Well Sony only shows gameplay of the next game after the launch of the previous... after R&C release they will start on gameplay marketing of the next release.

None of Sony's first party games currently have any gameplay shown outside Ratchet lol

June showcase we saw a GT7 gameplay demo and a Ratchet gameplay demo. Then we saw bits of Sackboy gameplay, Demon's Souls gameplay, Returnal gameplay, and Destruction Allstars gameplay, but those were cut up into edited trailers, but it was gameplay.

(We know that now, cuz most of those games are out. Like we saw what Sackboy gameplay looks like way back in June.)

Then in the September show we a Spider-Man Miles gameplay demo and a Demon's Souls gameplay demo.

But as usual that's my opinion, i know someone who for example love playing on handled. Subjective as usual.

Sony aren't run by idiots, they are not going to sabotage their billion dollar PlayStation business by chasing $50m revenue per PC port. They are trying to thread the needle, keep hold of console userbase, while growing the revenue on software which have exhausted sales on their platform by porting onto another. They haven't devoted even 5% of their resources behind marketing for PC ports, and for good reason. They recognize how tricky it could become.

Long-term, I don't see it hurting them. People buy consoles, because a) They are cheap b) Ease of access, you don't have fiddle around with hardware to make games run. c) Friends and family own it. None of that is going to change, look up cost of a moderately capable GPU, 99% of buyers would just run away from that. Even, when costs will normalize, you aren't building a PC for $500.

Also, day and date release is not something I can see happening this gen. They aren't morons for paying $100m to secure timed exclusivity for 3rd party games, only to release theirs day one alongside PC.

Many PC gamers don't give a damn to consoles, they wouldn't buy a PS no matter what game Sony pulled out. Such initiative is for them.

Yes, but those SSDs are required to be even faster than the one in the PS5 and will still rely on its dedicated hardware decompression. It will take a while before anything close to it will find its way onto the average PC.

Well we'll see; I think it'll be great if Sony actually does something interesting with that crazy bandwidth + decompression, but I still think most games will just continue to be similar to the games we play today, or could otherwise scale.

Sony's major studios develop their own in-house tech and they also have inter-group teams supporting tech development in XDev and Ice Teams.

There's no better engine and dev toolchain to use than the one you developed yourself from the ground up.

I would be shocked if Sony goes that route and AAA 1st party games come out Day 1 on both PS5 and PC. The fact that Jim specifically mentioned that they didn't see any negative customer feedback is actually encouraging that they're considering the potential fallout of that scenario.

Releasing 2-3 year old last-gen games on PC to generate additional sales, recoup costs, and generate interest in the PS5/sequels is a win-win for everyone except warriors who need to feel like they're part of a special club.

I fully expect Uncharted, TLOU/TLOU2, Ghosts of Tsushima, etc. to come out on PC in the next 12-18 months as PS5 starts to (hopefully) hit its stride.

It's a dangerous and risky move release playstation exclusive at the same time on pc. They could risk to move less software and hardware. It has perfectly sense when the dust is settled, not sure how you can remotely think it's their intent a simultaneous release.

I get absolutely nothing like that from their post. It just seems they’re going to continue to port more older games to build up more reasons to get in on the PS5 like the sentences before implied...

And besides, the install base for PCs that have fast enough SSDs to compete with the PS5 is far too small. It would make much more sense to wait many more years for more PCs to get fast enough drives, then port the first round of 1st party titles.

I agree I think we'll see PC ports for every one of their games going forward

I don't agree with your comparison with Microsoft since you're leaving a big piece of context out. PC for all intents and purposes to MIcrosoft is an xbox platform. They have their own built in App and Storefront. It makes sense to have same day releases, because regardless of whether you play on their console or PC, they have you within their ecosystem

That doesn't apply to PlayStation. All they're doing is generating a little bit of extra revenue with some of their games, and it says it right there in your image, their focus is getting people to choose PlayStation.

Unless Sony creates their own PlayStation ecosystem on PC, we'll never see same day releases for their games. They'll just continue to release sloppy second ports for additional revenue and generate hype for future exclusives. They can also take advantage of double dippers

It should be as simple as a config setting on consoles too. I dont know why every game has to be rereleased as a PS5 sku to take advantage of the extra PS5 horsepower. The PS5 clearly has access to the increased clocks for both the cpu and gpu in PS4 Pro's BC mode. So why cant they just increase foliage or draw distance? I wonder if its a memory bandwidth thing? Do we know if the PS5 has access to the full 448 GBps of memory bandwidth in BC mode?

I am struggling to understand the BC limitations here. This isnt the first time either. XSX and even the XSS versions of cybperunks are able to run at increased graphical fidelity in BC modes, but the PS5 is running at the same exact PS4 Pro visual settings.

It's more likely the XSS runs the PS5/XSX version with updated assets at 1080p, whereas the XB1X runs the PS4/XB1S version at 4k.

There's more to games than just framerate and resolution people.

I think the expectation is that the added power of XsX should brute force past any shortcomings of a e.g PS5 version. The more refined version, less drops, higher quality effects, better rez.

You have my sympathies, it has me wondering whether he is an expert troll or not.

His arguments tend to jump all around the place only to circle back to one (or occasionally more) of the following:

• Developers need to do their jobs properly.
• SonyToo.
• Sony fans are hypocrites.

I'm not sure why he is so obsessed with bringing up Sony or their 'fans' in every other post. Wondering whether it's like an inferiority complex. Or maybe he is.. an expert troll.
