Depending on the species they can have different reactions, so I'm looking forward to doing this extensively on my explorer playthrough on PC.

Thus far I've only tried it once, made a little squirrel-goat happy. Then I killed him. He shouldn't have trusted me.

How do you feed them?

OK Gaf, I think I have a problem. I played this game 10h and I'm still on my first planet. There is always a new point of interest...

From my experiences on the planets I've visited, sentinels seem to universally hate it when I try and blast through security doors, dislike it when I destroy plants or hurt any life form, and seem to range wildly from attack you or don't care at all with minerals. I farmed huge stacks of Emeril with sentinels flying around, and they could've cared less. The reaction speed and intensity has varied based on the sentinel behavior rating for that world.

They go f'ng crazy the second I fire a shot at a security door. It's like I'm trying to destroy the planet.

omg I've finally found a planet with lots of grass and trees.

The animals here are fucking HUGE too. The biggest I've seen is a massive stegosaurus looking beast.

I think I'm gonna be spending a lot of time on this planet :)

Yeah, apparently you can't backtrack. I wish I had known that.

Just wanted to reiterate this this is absolutely false. In fact, I carved a smiley face into a rock, flew to the next system, backtracked to the previous system, and found that the rock still has a smiley face in it after leaving the system.

It can be hard to back track to the same system, given how many stars there are. :)

At least now we know that changes really do persist, even if you leave the system.

p.s. Still in love with the game. (30 hours ish)

Make sure to do everything you want to there before your leave, because depending on your luck you won't be able the find your way back. The universe/galaxy isn't as real/persistent as they'd like you to believe. Seems to be down to how the servers are feeling or something.

You heartless bastard!

Have some carbon handy, go up to them and hold square.

Edit: I had a little dog like creature last night shit gold for me.

How do you feed them?
It's not necessarily carbon but yeah, it'll tell you if you can feed them and what.

Beware that being in feeding distance of a creature is not necessarily safe. :p Some are hostile if they can even see you, some will become hostile if you get close.

If you're lucky, the stars are aligned, and the servers work. Or something. My previous systems don't exist on my galaxy map anymore.

I made a bunch of warp cells but no one is taking them. How come? I even went to the trading post still doesn't show when I sell it.

I just bought the soundtrack by 65daysofstatic on iTunes. So so so so fucking good. Reminds me a bit of Godspeed You! Black Emperor.. love it!

Quick question regarding the Anomaly Stations

In one, I've chosen to take a shortcut through the black hole, and now my waypoint to Atlas is SUPER far away, so does that mean I keep jumping toward the center until I find another Anomaly Station and request to get back on the path of Atlas? Also, has anyone requested resources to help on travel from that same NPC? What does he give you?

It doesn't store changes such as rock carving on the servers, it simply dumps the changes on the local machine.

As to previous systems disappearing, not sure why that would happen given the algorithm that generates the galaxy is going to generate it exactly the same for everyone.

Now it storing your discoveries on the galactic map properly (showing the names of previously discovered systems) could certainly be affected by the servers as those are supposed to be uploaded. (although they are having some issues with that to be sure).

Loving this game! It's such an interesting experience.

I don't expect it to happen at all, but I really hope they take a look at the controls for looking around. The look acceleration curve feels so crappy. Combined with the super low FOV, it doesn't feel great. It doesn't ruin the game or anything, but it could feel SO MUCH BETTER.

I've been playing about 30 hours since launch and despite the apparent sameyness I find myself getting lost in this game.

Especially the achievements in art and sounddesign have me hooked as fuck.
I get most of the complaints surrounding it, but I couldn't care less. It provides such incredible moments. Insane stuff on an audiovisual level, on par with handcrafted masterpieces like Journey imo. Insane accomplishment.

Still debating on if I should get the game. It seems to me like this is one for the long haul in terms of discovering more content. The basic gameplay cycle looks fun enough, but is this a good game for just exploring and chilling out? Anyone played a ton of it and seen more than others?

So when you visit a star system, is it really a set of planets spread around a sun and you can move between each planet?

Or are the planets of a system always conveniently grouped together and the sun is just a pretty backdrop behind them?

Has anyone been able to get into an underwater building?

It got pinpointed on the map and I died trying to get into the building lol

All my stuff is down there and its too hard to get back to without being able to enter that building

I how no clue where to go next. I went to the last
Atlas station,
walked away to keep going to the center, and now I'm just following the orange path. I feel like I'm not making any progress though, like I'm missing something.

I'm finding this game to be pretty relaxing. It didn't quite break my Overwatch addiction, and with Deus Ex coming out soon I wonder if I'll make it to the center of the galaxy in time.

I might just play this as a 'whenever' game, just pick up and play. I own it digitally, so it's no so much of a hassle to switch to a disc. Plus, I bet this game will get a ton of QOL elements in upcoming patches (stacking, etc).

Only on my third planet, lol. I have to break my OCD.

When you're on a planet wondering around is there a quick way to get back to your ship? Because i wonder quite far out and it takes me a while to walk back to it...

I can't believe what I'm reading about in the legendary NMS MP thread. I mean, we're giving Sean shit for his Twitter handle now too.

I love you OT peeps. Stay civilized!
One more sleep! One!

Damn, reading the others thread is making me question my sanity and (most of GAF's alike xD).

I'm glad some of you are enjoying the game for what it is. Never seen a game being torn apart with that much hate. I really don't understand the hatred and vitriol.

That said: has anyone been using per pre-order ship? Does it really make a big difference?

My dog passed away Sunday and I named my home planet after her. It was by far the most lush in the system so I spent a lot of time there. I got this same exact feeling as I was about to make my second warp.

If you hit up on the dpad in the galaxy map, it initiates a scan. Then keep hitting right on the dpad to advance to previous discoveries and eventually you should find your home system. After that, hit square on it to save it as a waypoint.

Quoting this for future reference.

How much better can your scanner get?

Feels like it doesn't detect anything beyond a small distance, and the icons highlighting everything disappear after not too long. Also feel like it is hard to tell which flora/fauna you have discovered vs. not.

Also flying around close to the surface, I can't scan for shit. Doesn't help that it is difficult to look at what you are flying over due to the cockpit shape/camera control.

Just wanted to backtrack on this to offer a tip that (personally) helps me see the surface of planets better as I'm roving. The effectiveness of this will vary depending on the cockpit design of your ship, but I find that if you just simple fly around up-side down, rather than right-side-up you get a way clearer view of the surface below you. Doesn't even inhibit your ability to land.

Food for thought.

I'm on a planet, super far from my ship. How do I easily get back without dieing? Only way is to die? I don't want to lose all my shit.

I'm pretty sure it has a few extra slots, so it's useful in that sense. I wasn't going to bother with it but I couldn't dismiss the "unclaimed items" prompt I kept getting, so I just switched over to it.

If you don't want to make the trek back, you can keep looking for new ? locations. Some of them have a reddish small beacon that will call your ship to that location, and just require a bypass chip to use (which you start with the recipe for, think it is just carbon & iron).

Woah, very cool, need to try this and get back to my home planet

Just got into my first space battle. I loved it! Having to replenish shields in the inventory screen is a bit of a nuisance, but overall I enjoyed myself :). This game is incredible <3

Make sure that theyre in the right inventory, when selling it splits your exosuit/spaceship inventories.

Yup, you have to ask to
be aided in finding an atlas interface.

That's great to know, trying this out tonight
