Nier Replicant ver. 1.22474487139... |OT| Unto Thy Shade

Never played the original Nier and brought this one which how much I enjoyed automatata. Payed £38 with £4 off my next game, so not to bad.

Normally, I would agree with this but this isn’t just a simple upres port like the RE remasters which sold for like $40 each.

Which RE remasters sold for 40? That was the remakes, the RE zero, original, 4, 5 and 6 remasters were lots cheaper.

For me stuff like re-recorded dialogs and soundtrack is wasting resources, with often worse outcome then the original work ('The Lost Forest' now sounds way worse, but this is of course a very heavy biased opinion), like there was no real reason for doing it except to have something to back up the ridiculous pricing. All the added stuff is like a small expansion pack level at best (with half of it already done), leaving the combat being the only real novelty. Graphics, considering the price and the release date, is simply ugly and in certain places inferior to the original. It was a low-cost and low risk project(thanks to the fanbase brought by Automata), and should be priced accordingly. Less than 30$ if you ask me.

In the end you have your wallets, and I have mine. I will wait for papa Nier mod and a sensible price, or will simply re-play it on emu if they won't arrive in the near future. Having bought Automata for both PS4 and PC, and gifting it to two other friends I really don't mind giving them my money, but this time around I don't think they deserve the amount. But enjoy your game nonetheless, should still be awesome despite their - in my opinion low - efforts.

Any more PC impressions?

Need to decide if it's worth the gamble in getting it from GMG or CD Keys to save a bit of money or whether I need to buy it directly on Steam to get the option of the refund should I need it? Or there's always the option of getting the playstation version if the PC port is a complete bust.

Switch ports.

It was much cheaper each if you bought the REmake + 0 or the RE 4,5,6 bundle which was $60 per bundle.

Lmao

First it was all about effort where you were proven wrong.

Now it’s about a specific kind of effort?

Just admit that you were never that much interested in the first place. No need to sound high and mighty. We’ve all waited for games to come to sale when we’re personally not interested on buying it at full price. You make it sound as if you’re the arbiter of effort put into games.

I got in downloading. I'm looking forward to going through this game again.

My one early complaint is that they've kept the trophy list almost identical, including some that require some annoying grinding for parts and a speed run. This would have been a good opportunity to create a different set of trophies.

This is the game that really bonded my wife and I together. Saw it while working at GameStop for a long time and when we met, she was the one who lauded it and said I should play it.

Really looking forward to picking this up for her after work. Additionally, truly hoping for a future update that gives some PS5 performance enhancements, but moreover I hope it sells well enough that Yoko keeps his "word"(if it wasn't joking) and adds Father NiER's campaign as a DLC later.

I vaguely remember fast forwarding my system date over and over farming flowers at some point.

Got platinum in this and Automata (without buying any trophies lol).

killatopak killatopak You've proven nothing and have troubles understanding. I don't distinguish the kind of effort, just some of it I find totally senseless, like touching the already perfect OST(what is the added value of that, really?). In my judgement their total effort is at the level of an expansion, and they should charge as much. Riding on Automata's hype they charge more, apparently people are ok with it, I am not. Some people are happy with anything thrown at them, others expect more.

As I said, you have your wallet and I have mine. I've stated a few times that it's my opinion. If I would be not interested, I would have never followed it.

We have fantastic remakes like the first Starcraft, that was only 15 USD (and they even gave away the original one for free). From the very same company we have terrible remakes like W3, and the we have total cash-grabs like Burnout Paradise on Switch. Replicant at the moment is somewhere in the middle.

As an exercise you can try to imagine how this game would have been received today if it was released in this shape and price as a brand new product (or if it could have been released at all).

Anyone else having an issue with the game not starting on the Ps4 pro? It's just showing the splash screen for me and hanging. The game hasn't fully finished downloading, so I'm hoping its just a bug that the full download will fix...

Edit: It was just a bug. Games runs after full download.

We are contacting you about your pre-order for NIER REPLICANT? VER.1.22474487139...
Unfortunately we are experiencing unforeseen slight delays in the delivery of your order.
We are very sorry about this delay and thank you for your patience and continued support.
I just don't understand how the SE Store continues to be so bad with their shipping.

An OST being perfect is a very subjective thing to say which is why they changed it in the first place. An objective change would be texture quality and resolution. Stuff that can’t be opinionated. Do I think the OST is worse or not? I dunno, I haven’t gotten past the very first mission. I haven’t heard all of it yet but from the ones that I’ve heard, it’s very excellent. Reworking the OST also means they can do the dynamic blending of the background music much better just like Automata.

Yeah, I don’t have a problem whatsoever with each of our own perceived value on games.

I wouldn’t say that Automata’s popularity doesn’t have a part in this game being remastered but long time fans were asking for this for a long time.

Normally, that would be true but it’s Yoko Taro. The guy managed to get funded by Square Enix four times before he even got a game to sell well. I absolutely believe he would have gotten this game released. All of his games have been a technical mess and have historically had a shoestring budget and released at full price and this isn’t any different(PC port).

The way I look at any OST re-recording is just that it's a nice little bonus.

I've had the OST to the original NieR for like 11 years now. It's not going anywhere. I listen to it all the time.

If you told me I had the chance to hear the band get back together and get paid to re-record all the songs in a nice studio and add any new ideas they had, I'd always take them up on that opportunity. It's just additional music. I guess I have that perspective since I listen to the OST a lot outside the game, and both are readily available. The end result is 2 OSTs instead of one - twice as much music.

This game is exactly what I wanted it to be.

Its the original Nier, and its technically being boosted to PS4 levels. On par with Automata basically. Nier has the edge for me because of the story, characters, world building and even the OST.

And the gameplay is reasonably good. I like it enough for the genre. You can do some combos, deflects, fire off Weiss. It feels good and responsive.

If I do have to complain, i'd like this game to see a PS5 patch in the future. Esp. to eliminate the load times. They're not offensive but they're there.

It gives you time to read the texts though, which contain significant snippets of character colour and background lore.

Make no mistake, if Automata's binding thematic conceit was philosophers and philosophic thought, in Replicant its the power of the written word.

I really enjoyed Automata (2 trophies away from Plat) but not sure if this will match it? The soundtrack and feel of the game were pretty unique, and the variety was great! Since this one was designed a long time before and received pretty average reviews im a bit worried I'll be wasting my cash?

I can't tell you that you're going to love it. But it's the game directly prior to Automata, and the two games are loosely connected in story / mythology. It's got similar bullet hell elements, and the perspective changes. Has a great story and great OST. Also requires a few additional different playthroughs for the full story, similarly to Automata.

Based on the interview posted here a while ago, it seems that this would have originally been just an up res port. Minimal overhaul was slowly crept in like models and other minor stuff like qol things.

It’s basically in the title. It isn’t a full on remake but it isn’t a simple remaster either. Basically it’s just an upgrade. It’s in between like a 1.5 version. They just square rooted 1.5 so it resulted in 1.22..... in the title.

I actually would call this a full remake honestly. These aren’t just up-res graphics and gameplay is significantly improved. Remaster is just polishing an existing game. They have done completely new things with gameplay and graphics. Less graphical improvements than demons souls remake but more gameplay changes.

Pardon my ignorance but this is just the Replicant version, yes? Not the Gestalt version? So this game and the PS3 version are two different games?

I'm about 2 hours in.

The story is boring.

The combat is boring.

The world is empty and boring.

Please tell me it gets better? Please?

We are all Yoko-san's followers! Obviously this has been an elaborate, 11 year troll and the game just really sucks.

It’s supposed to lull you to think it’s peaceful until shit hits the fan.

Whether that’s good or not depends on the person you ask.

God, the combat feels soooooo much better than Gestalt and actually like the parry here more than Automata.

So far, so good. Not far in at all, tho. 5800x and a 3080, game is installed on an NVME, so your mileage may vary.

Edit: Take that back. Getting a lot of stutter (very frame-skippy). Not sure if it is because the game appears to be locked at 59fps for me or if it's something else. Also, 1440p, max settings, windowed mode.

The soundtrack is ridiculous. I am just in the Seaside town and its so fucking good. Every single track so far is perfect.

The combat bad? Play the original PS360 version. I think its good combat for an ARPG. You can link magic with your combos, you can parry which isn't that easy to do, I can't really spam it. Then you can launcher enemies and air combo them. There are a decent amount of moves and combos and the back evade is pretty good. I used to have a hard time with the Boar in the original but here I danced around him, backed out when he charged up. I like the combat, and the bosses so far.

I like this game more than Automata. Even the first few hours. Its just the locations, the NPC's, I like it more.

Put on a weebo T-shirt and you should like the game a lot more.
What year is it? Reminds me of 2010 when this game first came out.

It was savagely trashed by almost all reviewers as an example of how behind the times Japanese games are compared to the flawless storytellers at Bioware and Bethesda. The game sold poorly and was buried in history. The team that developed the game, CAVIA, was shut down. Yoko Taro's career as a director of console games was almost over. Platinum Games themselves while pitching projects to SQEX suggested the idea of working on NieR, a niche series with no status, no sales, and no critical review success. The sequel defied all expectations and was one of the best selling SQEX games ever put out, and was one of the top reviewed games of that extremely competitive year.

It was so shockingly successful, that SQEX greenlit Taro remaking this game specifically because almost everyone missed playing it the first time, and it was so good that they were willing to spend money on a 2nd chance of the game after it was robbed by asshole reviewers the first time.

Fast forward to 04/23/21, 11 years later. This motherfucker ....

Fuck you, fuck your weeb bullshit insults and fuck your stupid Xbox t-shirt avatar. Go play the top tier games from Bethesda and Bioware. Oh wait, there aren't any anymore. That ridiculous bubble burst after all the western-focused hype reviewers and people like you invested into a lie - that they were the "best storytellers" and far better than Japanese games.

NieR, and its sequel are fantastic games. Some of the best storytelling in the entire medium. It has nothing to do with weebs.

Anyone know how to use SpecialK working with this? I guess the guy has bailed on Steam and all the guides are super old.

Bought it on XSX so expect it on Gamepass tomorrow. Played a few hours and seems great so far. No frame drops so hopefully that is the case all the way through. I enjoy the combat more than Automata even so far at least.

I never played the original but went through Automata a few times. It really doesn’t look bad for a PS3 era uplift and the LOD is handled way better than Automata which had some of the worst pop-in I’ve seen in years. The character models are worse than Automata but are nice enough. Looking forward to a proper session when I get time.
