I can't really comment on the show's tone, as I've never seen it. But this entire subgenre of anime/manga just seems to be about sexual escapism. There's definitely something icky going on with it; maybe if not just this series, but other series as well. I don't find it too dissimilar to Western fantasies like stepfather-stepdaughter, which is also muorally reprehensible.

A lot of fiction is sexual escapeism. A lot of different mangas are sexual escapism.

I wouldn't say icky, I dunno , just doesn't seem like my buisness, ya know. If dudebro wants to make a manga/light novel that is a alagory for incest fetish, go for it. I heard the guy has no issue with all those doujins that get made with his characters doing "stuff".

The movies let a fetish movie series go on for several years. It was called Twilight.

They can make whatever they want, I don't have to participate in this product though.

As long as they aren't creepen on real unwanting youngin's I can't hard on a person for having an imagination

A gif is worth a thousand comments.

On the topic of the actual game, is it a visual novel like the PSP game or is it something else?

I'd assume so, but it doesn't seem there is any actual info yet. There is a little teaser video but it has no gameplay screens.

I remember coming across this sometime last year. My cousin tried to make me watch it but I refused. I mean look at that title. It's just asking for trouble, or things I'd rather not deal with. He kept badgering me though, so I eventually gave in.

It's not as bad as I thought it would be. I mean it has the typical occasional fanservice that's always annoying. It was also disturbing at first that the sister plays eroge games with older brother/little sister relationships. In a way the fact she sees herself as the older sibling that likes to win over little sisters doesn't really make it any less weird. But once you get past the beginning, the eroge games aren't really focused on at all. Those images are also a one off small scene that while annoying, has been taken out of context as it is meant to be the usual do something silly and get slapped for it when you were actually trying to do your sister a favour in the first place.

The show is really more about two distant siblings becoming closer together and developing their familial connection a bit. The younger sister is meant to be on the surface a role model who's perfect at everything she does. But she hides away the part of herself that likes eroge, and other random normal games, anime and manga because she doesn't think an idol like her should have those interests, and is scared of rejection. The brother spends most of his time helping her out by getting her to accept who she is and the things she likes (despite finding them disturbing himself). He helps her find friends and form a kind of otaku club where she can relax and actually talk with people about her hobby. He also gets her friends (the ones who might reject her otaku nature) to acceot that part of her as well. This is also the area in which the anime expresses an anti-incest vibe.

In the anime anyway, there are no undertones of romance between the siblings. In fact the only romance at all is between the brother and his childhood friend. The title is almost made to look stupider due to the translation, or is completely misinterpreted by pretty much everyone. I had the same aversion to the title that I assume most people would have. But after watching tbe show, all it really means is that the brother discovers there is more to his little sister than the overly perfect and proper schoolgirl. She has her own insecurities that she's not sure how to deal with. It's more about the brother finally actually getting to know who his sister really is.

I'll just fall back the usual set of questions I ask myself regarding games like this.

Am I willing to play this in front of my significant other? What about my parents? Co-workers? A complete stranger?

If said person were to inquire, I'd imagine the conversation would be something like...
Him: "Who's that?"
Me: "My sister."
Him: "Why are you trying to sexytime her?"
Me: "It's a fantasy."
Him: "Is that OK?"
Me: "Technically she's not my real sister in the game."

I mean, it's very easy to argue on the internet about how it's OK and whatnot. But I gather most of the people posting here wouldn't be caught dead giving those same comments in real life. And I've got no issue defending or showing off my violent murderkill games in any context.

I think your misattributing what subgenre this fits into, this isnt in the same kind of genre as shit like Da Capo, etc. i.e. explicitly incestuous/sexual stuff which is either drawn from or turned into eroge. This is more on the comedy/drama end of things, it just happens to have a title which sounds weird in english and the sister character has a "unique" hook that she liks playing VN's (which as others have mentioned is only really a framing device). It's a fairly harmless harem comedy with a fairly realistic/normal sibling relationship, its not even as raunchy/"ecchi" as stuff like To Love Ru, its more the Tenchi end of things

I'm sure I'd have a much easier time defending this game than defending the airport scene from MW2, to be honest and I'm not even interest in this in any way imaginable. Maybe I don't know enough about the game but it seems to me like it's a visual novel with a weird name that has relationship aspects, no?

First your set of questions may not work for many, simply because many feel embarassed to play any game infort of people.

Next, why would these people give those comments, this is their personal life. And if they don't wish to disclose what they do, who cares. There are plenty of people in sexual arrangements that don't wish to disclose what they do or what they like, Its not just for games like this

Lastly, why do you care? It ain't none of your buisness keep calm and wario on.

This game was announced on March 16. It was not just announced.

What Famitsu has this week are a few gameplay details. Apparently the game uses some Twitter-like social network system, where there are things like status updates and "levels" and "skills." Then there is a system called "Meeting" where players can "Connect" with familiar characters for consultation and conversation.

Always wondered, are otakus considered the brownies of Japan by the populace as a whole?

Brownies?

AFAIK, being an otaku in Japan isn't exactly a positive thing. It's in line with being a trekkie or something over here. Although maybe now I guess closer to bronies.

Maturity, bitches.
I promise that I will do my best,
To love my waifu,
To serve the industry and my forum,
To help other otaku,
And to keep the Brownie Guide Law.

Not really. Otaku is a much broader thing - there are tons of otaku who aren't into anime, manga or videogames. A gun nut or an obsessive fan of a particular band is an otaku as well.

Do you mean "bronies"?

Sorry, I've got Russell Stover eggs on my mind :p

Ah ok, didn't know it was a broader term that could fit many subgroups. Thought it referred to that certain type of anime/manga fan.

It's mostly used in that context, yes. At least outside of Japan. But even then, it's not really comparable to bronies or trekkies, as those are tied to specific franchises.

I like her when shes not acting like a selfish bitch which is about 2% of the time.

Pretty much. I enjoyed Oreimo a lot more than I expected to, mostly because it toys with a lot of tropes rather than suffering from them.

Kirino is a total bitch near the end though.

That said, the games look creepy as hell. The show isn't bad though.

Ayase and Saori = best girls.

But I'm up for the incest end too.

Kuroneko all the way. Ayase's too...Ayase, and Saori is too big.

Wincest ain't that bad either.

In the anime. She's a lot more dere dere in the manga, and more neutral in the light novels.

I hope you can kill the sister ;). I've never seen a main character I hated so much.

Kirino fucking sucks

So it's a new game ? Bought, maybe.

Her on the other hand..

Also I thought I'd let it be known that the two best girls are Manami and Kuroneko. Anything else, including route wise pales in comparison.

Although I do like ayase and kirino too. Saori outside of her otaku persona is nice too :D

kuroneko_gif_by_kanra_san-d35bog4.gif

correct.

Most people would rather see Kyousuke hook up with someone else anyways. A lot of people hate Kirino since she's a colossal bitch most of the time.

<--- Kuroneko/Ruri forever

Also correct.

I like yall.
