It's like the Pedro/Zimmer thing last year; 60 or 16, if you dish shit out, you better be ready to take some right back.
But he just said that he still had a drink in his hand, and thus WASN'T the guy who "dished shit out". So the rationalization then becomes...?

No, apparently what happened was that the 60-something guy threw the beer at Artest, and Artest charged at a dude who was laughing and pointing at him, thinking that dude threw the beer. While Artest was beating the crap outta that dude, the 60-something guy who threw the beer came in and started suckerpunching Artest in the back of the head. Artest was wrong in that he hit the guy who (apparently) didn't do anything, but even then the 60 year old dude kept hitting him. It's just a big mess.

Err, I think you've got the guys backwards. The 60 year old dude is the guy who didn't do anything, was still holding the beer, and got attacked by artest. The punk people are referring to, who is definitely not 60, was the guy (wearing a baseball hat) who comes up from behind.

because he overreacted to start the whole damn thing. he was frustrated his team got beat and overreacted like a punk. everyone on ESPN and the commentators said the same thing.

not only that, artest is laying on the table away from everything and staying calm, and ben throws a towel at him? wtf is that?

i agree the push was wrong, but ben didnt place rons dumbass in the crowd and make him punch people.

Honestly im surprised it took this long for it to get really bad between these two team...you could always feel it brewing under the surface.

"Prior to Sprewell's ban, the longest suspensions for violence in league history were 26 games given to Kermit Washington for punching opponent Rudy Tomjanovich during in a game in 1977; 11 games given to Dennis Rodman for kicking a courtside cameraman last year; and 10 games to Vernon Maxwell for going into the stands in Portland and attacking a heckler in 1995. Sprewell already has missed 26 games."

This is Maxwell 2.0. Not as bad as the dumbshit fan that was heckling Max cause of his stillborn daughter in Portland. Max ran up 10 seats and clocked the guy.

I forgot what happened with the whole lawsuit and everything, but he got 10 games suspension.

UNDER THE SURFACE? Carlisle (Used to coach Pistons, was fired) goes right to the Pacers and the Pacers start kicking the Pistons' asses. That is BIG, on top of them both vying for the top spot in the east.

eh it wasn't even a hard foul, artest barely tapped him. If the NBA suspends any of the pacers for a lengthy amount of a time, it would be bullshit, the NBA needs to protects its players first.

I agree completely. I say Jackson should be hit hardest.

Sickening.

I'm pretty surprised no one in the crowd had a knife or anything on them. This actually could have been so much worse.

Damn, didn't see where Wallace threw the towel at Artest....what a coincidence that a beer got thrown 10 seconds later...Wallace banned from NBA!!!1 :lol

Milicic benched during Pistons-Pacers brawl
By Jim Margalus
Friday, November 19th, 2004

DETROIT (sPERTS.net) – Even if he’s not going onto the floor, Darko Milicic can’t get off the bench.
After Friday night’s Pistons-Pacers game was interrupted and eventually cancelled by a players-fans brawl in the stands, Larry Brown didn't allow Milicic to see action.

After Ron Artest and the Pacers rushed the stands, almost every Piston joined the fracas...
The second pick overall in the 2003 NBA Draft sat and watched as teammates defended fans against furious Indiana players.

“I do what coach tells me to,” Milicic told the media after the game. “That’s all I have told you guys, and that’s all I can tell you guys.”

The brawl began with 45 seconds left in the game with the Pacers ahead 97-82. Indiana’s Ron Artest went to the sidelines after receiving a hard shove to the face from Detroit forward Ben Wallace. A fan threw a drink on Artest while he lay on the scorer’s table, and the erratic star jumped into the stands. A melee ensued as his teammates followed.

All the Pistons joined the brawl to try to restore some peace except Milicic, who was ordered by Larry Brown to stay seated.

“I couldn’t believe what happened, and I got up to help,” he said. “That’s when coach put his hand on my shoulder and said, ‘Not today, Darko.’”

Brown has faced a lot of criticism in regards to his handling of Milicic. After the Pistons used their first pick in last year’s draft on the Serbian phenom, he only played 159 minutes in his rookie year. This year has not been any different, as the seven-footer has only played in one game.

...but Darko Milicic was forced to remain in his seat.
“He’s coming along, but I don’t think he has what it takes to rumble in the stands at this point,” Brown said. “Europeans are a lot more fundamentally sound, but they lack that necessary aggression.”

Brown said that Milicic is effective from long range, but the Palace of Auburn Hills does not allow Molotov cocktails.

”Maybe in Serbia, but not here,” Brown reiterated.

Brown has reserved Milicic for games in which the Pistons are soundly ahead, and maintains that practicing with Rasheed Wallace every day will sharpen his skills. However, Brown says that the 19-year-old got garbage time on Friday – literally.

“He got some mop-up work in,” Brown said. “Do you have any idea how many drinks were thrown?”

The NBA will likely take a few days to review matters before coming to a decision on punishment. While nobody directly involved reported injuries, Indiana coach Rick Carlisle was hospitalized after Pistons fans overturned him and set him on fire

Bullshit! How the fuck can you say that alcohol wasn't the reason this happened? It was BEER that was thrown! :D

And I don't buy that 75% of espn.com viewers never drank too much at a sporting event. I will buy that they are likely worthless fucking drunks who don't realize they are drinking too much, however. :

Wow...just, wow.

I can't believe what I just saw. Ridiculous on all sides. Can't wait to see the fallout tomorrow. David Stern probably strangled an intern tonight and didn't even notice.

Crazy.

The best news out of this whole ordeal is that we will no longer be inundated with bullshit extrapolation about the stupid MNF/Housewives incedent!! Hurrah!!

I think ya'll are being a little too dismissive of the foul. I don't have a vendetta against Artest like some people, -I just think he's an ADHD social retard, but the foul was not simply an average foul. I wouldn't call it flagrant either, but a technical to be sure.

The game was over with. You don't need a hard foul, all you had to do was wrap his arms up. It was situationally unnecessary.

Artest's right arm just delivered a slap, but he jobbed Benny in the back of the head with his left hand/forearm pretty good. If you watch the slow-mo again, you can tell it was extra-cirricular in nature. And everyone knows that you tend to act up whenever you're hit in the head, incedental or not. Wallace was likely particularly volitile given the situation with his brothers death and the fact that Artest has a rep as a instigator.

Again, I'm not saying it was a blatant, dirty flagrant, but it was definitely a hard foul, in which case you can't split hairs over the reaction, especially if someone is hit in the head. You can never justify violence, but people are acting like Artest gave Benny a hand check and Ben grabbed a sawed-off shotgun and mowed his family down. Not the case at all.

Would let Tony Parker sleep with his wife
well, after I digested all this, my thoughts...

I'm glad Artest flipped. Rodman was my favorite player when he joined the Spurs and he brought the attitude to the team. Artest has the torch and he's running with it. Even down to the 91. Great D, great fighting skills, and doesn't care what people think.

With that said.... Spurs going 81-1 IS ALIVE!

p.s. What have they done to Steve Jax? He was such a nice kid.

Now we just need something like this to happen in football and the whole American sports fans casting their high noses down on hockey because of Bertuzzi will finally fade away.

How about this Sunday? Toronto team humiliated by Lions, voluntarily attacks citizens of Ottawa as redemption. It's plausable!
