Does everyone play in the same galaxy or is content pulled randomly from other peoples game?

Like if I play offline first and then connect to the internet, how would that work? My galaxy might be different.

If you're on ps4 and don't mind digital, there's really no reason not to buy from us psn. It's cheaper and unlocks earlier.

It's not even out in Japan until the end of the month, but I'll be playing it here in less than 22 hours.

I'm a bit weird about not wanting different games locked to different PSN accounts.

Hype is back! One more day! Hnnngg!!!
I'll take my controller with me to work tomorrow, so I can remote play during my lunch break. What a time to be alive.

I am fortunate enough to have a decent sized bedroom which doubles as a sort of entertainment room. Then again there isn't much one can do with apartment living to begin with.

Both my PC tower and PS4 share my HDTV

Of course some folks have their living room setup with large 60+ inch HDTVs and wouldn't accommodate playing their PC games through their HDTV due to how large some PC towers can be and wouldn't fit in an entertainment center (outside some HTPC sort of micro tower) despite the fact most modern GPUs and motherboards have HDMI connectors for this very purpose.

Still even if I play NMS on my PS4 or PC it makes no difference in my circumstances, but the case of the PC version it will probably look better and have better performance.

But yes couch comfort PC gaming is a thing, also the keyboard and mouse shown in the picture above aren't even used anymore. Such are the wonders of Wireless accessories and Bluetooth.

And....Amazon still has yet to ship my order and I got the depressing image that says "Arriving by 8PM tomorrow" Which usually means Amazon is using their own courier again and I won't get my package in any reasonable time frame. The last time they tried to do the "claim to make a delivery but actually never did" sort of thing.

I just want to play NMS now.

Well one reason would be multi language I guess

I agree, that's a good reason. But if you're on gaf, it's probably not really an issue unless you game share with someone who it is an issue for.

Yeah. I hear you. I have three accounts from three regions, but I only really buy something from my JP/UK accounts if it's dirt cheap. My uk account may be my main account with psplus, but the US one is the one I've made 90% of my purchases with. Probably saved ~£500-800 over the years.

The game is procedurally, not randomly generated, like the OT tried to make absolutely clear.

I get that. But what if I am playing offline. Start at a planet. It is generated locally, I destroy things and name it. Then I connect online. And in the online galaxy there is already a planet that is different (at least in some ways as i destroyed stuff). How does the game solve that?

the planets are all the same for everyone

Have been wondering the same thing.

That's not how it works. Even if you only play offline the galaxy that's generated for you will be exactly the same as the one generated for everyone else. It's not random generation, it's procedural generation. For some input X, Y, Z (the player's 3D position) the generation algorithms will always return the same output. This impression some people have that the first person to visit a planet determines what it looks like, and that's then shared with everyone else, is completely wrong. It will look exactly the same no matter who gets there first, and also for people playing offline.

(The day 1 patch seems to tweak some of the generation stuff though, so this only applies to people playing the same version of the game.)

All changes you made are saved locally on your HDD and still remain.

The seed for universe generation will be the same regardless whether you play offline or online. It's not going to have two separate instances unless you refuse to connect your PS4 to the net and not get updates which add content to the game or something.

Here's hoping PC gets a pre-load soon at the very least, considering we are waiting two extra days for "reasons" that still aren't clear.

So wait, can I name the planet if I discovered it first and then that name is uploaded and if somehow someone visits it someday, it would be the same name originally chosen by me?

Yes, that is how it works. Discover a planet first, claim your discovery at the Atlas which it is uploaded to NMS's servers and name it and others will see it.

It's almost as if you didn't read the amazing OT or any of the links contained in it.

I'm really looking forward to people finding the extreme fringe cases of the procedural generation.

Hopefully an update adds planet diameter since finding the smallest/largest sounds like fun.

Made a video for YouTube to celebrate that it's finally here, and wanted to share the preview image. My train of thought is that No Man's Sky will essentially be your new girlfriend, or something...

Bonus 1970s Sean Murray within the Atlas symbol!

Now why'd you have to go and post those screengrabs? I'm either going to get stuck on livestreams or attempt to sleep for 20 hrs. Hmph!

I don't think I have ever been this engaged with the development of a game. Since 2014 I've waited for patiently for 2 years and its just round the corner now. Boy the HYPE is real for this one. I think I've bought the game 3 times now from 3 different places just to be sure I'll get it day 1 or even before.

That AA is coming too. Man it'll be so cool if they continue to improve the visuals in areas, along with the other gameplay stuff they add.

Is it possible to get better draw distance and less popup on the PC version?

Kinda looks pretty bad on the PS4 videos I have seen a few months ago.

Probably already answered a hundred times but -

1. Same galaxy.
2. First to upload. (I'd guess)

Yo I got a question. Can you fly your fighter inside a planet? like take to the sky and explore the planet that way? or you got to land and explore on foot.

You can fly around at leisure in-atmosphere. Very useful for getting around to find valuable minerals and beacons.

The ship automatically prevents you from crashing so you can't get too close to the ground but generally flying around is totally valid.
