"Final negotiations with SCE are underway for this new game to debut on PlayStation."
Ugggghhhh....wheres the xbox love Kojima? Or better yet, Nintendo love?
Why would anyone want that? The majority of the fanbase is on playstation
"Kojima is a world famous video game developer on the same level as Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto, the creator of Mario."
Kojima is good but I don't think he is on the same level as Shigeru Miyamoto.
No.
The whole reason MGS V could be as grandiose as it was, was due to being multiplatform. The wider audience and greater possibility of high revenue allow for games to be so much larger. It is why you don't see many third parties do console exclusivity these days, and similarly why you see less exclusive first party games purely because games take a lot longer to develop and have greater expense. It is why you see so many "exclusive games" that are both on a console and PC, again for the wider audience and increased revenue that can bring to justify larger scale and scope for games. Being restricted to any single platform will only bring a "AAA" game that is limited in it's scope over something like GTA V or MGS V, since it won't be profitable enough to justify.
Why would anyone want that? The majority of the fanbase is on playstation
That doesn't give people an excuse to be disappointed that the game may not be exclusive lol It's not like it's going to skip PlayStation. It's pure fanboyism.
Pure fanboyism x Pure salt

At least it might come out on time in this scenario!
It's also nonsensical.That was a pipe dream.
So where's he at now? Sony, independent, or unknown? I can't keep up with the thread at work!
As much as I enjoy watching MS burn things to the ground in their typically inept matter, I am happy it's not going to happen this time. Was hoping Microsoft would land a deal here.
If Metal Gear Solid V is the direction he's going with his games he can make them exclusive to commodore 64 as far as I'm concerned. That's just my opinion. I know it won't be popular. I also liked Rocky V, so take my opinion however you want.
I know right. Kojima is far superior to Miyamoto.
If Kojima came in gift-wrapped with the MGS IP, then maaaaaaybe I could see it happening.
So we may learn about his before the end of the year?
Is it me or are people masturbating furiously at the prospect of his work being limited to Sony hardware?
I find it all a bit baffling to be honest.
I don't think he wants another company to own his IPs anymore after konami controversy.
I think it's clear that Unreal Engine 4 is more advanced than the FOX Engine. Unless Sony can lend his team some internal resources to help create a new engine (which I seriously doubt considering he will be going multiplatform one day), Unreal Engine 4 would be his smartest bet.
It will take years to build a brand-new engine from the ground up for modern consoles. Time is expensive, especially for a Start up. He will need to find ways to cut dev time in order to pay his people. He can run out of cash real quick.
Yep, get Kojima to work on the very thing he's been trying to escape for over a decade. Great use of talent.
That wasn't what he was saying. He was saying that he could only see MS securing a game like this if it came with a an establish IP. Metal gear was the example.
Yeah, enough said lol.
Might also be that Sony could grant him the resources and room for creative vision. I mean, I would never expect MS or Nintendo to allow games like The Last Guardian or SoTC to exist, let alone revive after 10 years of development or whatever.
Legal bullshit can take time so I would bet if he is deep in talks already and nothing crazy happens we wont hear about things until early next year.
I know. I'm just saying that would be a terrible thing to do.
Probably not, I doubt we'll see anything about this until the next major event. So we may learn about his before the end of the year?
lmao wow
While I think you're understating the potential scope of a big-budget AAA exclusive, I agree with your general premise. However, which third parties are going to provide Kojima the creative freedom he wants, big budgets he needs, the Japanese studio space to make it all happen? Konami did because he was with them forever. Who's left?
In terms of fame? I'd argue he's above him."Kojima is a world famous video game developer on the same level as Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto, the creator of Mario."
Kojima is good but I don't think he is on the same level as Shigeru Miyamoto.
Prime Kojima vs Prime Miyamoto. Discuss. /jk
I don't think the two are comparable. Kojima deals with a different genre as opposed to Kojima. Would you want an MGS where the ending is they "shake hands"? Just the same I don't want a Mario game where Mario crawls around on a cardboard box.. wait.. KojixMiyamoto crossover please !! But technically they are both great on their respective genre and being compared to one another does not take anything away from that.
In terms of fame? I'd argue he's above him.
In what? Number of Metal Gear games created?Miyamoto is more prolific, and no doubt has the more influential body of work, but Kojima is absolutely superior in some areas.
You can't be serious. In terms of fame? I'd argue he's above him.
What if his next game's for iOS/Android?
I believe that Kojima without the shackles will probably take 10 years to finish a game. He suffers from the same disease as Kazunori Yamauchi of always trying to make everything perfect and never being satisfied with less than that.
I like Kojima creative ideas but with free reign we will probably his next game during the PStreamBox generation.
Was hoping Microsoft would land a deal here.
In what? Number of Metal Gear games created?
You can't be serious.
"Guy who created Mario and Donkey Kong" is going to be well ahead of "guy who created game most people have never heard of."
You guys are nuts.
I leave GAF for a few hours because tons of work, I come back and...

Seeing how some people flipped out at the idea of Kojima working for Sony (which he seemingly isn't, just apparently considering a type of "first") is amazing.
Will have to take time reading the .. oh my, 32 pages...
He doesn't need to. He probably would have to get his own studio together if he goes independent, there would be no shortage of investors and always the possible kickstarter route if needed. It's also possible to work out exclusivity agreements to help with funding. He could go digital only if he wanted and self-publish. He would likely still be extremely successful, no publisher necessary. Marketing could be as trivial as youtube videos and game trailers going viral, or cutting deals with platform holders to do it. There's lots of possibilities.
Miyamoto is more prolific, and no doubt has the more influential body of work, but Kojima is absolutely superior in some areas.
