went to see "Last Night In Soho" yesterday. it's by Edgar Wright and has Thomasin McKenzie, Anya Taylor Joy, and Matt Smith.

it's heavily inspired by the 60's and i think it was probably inspired a lot by Stephen King/The Shining when it comes to the horror side of things. It's billed as a horror but quite tame really. I'm not saying it's on the level of The Shining but just reminded a bit of it. Overall it was enjoyable but a little flat and predictable. The big "twist" at the end I saw coming a mile off but whatever. Can't wait to watch it again...i might even go back to the cinema and see it. I've enjoyed Edgar Wright movies (Shaun of the dead, scott pilgram, baby driver, etc) and love Matt Smith and of course I'll watch anything with Anya Taylor Joy. Thomasin McKenzie really shines in this. I've saw her in some stuff before like Jojo Rabbit + Leave No Trace. I hope this film helps get her more bigger roles.

I‘m not the biggest fan of biography flicks but this movie is legit. Great performance from Cumbersnatch. Absolute disgrace what was done to Turing. Every homophobe should see this.

Dune (2021) Good. Greatest weaknesses are occasionally unintelligible dialogue and not being a complete story. However, it was a Part 1 by design so I can forgive the latter flaw. I felt like the David Lynch film did some things better.

Edit: KrakenIPA Nightcrawler was sooooooooo fawkin' good. It gets nowhere near the notoriety it deserves.

What a movie… It‘s been 20 years already so I don‘t I go too far when I call it a classic. What a feat from the makes to make a 2,5 hour movie with a plot like this so good. Pure artistry. And Hanks… Boy, one of the greatest and most diverse actors ever. Loved it when I saw in the theater 20 years ago and loved it just now.

Fast & Furious 9

Man… I still can‘t grasp that not only got this series to part 9 but also where it‘s gone. I mean, I was there back in 2001… Anyway, can‘t help but wonder how this script meetings go. No way in hell does the entrie crew not laugh there ass off at how much money they make with these trash plots. That being said, I found some mild entertainment here just like in the others. At least it‘s not the worst. That remains part 7 to me. Also I think Cena is a good replacement for Statham and Dwajne. Not because he‘s better but because the latter seem to be in every movie these days.

Pretty decent thriller. Sure, the ending is quite retarded and Kidman was a bit too young for that role but whatever. A nice romp. Funny how Zane was never able to get away from that psycho image. He has the face though... Speaking of… It‘s crazy how mich Kidman changed later on. Suspect she have had a lot of stuff done to her face. Real shame though. She was such a natural beauty if you ask me. Well…

They take your eyes off the usual spectacle of the brave heroes doing their Marvel movie massive battle thing, and instead focus you on the spectacle of baby Groot going wild. 4/5.

The only movies from the MCU I adore. Part 2 isn't as good as 1 to me but still a great flick. Bought the game yesterday and can't wait to dig into it on the weekend.

Oh there is no doubt that the Lynch version gets blown away in production values, even adjusting for technological standards. It has been about 8-10 years since I last watched it (caught it on TV randomly and had no idea what it was) but I also do not remember any standout acting performances.
Just from what I do remember I still like some of the things it did like in this scene:

The way Lynch shows Paul's hand bubbling and smoking helps the audience understand what he is suffering through, and just how great his will must be to endure it. The 2021 scene is a bit sterile on that front in comparison and I was disappointed it was not shown. And yeah, the guy playing Paul has iffy acting at best and he looks way too old!

I also liked Paul's internal monologue although I can live without it, as well as the oppressive orange-brown haze and color-grading during the scenes in the desert. It really helped communicate that this was an extreme, alien world as opposed to what could pass for any desert on Earth at first glance.

Baron Harkonnen was also considerably more disgusting in Lynch's film.

Still, I really like the 2021 film and the way it is telling the story. I am looking forward to Part 2.

I saw The Harder They Fall... The story was nice. The acting was great. The action was good. What stood out to me was that all the characters were real people... From Mary Fields to Nat Love to Rufus Buck... Took me down a rabbit hole to learn about them all. Real people but not a true story. For a western about cowboys, I really liked it.

Also, this movie has to me one of the most iconic scenes… the presidents speech. Couples with the great soundtrack it‘ll probably never fail to give me goosebumps.

Made it through about 30 minutes of The Crow before turning it off. It hasn't aged well at all.

I really enjoyed Midsommar but I can't understand the cult following that Mandy has. It all felt so boring to be honest.

Midsommar was disappointing after Hereditary but I'm starting to think my love for that movie was more about Toni Collette's powerhouse performance.

As for Mandy, it took me a few attempts to make it through the movie. I guess it has some interesting visuals and themes but I'm starting to think people just like the outlier Nick Cage movies as they are so far removed from the usual dreck he's involved in. It's kind of like Adam Sandler with Uncut Gems or Punch Drunk Love.

Pretty charming flick with Tom Hanks. Really hard to go wrong with this guy. Such an amazing actor. Not sure what the love story elements in the movie were all about but aside from that it is quite entertaining.

I watched Lamb the other night and found it......ok? It was super slow and really only had a few "uh oh what's gonna happen" moments that you'd expect from a "horror" movie. Left me wanting to know more of what happens after it ended, but in a not really good way to a movie that won't get a sequel.

Also saw the new Bond movie "No Time to Die" and as someone that has never really watched a Bond movie before, it was also just "ok". Predictable storyline with some nice action scenes.

Wached Arctic a few days ago. And I really enjoyed it!

Basically it is a survival drama with Mads Mikkelsen. And he is the sole actor for 99% of the film.

You have to be in the right mood to watch this. And some people might just think its is slow and boring. But I found it both tense and beautiful. And Mad's really sells the feeling of isolation and danger. His performance was top tier.

Also found out that the first cowboys were black and that the term "cow boy" was basically a term for a black male cow hand while a white cow hand was called... a cow hand. Did you know the archetypes of the skilled cowboy were modeled after Nat Love, Bill Pickett and Bass Reeves? Look them up! You'll be pleasantly surprised!

I give it 2 stars, but there is easily 45 minutes they could have cut out of that film. I did like the stuff in Babylon, just because I like the old Mesopotamian stuff. I would watch a movie on Nebuchadnezzar.
