Nintendo Downloads - December 2014

Yay, Fairune.
Wait, a Circle Ent game came out in Europe before America? I'm going through this one right now. I'll say resist the temptation to look at a walk through as usually if you're stuck it is because you've overlooked something which after taking a break and coming back to you'll probably figure it out.

Just going into it knowing it is probably a few hours long, may go on sale (as most Circle Ent games do) and I don't know if it has the leader board of the smartphone versions (you can submit how long your playthrough was).

Well, I just bought all the GB Mega Man games, because, hey, why not, they're cheap.
And I bought Mega Man X3 because I had X and X2, but not X3.
And I bought Mega Man Zero, because, hey, why not.
Also bought Gargoyle's Quest 2, because I realized I hadn't gotten that yet.
Also bought Out of This Another World to mix things up a bit.

I may have a problem >.>

Hahaha I know the feeling. Having one game missing in a set of 3 feels so wrong. The only way to right that wrong is by buying the missing game and making the set (and your life) complete.

I'm not spending $4.99 on a poorly emulated NES game. Give me Donkey Kong Country or give me death.

Anyone know the difference between AiRace Speed and AiRace Xeno? I just bought Xeno for ~$1.70 and I like it a lot.

Is Speed more of the same? The game looks and feels really impressive and the 3D is deep. I'm not a huge fan of tunnel racers, but even I like this.

Indeed. It's like, "I have Mega Man X and Mega Man X2, why don't I have Mega Man X3?"
I don't even really care as much for the X series in general >.>

There are already plenty of bad (and good) games on PS Mobile for Vita, they just get ignored (like meme run should be)

This. Let's not act like Vita owners overrate games because it's completely untrue.

Oh yeah, 1001 Spikes still exists, doesn't it.

Wat wat did I miss something?

I'll pick up Art of Balance on sale. Another World, too, but not sure if I should go for Wii U or 3DS.

I'm hoping Duck Hunt next week doesn't mean no DKC....

BTW, I highly recommend Armillo at that sale price. I'm not too far into the game but it's super fun and really brings me back to N64-era 3D platformers.

Re: Art of Balance, how often do Shin'en games go on sale? I need to get NAEx and JR2 as well

4 new 3DS themes up, all $1.99:

- Super Mario: Blue
- A Very Mario Holiday
- Animal Crossing: New Leaf: Jingle's Toy Day
- Metal Gear Solid Snake Eater 3D

Just on gameplay alone, that game ended up being more frustrating than fun for me, but I can understand how a certain contigent of gamer would love it. I got burned out on it pretty quickly.

I played the XNA version (Aban Hawkins & the 1001 Spikes) so I'm already down with the gameplay. It's crazy that it's still not out. Same with Azure Striker Gunvolt, tbh. :/

Nope. They do, quite often in fact. Many times I'll see several people hyping-up *insert random indie game here*, which prompts me to check out Steam, resulting in me purchasing a game that's...middling.

I've never seen a fanbase more apt to barge in to a thread (having absolutely nothing to do with the platform) and crow about JUST HOW PERFECT the game would be for the Vita.

I'm undecided on whether or not I want to spend $6.70 on Art of Balance. If I'm $7 short on DDP on Dec. 31 I guess I will.

I still need to spend $30 for my last DDP and while Duck Hunt is a lock and I meant to grab Gargoyle's Quest II and Mighty Final Fight, I'm not sure if I really have another $15 worth of things to buy.

Not to turn this into a race war but this is true.

BTW, I got a holiday gift of Viewtiful Joe 2 for PS2 from a generous GAFer. He included a small watercolor painting of Nabbit!! It's so rad. I've got it on my fridge. I'll try to take a pic.

Off-topic, but I so wish VJ would come to PSN via PS2 Classics....or a HD Collection...

Alright, back on topic.

If I were to just get one of Mega Man 5, 6, or 7, which one should it be?
I don't remember much about 5, 6 was a decent entry if not for the fact it was the first game to introduce armor you could collect, & 7 wasn't bad but it felt a bit zoomed in when compared to the others.

I GUESS I would say 6.

Pretty infrequently, I think. I want to say just a few times per day.

Sorry, but should I get this as "often" or "rarely"? I don't understand lol

Just reminding myself that it's still not out in Europe.

That's not true, bad indie games available on Vita just get ignored. If you bought games based on Vita owners suggestion and didn't like them that doesn't mean they overrate games, maybe those games just weren't for you ( for reference, I bought Kung fu Rabbit off of maxcriden suggestion and I didn't really love the game, yet I still like max's posts, haha <3 )
But really, I don't think that a bad indie game was ever hyped by vita owners, of which I'm part, and tbh I kinda feel offended by this. :/

This is isn't related with what you were accusing Vita owners for though. Also, this is not a bad thing since Vita is a handheld and I can perfectly see why people want handheld versions of games available on home systems. I'd love if every game had a Vita or 3DS release.

It most certainly is annoying as shit to enter the Ghost Song thread or hell, even the pre-announcement tease thread of what became Etrian Odyssey: Millennium Girl and watch as people try to justify why the experience would be somehow better on the Vita. I fully understand wanting games, I don't understanding entering threads that have nothing to do with that platform and making a case for why they should be part of the discussion--until a port of is announced, why threadshit by entertaining the idea that a port is even remotely possible.

I mean, fuck, up until Shovel Knight was finally announced every goddamn thread relating to the title had multiple posts asking, "why isn't this on my Vita yet?" Being a 3DS fan, I don't enter every friggin Spelunky thread asking about why a port hasn't graced my 3DS yet, I accept that it hasn't yet for whatever reason and hope it gets one.

Any particular reason you like 6 the least? Since the others are recommending it.

More just a matter of I think the series went downhill after 3, with a slight bump up for 7 on SNES.
Basically, I would say 3 > 2 > 1 > 4 > 5 > 7 > 6

So it's not so much that 6 is significantly worse, as it is part of a general progression with a slight bump up for 7.

Not actually that important
It's a mess. It sounds like shit, they removed the two-weapon carry limit and the bomb, they replaced the overhead stages with stages randomly pulled from Contra Hard Corps, etc. I wish they'd just made an original game for GBA instead of butchering two classics, but what's done is done.
The sound is your tipical SNES > GBA butcher job, true, but the game is absolutely great.
And Contra III is one of my favorite games of all time, I didn't mind the two Hard Corps' levels mash-up. Yeah, removing the smart bomb and dual wielding were ill-decisions, absolutely.

Of course, since the Wii U has the proper Contra III games, I see no reason to grab this one on VC, but I love playing my GBA cart.

I think 6 is the best of those. 7 goes to two stage select screens with four bosses each, which I don't like. The music in 7 is also pretty bad as far as MM games go. 5 is uh.. was that the one with Ring Man and Pharaoh Man? Maybe that was 4. 4 and 5 blend together for me. 5 was OK. 6 doesn't get much attention because it came out around the same time as MMX did, so most nostalgia value is blocked by X. It's a solid game though. I'd put it right behind 2 and 3.

Really though, you can't go wrong with original series Mega Man.

The Next Penelope (also coming to Steam this January in E.A.) is probably my most wanted *already announced* Wii U game next to Zeruda and Starfox:

Made by Arkedo's co-founder, all by himself (art, coding, music...).
Looks incredible and the gameplay is super exciting, story-based F•Zero-ish 2D racer meets '90s shmup... look for yourselves:

(You can also see set this at 60fps!)

To be fair, I did buy all of them again, and I do think they're all worth buying when you get the chance.

Just, there's definitely a noticeable drop-off (in my opinion) after 3, and a steady decline after that.
But all of the main series is still at least better than any of the spin-off series

The perspective and light trail behind the vehicle makes the game remind me of the Art Style game, Light Trax.

LOL. Year! Sorry. I meant year.

Ah got it! Thanks! oh well. It's not like I want to spend a lot right now lol

Retro City Rampage.

Edit: Lone Survivor.
I haven't played either since I'm not into the genres, but Retro City Rampage has got a lot of praise on every system it has been released on, including 3DS. Let's not pretend it's a game that just Vita owners hyped up while everyone else hated because it's not true at all.
I donìt know about Lone Survivor but I'm pretty sure it's a similar situation. Both games are critically acclaimed and Vita owners are not the only gamers who praised those games. So, again, I think the problem is that those games just aren't suited for you, rather than Vita owners' behaviour...

Again, Shovel Knight portbegging definitely wasn't just made by Vita owners. I clearly remember people asking for next gen versions.

I don't know about the other cases as I wasn't interested(Ghost Song is cool though, never heard of it before, can I say that I hope it comes to Vita someday? :) ) but still, you should be less aggressive towards vita owners because you're mostly overreacting.
