New Sonic game rumored to be unviled in February for almost every platform

The worst thing about this is that we are going to just get a very short teaser. And I'm dying to see screens and video.

Yeah, that's what always happens. lol, although it isn't usually too much longer until they show stuff after that.

I also don't expect to see PC or next gen consoles listed on the first teaser trailer, unless next gen consoles are revealed by then, but SEGA seems to have something against putting PC logo on trailers for sonic games.

I was joking about the games being vile because the title says "unviled."

But no, I haven't played either game. SA2 was the end of the line for me. Maybe someday the wounds will heal.
Sarcasm's hard to catch in these threads. ;(

Things have gotten better, though, in most regards.

edit: we're backwards today, Schala
I'm just as surprised as you are.

It would be cool if the zones for the next game had a real time day/night cycle. (No warehog please.)
Now that you mention Unleashed, I'm really looking forward to the soundtrack if they do consider a Day/Night cycle for the game.

I love Unleashed's soundtrack so much. One of my favourite soundtracks of this generation.

and after we get the first gameplay trailer, that's when the Iizuka interviews start pouring in. and if you guys aren't aware, those are always the best part of a sonic game launching.

(The gist of) an excerpt from an old-ass issue of Nintendo Official Magazine UK, back when Shadow was being shown off to people:

NOM: "So, Sonic's really fast but we have plenty of hedgehogs in this country and they ain't too fast. Why did you decide to make Sonic a hedgehog?"
Iizuka: *dead serious, straight-faced response about Sonic needing to roll up into a ball and stuff like that*
NOM: "Actually, that was a... never mind."

Iizuka takes Sonic seriously, NOM should know better. I like the interview where he laughs at gamegear. The guy who interviewed him, I think his name is RobbieNick here on neogaf, but I talk to him on MSN, and he told me Iizuka laughed at him really loud and rudely when he asked about the gamegear levels XD, it's too good.

NOM UK was the fucking best magazine ever. They were incredibly not family-friendly at times (on Ocarina of Time: "I wet my pants, and it wasn't urine") and were just amazingly irreverent and funny. Best captions of all time. They couldn't do reviews for shit but it was hard to care. One of their last ever Christmas issues had 6 pages of just fucking NONSENSE about things like "what to do if your parents get you Enter the Matrix for Christmas" or "best excuses in case you lose against your brother playing Melee on Christmas Day".

Such a good read.

It was a sad day when they died. I remember buying the first issue of ONM and being disgusted. So sterile.

It's amazing how simply mentioning that OoT related quote took me right back to that very issue.
Regardless of the actual quality of their reviews from a traditional standpoint they were often fun to read to the point where even reviews for shitty games were a treat.

I remember their Ping Pals review just being all "WHY DOES THIS EXIST". :lol

FUCK YEAH

This in the current engine should look amazing.

still on my phone but the way a friend on Twitter described to me is its a Sega broadcast with puyo puyo being the closing/main event. which makes sense, sonic isnt super big in Japan. but iizuka-san will be there for the sonicteam portion.

I've been playing Advance 3 today. Decent game, almost as good as I've remembered it. I'd LOVE to see the handheld Sonic games getting the Generations treatment. The 3DS version did it soooo wrong

It's one of my favorites. I would put it on top of being Genesis ones if it wasn't for the awful Twinkle Snow boss and the night impossible to get Emerald Mini game. (Which I hate, I believe Emeralds should be obtain from bosses or cutscenes or anything, since they are actually part of the story)

Hoping this is the real deal, I'd love a new Sonic sometime soon although I wouldn't mind a bit of a break from the annual trend they've had. Generations and Colors were pure love though, I'd be ecstatic to see more of the same.

Yeah, that timeslot seems pretty weird.

Then again, Sonic is far more popular in the west...
with how secretive Sega west is, they could he also be doing something on their own soon. Ruby helps with this stuff for Sega west, he wouldn't let them ignore hedgehog day.

Is Ruby still working as one of SEGA's community guys? The guy popped up all over the place during Sonic 4 but after Generations never heard from him again. Maybe SEGA decided they didn't need somebody directly interacting with the fans now that the games weren't laughably awful anymore, IDK.

He got promoted to brand manager a while back.

Ah man, you made me sad. First magazine I ever subscribed to.

I'd love if they got the team back together and made a spiritual successor.

My biggest issue with the game are the poor enemy placement and cheap traps (looking at you crushing blocks from Route 99) and the tedious way to gain access to special stages (definitely a lot less tedious than Advance 2, but takes longer despite that). I felt Advance 1 was somewhat better. They all suffer from the usual Dimps traditional flaws with Advance 2 being the worst of it.

And yeah, the Twinkle Snow boss was pretty bad the last time I played it. The best part of the game is the music though... definitely the best of the handheld series.

With regards to the magazine shutting down, I never really figured out whether it had more to do with Future's dominating ways or Nintendo somehow being displeased with the tone of the magazine as the "blue ocean years" began. The latter would have explained the sterility of the new magazine. Ugh.

I think Mike Jackson is still at CVG, as for the others I have no idea. I'd love a successor, sure. I'd probably get all of the jokes this time. :lol

NOM wasn't actually published by Future, I don't think. I'm fairly sure EMAP sold the rights to Future, and Future bought in a brand new team.

Such a shame. The latest brand has been going for six and a half years now and it's never even dreamt of touching the heights that NOM climbed.

A spot of Googling tells me that Tim Street has been at MATCH magazine since the close.

ive been lurking ssmb, someone there makes a good point

The Sonic segment of this show is airing at 2am Tokyo Time, that seems like it's possibly lined up with a western announcement

or maybe i've just seen sonic fans grasping at straws and now im grasping at straws, i can dream :) lol

I know, when I said "Future's dominating ways" I meant how they seemed to own a fucking ton of UK games magazines, and the official Nintendo rag was the one thing they didn't have. I feel like they must have threw a ton of money at their pitch to Nintendo for the contract, because damn that was a glossy magazine (for the naught it was worth).

Tim Street at a football magazine makes sense.

With a sweet soundtrack by Hideki Naganuma.
Jet Set Radio needs to crossover with Tony Hawk Pro Skater first

Can't wait for this news :(

The source elaborates that the console version of this new game will be sticking with the recent formula seen in Sonic Unleashed (Daytime), Sonic Colours and Sonic Generations where gameplay switches between full 3D movement and 2D side-scrolling sections.

Forgive them God for they know not what they are doing.

It's time for Sega to make a Sonic game as good as a Mario game as it was in the past...sticking with this same formula that results in average titles sickens me.

I'd say Colors and Generations are above-average, but at this point we're probably better off with Sega not experimenting too much...
