading other people's reviews too.

ADDED.

You need to add everything you've ever seen so that when I watch something I can click "seen by x friends" and scoff at your ridiculous rating. This is mainly what I use it for.

Dammit, I already did this on ICM and Flickchart and my own personal film log on Google doc! I need to hire an intern.

I rewatched Man of Steel (still don't like it much) on Blu-ray and I swear there is at least one scene missing that was in the theatrical release. It's the scene where it shows Lois as a child and she sees Clark.

Sucks that you can't import your IMDB list without going Premium or whatever. I'll have to add everything manually. Also, I foolishly decided to write one or two lines for every film on top of that. Will add y'all once I'm done (only added Expendable so far to test that out, thanks for adding me back <3).

LB instantly appealed to me for some reason, certainly has a sleek design.

I think we all do that. Recently I watched Brief Encounter and then Wreck-it Ralph and Cast Away. There was a lot of scoffing. A LOT.

YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN

pppffffffffffffft, all the shit on the island is top notch.

I recently rewatched Red Shoes (my favorite movie ever right now) and hesitantly clicked the friends ratings only to see it has near UNIVERSAL PRAISE among gaffers. Except Theodor Sturgeon who nined it and has been added to my enemies list.

Hey, the ballet sequence was fantastic, but made the rest of the movie pale by comparison.

... And I'm really stingy with five star ratings.

Finally gotten around to the Before trilogy. Just watched Sunrise and Sunset in one sitting and pretty much adored both of them; ridiculous chemistry between Delpy and Hawke, I feel as if I could watch them interact forever

Shame I have no time to watch Midnight tonight. fuck this shit, I don't want to wait until tomorrow evening

Prisoners

Both Jake Gyllenhaal and Hugh Jackman manage to turn in amazing performances.

Actual spoiler:
I knew Melissa Leo was the killer when I saw her horrible ass makeup

Tonight I've been on a movie marathon:

Bloody Birthday (amazing slasher from the early 80s that is almost always overlooked)
Salem's Lot (1979 miniseries)
Needful Things (holy crap one of the best King adaptations I've ever seen)
and now I'm watching The Great Escape...heard great about it and never seen it. It's 50 years old, about time I see it!

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

Never seen it before, had an idea what it was about. I enjoyed it, liked seeing Jim Carrey play serious roles he should more often. The memory sequences were very impressive in this.

The Wolverine (theatrical): Better than seeing in theater. At least I can turn subtitle on. Pretty decent, terrible third act. Still need to check out extended version.

Iron Man 3: Like it enough, but was disappointed.

Here's my letterboxd

Using it to just track every film I've seen, make a watch list and to practise my review writing.

Was gonna copy and paste one or two of my recent ones on here but they're pretty long - my 12 years a slave one is 1500 words for fucks sake :lol. Would love if you guys gave them a read of course, I'm just not gonna knob up the thread.

Dr. Strangelove released 50 years ago today. I think thats a sign to finally add it to my collection

edit; The Blu Ray prices on Amazon are unreasonable my god.
