New Zelda images (GC) inside

So you have a limited experience with gaming and your opinion can't be trusted? :D

limited experience of gaming? Yeah right I am 25 and been playing since 7. It's just latley that i don't have the time to buy other games than I really want. I have had family problems(dad died in cancer), full time student university etc.

Compare to MGS3, Halo 2, RE4 if you want to make a more fair argument...

Those games as well as the GC games I mentioned (Prime, SFA, and RS3) all look better, I'd say...

I'm just messing about, Cruz, don't worry. :D Sorry about your dad, though. :( I didn't mean to drag that into this thread...

assuming you'd seen the Zelda E3 trailer

When you assume, you make an ass of u and me. :P

Could TTOB explain how the gameplay was lacking in 'Celda'?

The game I played had tighter controls and better combat than OoT.

I just didn't care for the camera system and some of the context sensitive actions / interactions, and overall feel of the controls in the game. The controls just don't feel right to me at times. Not to mention I think Nintendo could have made better use of their available buttons instead of pandering to the lowest common denominator.

I'm still playing through the game due to a combination of my distaste for Nintendo's awful camera schemes and just a general sort of apathy regarding completing it. There's no urgency and since there's no sequel coming, I'm going to take my sweet old time to enjoy the freakish nature of it.

I never played any of the rubbish N64 Zelda games. I got the Celda pre-order incentive disk collection of the N64 games, but I popped it in and saw that everything was muddy brown and green textures on awful low poly characters and lost interest. The Nintendo 64 was just an awful piece of hardware.

Well, to be fair, plenty of developers have already demonstrated extremely impressive texturing and modeling that goes well beyond what this new Zelda has shown. Metroid Prime, Rogue Squadron 3 and Star Fox Adventures, for example, blow this away technically (well, based on the shots and trailer...things may change).

The game still looks great, though.

But even those games you mentioned are making sacrifices. Star Fox is little polystarved itself. Rogue Squadron features relatively small arenas and sometimes relied heavily on repeated geometry and textures. Metroid has been critcized for textures at times. No game is immune from the GC's small amount of ram. Those developers that made the games you listed did what they had to do within the constraints of the system, and I'm sure that the new Zelda will reflect that same sense when we see the final build.

Why do you say that, oh wise one?

Yeah, I know...but they get the whole package right. Zelda still may, but the early shots have been quite barren (from a world standpoint).

I think we can probably take the quality of Links textures to be some indication of what the final game will look like, which is to say, it'll look great.

Thanks. Well you couldn't know so it's ok.

Simply gorgeous. My most wanted game for sure.

These screens look like they might be from the extended trailer that was never shown at E3 though. It's the same exact build, no differences.

Of course, the most important question to be asked is if the camera can be positioned so you can see up Link's, ummm, skirt???
...I don't think that's the most important question.

It's called a tunic, and there's already a pic of him backflipping in such a position. :\

awful camera schemes in LOZ 3d? Go back to fiddling with Ken doll's penis.

I would have preferred a sequel to Celda(fucking excellent art style)...but I'm warming up to this, I just don't like most of what I've seen so far. The overworld looks even more barren than Oot's and all the other environments they've shown look dreadfully generic. Other than it being the next Zelda game it just doesn't look particularly interesting.

Too bad we'll never get another Celda...after all the talk from Aonuma and Miyamoto about how Wind Waker was how Zelda should really look like, they've proved with this game that they're just the fanboys' bitches. :P

you're basing this only on graphics? please... give zelda a little more credit than that :P

All I want is a style that can match the mood. OoT's seemed perfect, because there was room for seriousness, and room for silliness. TWW's was very stylish and the graphics were wonderful, but when the game grew more mature near the end, the overall style didn't match, and we were left with some cheesy sound effects and bits of poor dialog.

jett said:
Doubtful. I don't want an ass-looking Celda, anyway.
Actually, it could look very nice on the small screen. The lack of texture filtering won't be as much of an issue.

out of all of the media that has been shown for this game, that one enemy is the only thing i've seen that looks bad. everything else is gorgeous. sfa and mp might be beautiful games, but the new zelda definitely gives them a run for their money. stop the madness!

IBHAT...oh, wait.
IBHaters...oh, wait.
IB...nevermind.

Nice screens. No matter how bad the screenshots are, I could never get enough of them until this game comes out. :D

You know Nintendo's struck gold when releasing three screenshots is enough for already massive hype. It's unreal. I can't believe how we're all going crazy over three screens. It truly proves that Zelda is much more than merely a game.

But when it comes down to it: we only have a single trailer and three screens. What do you know about this game? Not much at all. I don't like the "best game ever" or even "GOTY 2005" comments.

This is gorgeous.

Low, high, whatever textures you want this is conveying to me the only thing I think was kinda lacking on zelda adventures presentation due to tech limitation or art direction: an epic feel.

Cant wait.

Wanda and the Collosus>>>>>>>>GCN Zelda

Well, Zelda has a cap on quality, provided Nintendo doesn't completely botch everything. We don't really know how Wanda plays yet.

Anyway, the games are nothing alike except for the fact that they both have horses. One horse is a marble pony and the other one is a mediocre-textured Epona.

I'd be one to disagree. The modelling on the creature (AND link) is fantastic. the textures don't scream "lo res" , just average compared to the exceptional work done on Link himself.

The modeling and texture work on Link IS fantastic... but that creature is so low-poly and the textures so low-res that it almost doesn't look like the same game. I like the creature's design, it just seems too low-fidelity as compared to Link.

I think Nintendo struck gold with the Link model.

Seriously, my guess is that screen alone would be enough to generate a massive amount of hype (it appears to be the one that is anyway).

Who here wants dual sword wielding, for the record?

Matt-IGN I heard :lol

In general a deep combat system, akin to Prince of Persia 2 or something, would be awesome. Real button combinations, real techniques learned, etc. Wind Waker had a good one, I hope this rendition expands on it.

Minsh Cap greatly expanded Link's fighting capabilities in 2D - I'm sure Nintendo will be beefing up the gameplay/swordplay in LOZGC.

No one's mentioned it but I say it first. If Link looks like a hot digital kickass elf.. I wonder what's going to happen to Zelda + Ganon + more. This game will be fantastically beautiful. Hopefully there's a sea in this game. I hope they don't lose the sea ... just so long as you don't have to rely on the winds.. that would be incredible. Can't wait to catch fairies in this one. I wonder what it will look like :D

um. ICO IS overrated by GAF.

Good but NOT great. Gameplay in any Zelda title > ICO.

There's no possible way to overrate ICO. The president could declare a month "National ICO month" and it still wouldn't be overrating it. ICO is, without a doubt, one of the greatest games ever made - and among the very top of this generation. Besides it's unparalleled grasp of art direction in a videogame, it's finally a story told RIGHT using the videogame medium. It perfectly emphasizes that long, drawn out dialogue and cliche characters don't make for compelling storytelling; ICO is all about small details. And the gameplay fucking rocked too, of course.

Not saying Zelda isn't ICO's equal, but to say ICO is overrated is just wrong imho.

What did you expect? It's a Zelda game...every game in this series is hyped to the max and rightly so.

I'm one of those people that firmly believes this will not only be GOTY 2005, but possibly one of the best games ever. Why? It looks like OoT with kick ass graphics and since OoT is my personal 2nd favorite game of all (after MM), I can't wait. Yes, I am biased towards this game because I absolutely adore the Zelda series and Nintendo has yet to release a sub-par entry in the series (WW was a massive disapointment though), but each to his own...

8.2/10

I'm willing to bet that these screens are from the E3 2004 extended trailer that IGN and a few others were shown behind doors.

If your right, that would possibly explain why the extended trailer was behind closed doors. Nintendo wouldn't have wanted to show off the low poly, unfinished, character models.

Imho, it's a 10/10... highest honor I can possibly find for a game. And I hardly rate any games a 10/10. Zelda: Majora's Mask, Metroid Prime 1, ICO, Earthbound and Chrono Trigger are the only games I'd give a solid 10/10. It seriously is becomeaprostitute worthy, and is easily one of the most transcendent games I've ever played. It defines what should make gaming good, and I cannot possibly praise it enough.

8.2 is just ridiculous. My opinion, though. I disagree with yours! A lot! :D
