also they had flags behind the fighter jets. i guess for kicks or something but i would say thats an unpractical military decision.

We don't know when that takes place in the movie. Maybe they were testing the new ships and went to the Moon for the first time in them. Maybe the flag was supposed to be us claiming the moon.

Looks like 2012 crossbred with ID4, but on that angle, I'm totally fine with it.

btw, am I the only person who feels like there is a bit 'too much' in trailers these days? I mean, by the one minute mark I was like "and that's the trailer!" and then there's a minute of that level of speed-cutting to go?
Or am I just getting...old?

I thought this movie was going to either fall into complete bomb or breakout hit territory at the box office with no room for anything in between.

After this trailer, I think it's gonna make BANK.

Wlll is gonna cameo for sure. Kidnapped by vengeful aliens and in cryogenic. Saves day with "welcome back to EarTH" and he'll lisp hard to end the most controversial thing in history.

In fact the trailer dances around the nature and chronology of whatever fate he met.

A good agency would make him take the opportunity to do a Connery from Prince of Thieves. He needs an easy comeback spot. This is it.

Looks okay.

But lol at snagging another popular Chinese female celeb for a bit role. I thought I caught a glimpse of Angelababy and a quick google says that yes, she is in the movie.

:lol

sneaky cunt, that emmerich. he wants dat sweet china money.

That's probably plan B just in case this movie doesn't do so well in the west.

Will be interesting to see how well this movie will do at the box office. The movie itself may actually be bullet proof to bad reviews because people know what to expect from Roland Emmerich. Audiences may end up going to this movie purely because it will be another hot mess.

Went from "meh, cash-in" to "oh, whoa, thats f'n cool" when they revealed the giant ship->massive tsunami shockwave around the world thing. Very unique.

I cannot fathom how bad the acting in this movie is. I mean why? Why not make an independence day movie and hire people who know how to act.

Because people that can act are expensive, and this movie movie needs to keep it's budget down with what is presumably a massive amount of change going into the digital effects.

I think the son's line:

"It's the Fourth of July. Let's show em some fireworks."

Is a callback to his father saying:

"Didn't I promise you fireworks?"

Or maybe it's just a coincidence, hard to say.

Don't remember thinking much of the first one, but this looks like it could be a laugh. That line about the landmarks, and that Goldblum delivery, is golden.

I love the world building in this universe. Alternate future, super-tech space jets! SIGN ME UP! This might be the surprise biggest movie of the summer.

How the hell does Judd Hirsch and Brent Spinner look exactly the same as...wait, did n't he die? If he lived the maybe...

"well you know how I like to make an entrance"

I like that they managed to sneak in a photo of Will Smith into the trailer. I feel that if he was in this movie, the marketing would be very, very different.

The line about the landmarks is great, hopefully the rest of the movie has more stuff like that.

I'm telling you, this is how the movie should end.

Earth is destroyed, fucked obliterated. The last vessels of humanity are forced into space with the technology they have gathered over 20 years, entire derelict fleets are floating in orbit from what ever battle happened in the movie. Years go on, we take the remanence of their fleet that is in space and on Earth and create a home among the stars.

The movie has one last scene, Goldblum and Co. are in the heart of a destroyed mothership and find a star map that shows all of our local immediate cluster showing the trail of dead planet after dead planet, a perfect path of where they have been, showing once flourishing worlds completely obliterated by the aliens.

And then you see Goldblum start following the trail, and it ends on a single planet. It's not dead, it's atmosphere is habitable to humans. It's the aliens home planet.

"Now it's time for us to destroy their national monuments"

Independence Day: Homecoming
We're talking Oscar winner for Best Picture here.

do we know what this is?

a new ship that landed?

cant be one of the old one due to the legs can it?

and thats like 1/5 of the planet?

No i think it was made out of the former ships by the looks of it since the picture beneath it is the other big ship coming in from space.

and thats like 1/5 of the planet?

It spans the Atlantic Ocean. Is the Atlantic Ocean the one fifth of our planet?....
Yup... it seems so
it covers approximately 20 percent of the Earth's surface and about 29 percent of its water surface area. Its name refers to Atlas of Greek mythology, making the Atlantic the "Sea of Atlas".

Independence Day begins with massive hovering alien vessels lingering over the major cities of the world. The sight of the hovering mega-ships is one of the most memorable images from the 1996 film – along with that exploding White House. Director Roland Emmerich returns to the Independence Day universe with this summer’s sequel, Resurgence. Twenty years later, the nemesis has gotten stronger. “The Mothership comes to Earth,” the director explains, “And it spans the Atlantic Ocean.”

I hope the movie will deliever another dog scene.

The most nail-biting moment of ID4 for me. I don't care about the other characters as long as the dog is safe.

Also, those who's been complaining that there's no big action film that's not superhero film these days, well guess what? Now there is!

The mothership in the original movie was described as having "a diameter of over five hundred and fifty kilometers and a mass roughly one fourth the size of our moon."

That gives it a surface area of 237,583 sq km (91731 sq mi). According to Wikipedia, the Atlantic Ocean has a total area of about 106,400,000 sq km (41,100,000 sq mi). This sucker is huge!

What's with the trend of advertising the trailer after the trailer begins? The same thing happened before the new Jason Bourne Trailer.

Probably going to be bad but at least it looks nice. The cgi is good and the destroyed landscape shots are very painterly.

shiiiieeeeet

If the trailer is an indication of the tone of the film, I'm a bit disappointed. Seems like more CGI explosions and serious business rather than, fun(nny) characters.

A ship this big falling down should kill the entire planet and dust pollute the sky. Besides... why over the Atlantic? Drop that fat ass at EDF base and be done with them, lol.

Probably a lot easier to screw up the planet by drilling in the ocean rather than on America I guess?
