Nintendo Switch 2 |OT| Switch 2 Nintendo, because now we're playing with power

Looking forward to reading impressions on here in the coming weeks.

I'll definitely grab one in the future, most likely whenever the new Mario or Zelda drops.

Picking mine up next week. Can't wait, I'm more than ready to retire my Switch (1).

Can't wait! I have a whole week off of work starting launch day. My Walmart pre-order is holding steady, despite all the horror stories of canceled pre-orders out there. Got a Pro Controller 2, Mario Kart, and Rune Factory showing up, and gonna snag Ridge Racer day one as well.

New hardware excitement!!

I keep checking my mail, my preorder page and my bank account to see if the money is removed and nothing... knowing the store (smyths) I'll have it delivered on the 4th of june and have it on the 6th on the dot.

That's not GOOD ENOUGH! Why do they have to be so professional?

I'm mainly interested to see how badly cyberpunk runs in handheld mode. Docked mode was running pretty badly.

Also, for those who understand, the cheapest time to buy a console in this new era is at launch. At least in Canada. PS4 increased in price shortly after launch. Ps5 increased in price after launch. Xbox increased in price after launch. If you think you might want the console in the next 2 years, just buy it at launch.

It's not a house. Just save up for three months.

Wild that Nintendo has a whole 2 GAMES at launch, one being a glorified instruction manual

Also no, I will not count 2 zelda games that has a patch in it as a new game.

Shame I couldn't snag a preorder, but I didn't really try so oh well. I'll pick one up when they're readily available I guess. Hopefully before DK drops.

It's a bit crazy that Nintendo didn't have a better lineup considering how they've probably been pushing the release of NS2 forward quite a bit. I'd have expected to already have heard news about the next Zelda and the release date for the next mainline Mario.

Ditto. I remembered that night and decided I'd lightly try, I got further than I thought I would before everything crapped out and I gave up, lol. Hopefully the turn around isn't too bad, but it's all good, I also have no problem waiting a bit.

I didn't take a closer look at the game until last week. It looks crazy, totally filling in for Mario. In a vacuum of Mario this game will be under a huge microscope...if they dropped Mario first it would be more passed over.

I thought registering for one through Nintendo would be enough but nope lol

Not bothered though. Mario Kart seems cool but not "OMG I NEED THIS NOW" like BOTW was

It's weird that Donkey Kong is only like a month out, seems like they obviously wanted that to be a launch title but just couldn't quite make it in time. Also weird that Metroid Prime 4 has been cooking for what seems like forever, and still isn't releasing alongside the new console.

Same, this has been rumored for ages and I felt Nintendo was in the kitchen cooking.

Instead they were on the couch drunk and just ordered door dash

I'm not sold that they are not just sitting on finished games and intentionally spreading release schedule.

We assume they are trying their best to finish the games and have them for launch because we give the benefit of the doubt that a failure is unintentional.

Should include third party games logo in the OP too, because there are really some big games; Hogwarts, Cyberpunk, Elden Ring, Duskbloods

Nintendo always strategically spaces out their releases. Since when has launch day been the only factor. This year we're getting a brand new Mario Kart, a brand new Donkey Kong, a brand new Metroid Prime game, a brand new Pokemon game. That's a pretty good launch year and all the updates to older games.

People saying Mario Kart is not a good launch title are gonna be floored when they see the sales next week.

Yeah, same, lmao. I thought, "Hey, why not? Seems cool." and thought it would have a different outcome, but nope, radio silence. It's all good though.

That's where I'm at too. Don't get me wrong, I love Mario Kart and a new one sounds exciting, but I don't feel the radical "need it now" vibes.

The system itself is already quite expensive for most customers, and Mario Kart should have enough content to last a while. It's simply not necessary to have more games available at launch.

DK is timed perfectly for when players might get a bit bored of MK and by then they will have a new paycheck to afford another game.

MP4 is a crossgen game, which they obviously don't want to focus on too much right now. All eyes should be on exclusive S2 content to entice customers to invest in new hardware.

Apols if this has been covered a zillion times but I have been mental busy lately. I am going to be in Japan in July, if there is stock available I may impulse buy a Switch 2. Is the console region locked in any way that would make this a bad idea? (outside of the fact that I am purely buying it because I am a console whore)

I think Nintendo believes that staggering their releases is going to be a more profitable strategy than frontloading a bunch of games at launch.

This is basically how they handled the Switch 1 too, with one major title at launch (BotW), one a month later (MK8D) and then a mix of major and minor titles throughout the launch year, with roughly one release every month or so. That approach seems to have worked out pretty well for them, so it makes sense that they would try to replicate it.

It also lets them ration demand for the console a bit, and possibly spread it more evenly through the year, though launch day is sure to be a manic shitshow regardless.

Common misconception, Duskbloods is not a launch game its next year. Not that you were necessarily saying so, but every other game in this list is at launch so it's easy to conflate.

IIRC, you should be able to buy the normal version as well. It will be pricier tho.

Breath of the Wild was a cross-gen game as well, and look how that turned out.

But I do get what you're saying, just disappointing to have to wait as someone with disposable income who would 100% buy these games right now if they were released.

The Japanese version isn't region locked, but the eShop / digital stuff will only work with a Japanese Nintendo account. You won't be able to use your regular account, and if you want to buy digital games or DLC you'll have to use a Japanese payment method.

2 version in Japan. The less expensive version (Japan only) is region-locked. Go for the more expensive, multi-language support version (open region).

You're posting on a public forum, by your action you're putting it out there for people to understand.

Just get your head out of your ass already, geez. Shitting up this OT which should be a celebration. Go bitch somewhere else.
It's an OT for people getting a Switch 2. I'm getting a switch 2. There's an ignore button, use it instead of complaining because you don't like my opinions.

I mean you're not wrong

Releasing with 1 "new" title is really bad.
It's very bad indeed. Some folks are just salty because it's being called out.

They should direct their ire at Nintendo who has decided to release a console with basically the same ui and very little "new" games. It's essentially a rehash of the Xbox series strategy except even the Xbox series had more "new" games than Nintendo. Just no first party game.

Nintendo would probably have more games if they were releasing in the holiday season. Instead we get the same staggered launch of Switch 1 that culminated at Christmas with all the titles released the past year starting with BOTW and finale of Mario Odyssey. To them this was better than having Zelda and Mario in March and then needing even more heavy guns within mere months. They have already sold every Switch 2 they can make so what's the difference? What Nintendo wants to do is build up the install base of Switch 2 with a lead-up so it has a bigger pool of customers to buy games as they come out without "wasting" those game releases on a small install base just to sell a system that is already sold.

The launch lineup looks fine to me, and the fact that most Switch 1 games are backwards compatible is a huge reason why I wanted one Day One. My only gripe with the launch lineup is that we're only getting three new games that are actually on physical carts (Mario Kart World, Rune Factory, and Cyberpunk). Those game key cards can get fucked.

Super hyped for MKWorkd and Bravely Default remaster.

But biggest game I'm hyped for is Donkey Kong Bananza which coming the next month.

It's probably low down on the totem pole of release day excitement, but I'm pumped for that Arcade Archives Ridge Racer release.

I'm definitely mad about the game key cards debacle, but I was going to buy at least one anyway, the Bravely Default release, just to see how it is, but you literally can't pre-order it from anywhere (that I can find, anyway).

Launch lineup is terrible. Mainly old games which is a shame.
Yea, because the console only bundle was "sold out" during preorders. So instead of paying $629.99, we instead got the privilege of paying $699.99.

Honestly, the closer we get to launch, the harder it is for me to be excited by this thing. Well, when I eventually receive my unit from Best Buy, if I don't like it, I'll just try and flip it for more.

Are you retarded? You're spending $700 on a console you hate? Do you value your time at all?

It's objectively terrible. You can excuse Nintendo all you want but it's a rubbish launch line up. I preordered the Mario kart bundle and I don't necessarily want Mario kart because this version looks inferior. Plus something about the art style makes it look like a mobile game from gameloft. However, since you can get it "cheaper" via the bundle, it's a no brainer.

Like I said, mainly old games and DK looks boring as hell. We'll see if it was as boring and pointless as Super Mario Odyssey. The first good game might be Metroid or Fast Fusion so we'll see how those turns out.
Objectively terrible, then goes on to completely subjective opinions.

Launch looks good. Launch window looks even better.

Launch lineup is fine, MKworld will be enough just as BotW was enough for switch 1. This time i get to play upgraded games that I've been holding out on.

Has anyone noticed that the Switch 2 Dock seems to be completely non-existent, not possible to order anywhere?

I have a couple of places where I play so love having docks for each.
